Unfortunately yes, i have been running into a few between ranks 5 to 2 and, surprisingly, a round seven 4/4 and a tyrantus, surronded by all the other op-neutral minions is still pretty hard to beat...
It never really stopped being competitive, people just quit playing it and the meta was still adjusted to pre-spiteful nerf, but by now the meta has changed a lot. People often play what other people are playing and since it's been showing up at high legend more people are playing it now. There are a few "sleeper" decks that are good but not many people play. Kind of like how nobody plays taunt druid anymore.
It's a really good midrange deck that fits into this meta pretty nicely. Combo and even control decks have trouble dealing with all that pressure, and it's not the worst deck against aggro.
I've been playing spiteful mechdruid and it's my strongest deck right now. I added a single Starfire in case I draw both UI before turn 7. Dilutes the pool a little, but 6 drops are strong. Also playing spiteful mechmage with double pyro, double meteor
It was always competitive. The deck showed up in many high level tournaments, even after the nerfs in WitchWood and in Boomsday. I suspect it's only unpopular on ladder because people dusted their spitefuls and don't want to craft them again for just one mid tier deck
is spiteful druid becoming a thing again cause i have been seeing players having success and hitting high legend with that deck
Yes it is! I've played it a little bit this month and have a 71% winrate so far with it!
goodness. Might have to try it again this expansion

I don't think Spiteful Druid was ever not viable. It is quite good right now though, definitely tier 2 at the very least.
It was less that the deck was bad than that other Druid decks just eclipsed it.
