Check out Reddit: "Is it just me or looks the first card like the belt of Kazakus? Is it possible that we get a re-designed one and could it imply, that Highlander doesn't die out?"
I would be a little surprised if Blizz decides to keep supporting highlander but maybe they will allow highlander to occupy a niche role in the meta. Zephrys is rotating out after all and Blizz reverted albatross back to 3 mana in wild, perhaps because they are printing another highlander card this year.
I feel like they don't need to make any more highlander cards at the moment. We had a good run with them since Uldum, but I would prefer if they experimented with other deckbuilding ideas.
Wild has enough fuel for that fire, and for standard, they would need more than 1 good highlander card to make a deck worthwhile... so it seems unlikely.
They could very well return to it in the future, but I doubt they will revive it this early.
Also, is it possible that maybe they still do Kazakus 2.0 but not in a "no duplicate" sort of way? Is that allowed?
While I don't really think singleton decks survive with only one perk card, getting one into the pool now might make sense. This would allow a later set, maybe even next year, to make the archetype mostly viable again. Staggering the group of no-duplicates cards means that the archetype stays fairly dynamic, with some leaving, some entering the format every rotation.
Let's say it's Kazakus indeed : why would it NEED to be for a singleton deck ? There's already a Kazakus for singletons, and singletons are horrible decks with high reward, no deckbuilding risk, and, more importantly, tons of "highlander only cards". It would only be fair to create and / or support new archetypes and designs if a new Kazakus was coming with the idea "Kazakus is a legendary dude that must be a core card from the archetype" rather than trying again and againt o bring back the same one.
Pretty sure they officially stated they will stay away from highlander for a while, meaning one or two year cycle. Now, it makes sense that the drawing is of Kazakus, and it could be Kazakus creating another custom card for you, it does not have to be highlander though.
Reno decks are already very strong in wild. Printing more such cards would completely break the format and therefore I don't see it happening
As has been said a million times before, the game is not balanced around Wild. Wild is less than 15% of Constructed games, and there are only 4 highlander decks with over 1000 games in Wild.
And due to the small sample size the winrate fluctuates wildly, the most popular Highlander Priest deck had 65% winrate Friday and 51% winrate Thursday, so it's hard to tell if they're even good, or if they're just good against Secret Mage.

What are you talking about? The deckbuilding risk is that you give up 50% of your removal and good cards in exchange for big clutch plays.
If a highlander deck drops say Plague of Death or Hysteria, then you know they dont have another unless they generate one.
Singleton decks are good but not OP. They're basically midrange which means they beat aggro but lose to control that can generate more value than they can and can bait out their removals then smash them.
It DOES look like Kazakus’ belt, but it begs the question of why the hell would Kazakus be in the barrens which has zero ties to gadgetzan, unless it’s like a trade route link but that’s a large effort to link the two..

I was just thinking... they could be completely baiting us with this.
For all we know, this could be a picture within the card art. Like an "artwork vendor" or something, holding up a picture of Kazakus. And this is just a small part of actual card art.
They did this in previous card reveals, where the teaser image is just a tiny thing in the corner that doesn't really reveal hints about what the actual card is.

The Barrens is home to Ratchet, which is another goblin outpost in the Steamwheedle Cartel (along with Booty Bay, Everlook and yes, Gadgetzan), so it's pretty minimal to link these two lore-wise, since they're already linked.
I hope this new kazakus has something to do with dragons, since he is, you know... a dragon
Isn't Kazakus a Zandalari troll...?
Anyway, that doesn't particularly look distinctly like Kazakus's belt, but I assume the first card revealed will PROBABLY be something cool.
Well he is but the HS devs have strongly suggested in the lore that he is in fact a dragon in disguise using a troll form. They also said that in a previous iteration kazakus was called khajakus and was a 7 mana 7/7 minion with battlecry : if you have cast 10 spells this game, become Khajakus, Dragon Form"
And if you take a look at the original kazakus, it looks exactly, and I mean EXACTLY like kazakus's belt. Same round shape with the arrow shape on the bottom, same colors, same chains on the side. Even the clothes behind the belt are the same shape and color.
The artist is different but the character is 100% kazakus or someone who stole kazakus' clothes.

Actually in Wild, Highlander decks run only Reno and Zephrys on a steady basis.
Well, from top tier decks, Reno Mages also run Relicologist and Priests Raza. But nothing more.

I've never been more excited for any other card reveal.

Guess we'll see in a few hours.

Well, it was indeed kazakus. It wasn't however highlander, but seems like they're going back to the no X-cost card type
Congratz you were right.
Well, that was a fucking bummer.

you were right jajaajajjajaj
