It needs to be vulnerable to those things or else it would be broken. If it freezes your board what else are you supposed to do? If this was out of range of basic spells and charge minions like Druid of the Claw, then you're easily able to get into a situation where you're just facerolling your opponent the moment you have any board control.
I see your point, I'm just saying it is too easily removed. Being a really poor minion to play on curve, it would be better in my opinion, if it had more health.
If it is played later in combination with spells, there are enough answers to it in terms of spells, e.g. Fireball or Lava Burst, or single target removal like Hex.
But yeah, it is truly poweful in the late game in combination with cheap mana spells or Spare Parts in Wild.
People saying that this is bad and that it is no contest over Water Elemental are looking at this the completely wrong way.
Water Elemental is, stat wise, more robust, true, but in terms of reach it is really limited compared to Demented Frostcaller. Water Elemental cannot freeze anything until your following turn (unless you get Charge from a card somehow - if that ever becomes possible) so its vulnerable to removal. Failing that it's weak to taunts as well. I know that I'm stating the obvious but it seems I have to - Demented Frostcallerhas the potential to reach over taunts and can freeze on the turn it is played. I mean...what do you need really? Some sort of removal to eliminate undesirable targets or spam low cost spells to freeze everything. It doesn't attempt to freeze already frozen targets so how hard can it be?
I can see plenty of scenarios where this is a turn 6 or above minion so it is impacting the board the turn it is played. So we can assume that you have options in your hand thanks to Cabalist's Tome or whatever else you want. But here's why I think this card is so much different to Water Elemental and actually a really awesome card in comparison. It doesn't kill the stuff it can freeze. Sure...Water Elemental is robust and everything but if your only option is to run it into your target then eventually you're going to activate a deathrattle. Demented Frostcaller is for the purpose of stopping your opponent setting off their Deathrattle minions. So the comparison people are making with Flamewaker is also irrelevant because that also has the potential to just ruin your own day by setting off some of the silly deathrattle effects we're starting to see.
In a meta where N'Zoth the Corruptor, Shifting Shade, Twilight Summoner, Xaril, Poisoned Mind, Forlorn Stalker, Spawn of N'Zoth, Hogger, Doom of Elwynn (and whatever crazy shenanigans they come up with) are things, do you want to be killing stuff all the time?
F That.
The current fad on Hearthpwn to try and invalidate every low attack minion by citing Cabal Shadow Priest is really old, boring and totally stupid. Are we playing the same game? You do know Flamewaker is a card, right? I don't remember the last time someone said "Geeze...Tempo mage would be so good if only Cabal Shadow Priest didn't exist. If it wasn't played against me then maybe I could hit legend."
Are you suggesting that this is bad because one card in one matchup can take it? Oh no.
Assuming you face Priests and only Priests. The new Meta is unclear at the moment but maybe Cabal will make a comeback.
Of course it's not 100% reliable. Does that make it bad? Hell no. You seem to be arguing that you should slap this down and make no further choices - what is in my opponent's hand? Do I want to use spells now or hold them? Does he have a charge or spell that can eliminate this or shall I play it for a full spell turn next?
THESE are things Blizzard wants you to do rather than go 'oh look I have this card well I have no further thought process because this is in my hand and I'll just slap this down and slap that down and either I win or I don't'
that artwork is terrifying
Meh, if it were 3 mana, would probably see play. Not to mention it can probably freeze an already frozen target again.
Except that Blizz has confirmed that it won't try to freeze minions that are already frozen...
hmm, stats of a 3 drop, not sure randomly freezing things is worth 1 mana when spells exist that can do that on specific targets (Ice lance +Emergency Coolant which is rotating out with GvG). We'll see, but if this sees play, it will be as a 1 of tech card.
Also another question. If their board is clear and you have the frostcaller out, you frostbolt the enely hero, does the minion freeze the enemy hero or the frodst bolt? The spell happens first but does the spell freeze happen first. If the minion freeze happens second, then there is nothing left unfrozen on their side of the board so what happens then?
frost bolt would happen first and if it has no unfrozen target it would refreeze the enemy hero, although It makes no difference to refreeze
.
Maybe if it was 3 mana.
Keep in mind, coin does activate this ability.
Why would coin not active this?
Sometime people ask the... "greatest" questions. Youd be surprise.
Shame it doesn't trigger before the spell, could've been a good ice Lance activator
