I read a while ago that such cards make the game "unfun" or whatever the excuse was, but I think as the game expands and more decks surface, hand reveal cards and discards should become a thing. At least some gitaxian probe sort of thing where it cycles and you look at your opponents hand. 2 mana would be fair for that.
Tutors on the other hand may be hard to program efficiently or they're just not fair. Certainly even if there was a 5 mana tutor it would be a stupid buff to something like secret paladin that would get your challenger/boom/tirion on curve. Limiting the search to <x cost cards or a specific type might make it fair. Something like a druid class card that tutored for a beast would be a cool way to make that a more consistent and stronger deck.
Well, one way to make people discard cards in this game is by milling their hand. On the tutors, I don't see how that is a fun mechanic (nor unfun, it is just meh), and it seems to make the game even less skill-based, which is undesirable. As a side note, Mind Vision does work like that (obviously, the card that you receive is one that the opponent has). Maybe that in a playable form, like a minion with battlecry: Mind vision would be a fun addition (getting the card you see is a more fun mechanic than just seeing it).
Can you expalin what tutors are for people that dont have a mtg background(i am guessing thats where its from)?
I do agree that hand/deck reveal mechanics should be a thing at some point, with the amount of viable decks these days you really need to find out which deck your are facing asap.
Discarding stuff from your opponents deck/hand(other than milling) to me atleast seems like it could get frustrating really quickly when you are on the receiving end.
I would like to see some variations on Sense Demons. It's a balanced tutor because:
It isn't attached to a body (i.e., the same effect on a minion would be much better for tempo)
It's random--a Hearthstone staple!
It requires some forethought in deck construction
In MtG, tutors help avoid problems intrinsic to the game design like mana screw, and large decks. It's trickier to pull off combos without them. In Hearthstone, I don't see the need for full-blown "search your deck for a specific card" because games are short and there's enough draw already--but things like Sense Demons are a good fit for the reasons above. There's still a lot of ground to explore with the idea though.
well theres all ready Sense Demons and Captains Parrot and as for card destruction i feel the closest you'll get to that is milling or maybe cards like Fel Reaver
I see discard opponent's card, steal opponent's card and destroy opponent's mana crystal come up in the card creator a lot. The thing to remember is that there is very little your opponent can do about your turn, other than get a lucky secret. They have to wait until you are done, and only then do they get to respond.
With that fact in mind, any of the the aforementioned effects would almost always be ludicrously overpowered unless they activated at the start of your turn.
You lost mana crystals and you could not do jack about it (even more of a problem if you are not a druid). Oh, there goes cards form your hand and there is NO way to get them back or do anything to stop your opponent from discarding your hand. Oh that card you were going to play? Now your opponent has it.
Mill is not too effective against playing on curve/hand dump ala aggro, so it is okay.
Mind Control, Mind Control Tech, Shadow Madness, Sylvanas Windrunner, and now Entomb are the only cards that can wholesale steal from your opponent and they are just shy of being overpowered as hell, for good reason. Unless there was a mechanic to get your cards/crystals back or a mechanic that allowed for you to be more proactive and prevent the losses in the first place, these kinds of mechanics have to stay out of Hearthstone.

This is RNGstone. We will NEVER have specific tutors or discards.
Discover a random card from your deck, maybe. Discard a random opponent card, maybe.
But u will never get to choose, it will make the game too skill based.

As long as we are talking about M:tG, I wonder how long it will take for Hearthstone to start introduce
LandManaCrystal-Destruction.I can't wait to play my Armageddon and Avalanche Rider.

i don't think blizzard intentionally does not make cards cause there not "skill based"
