They’re gonna milk this game as much as possible until Artifact and Gwent 1.0 comes out aren’t they? It was bad enough that they were charging $50 to preorder loot boxes, but now there’s a second preorder option, the Mega Bundle.
For those who don’t know, the regular preorder bundle is $50, and comes with 50 cardpacks, the Mecha-Jaraxxus cardback, and a free golden legendary card.
Now the Mega Bundle on the other hand is $80! What do you get for 80? You still get the cardback and golden legendary, but instead of 50 cardpacks you get 80, as well as an alternate Warlock hero portrait: Mecha-Jaraxxus.
That’s it. That’s all you get. For $30 more dollars you get a few more glorified loot boxes and a skin. $80 for a hero portrait, and it’s one that the majority of people will want too. This is beyond ridiculous. For two years they have been offering hero portraits for free where we had to do something to get them, like play WoW, or go to a Fireside Gathering, or beat Frozen Throne. They were all great. But now, they’ve locked a skin of a very popular character behind a $80 preorder paywall, that once the expansion launches you can’t get it anymore. They also said there are no plans to rerelease Mecha-Jaraxxus, so anyone who wanted to get that skin are out of luck.
I cannot fathom how ludicrous this is. $80 and all they’re offering is a skin, a skin that is highly popular. I know why they did it too, because they know people love Jaraxxus so they made him an expensive preorder bonus.
I beg you, do not buy this Mega Bundle. Vote with your wallet. Show ActiBlizz this is too far and horribly anti-consumer.
I know someone just like you IRL. I don't like him.
I don't really see what the problem is. Either bundle is a saving vs. buying those packs at the usual prices, and optional cosmetics are optional cosmetics. People really wanting it isn't an argument. If you want it then you act like the rational human being you should be and decide whether you want to spend the money to get it, keeping in mind that you do still get a bunch of packs at a discount alongside it.
If you don't like it and feel the need to REEE over it on the internet then that's one thing, but fuck off telling me what to do with my money. I'll spend it on whatever the hell I like. I know what I'm doing, and I refuse to be made out to be a moron/sheep/whatever you wanna' call me simply because you don't like it.
He kindly says vote with your wallet, nothing more really. No one suggested how anyone should spend their money.
You seem like a person that tends to cherry-pick to make a point. That won't make you go far in life, unless your parents are already rich.
Yes, OP did suggest how to spend your money. Right here ---> "I beg you, do not buy this Mega Bundle. Vote with your wallet. Show ActiBlizz this is too far and horribly anti-consumer." He's trying to goad people, to get them not to spend their money. He's passively telling you that you are anti-consumer if you show support for this bundle by purchasing it. We've seen it time and time again.
Spend a little more time with a block of text before pretending you understand what you're reading.
couldnt care less. f2p here and my main concern is getting cards, u know the actual things in which u play the game? if u care so much about a cosmetic thing then HS is not for you. go play fortnite
I don't agree. here's my view tho. I played Magic and Yugi for years. Let's take magic. You get 4 expansion per year, and, if you wanna be a decent-pretty competitive-do something player you buy at least a box ($100) + all the cards that you'll need (and that's a lot of money)
True, true, I hear ye. I'm getting a real asset, a physical one that I can resell. Ok, true, but trust me, it's gonna cost you much more than HS.
Point is. HS is a card game and like every card game, it's expensive. A lot of fun, but expensive. Thinking about HS as a normal videogame will always make you angry.
So there's been a lot of the same comments in this thread just boggle my mind. There are people actually defending this awful bundle. So I'm gonna address every frequent comment that I've been seeing.
It's a good deal! 80 packs for $80!
First of all, it's asinine to even preorder loot boxes to begin with, but on face value, $80 for 80 packs does sound good when usually the preorders are 50 packs for $50. However, all that became null and void when the Witchwood came out. Witchwood's preorder wasn't the usual 50 packs for $50, it was 70 packs! The moment they did that bundle, a bundle a lot of people loved might I add, it makes the other preorder bundles look like shit in comparison.
Not only that, but $80 for what is ultimately a preorder for loot boxes is absurd. You know what could be done with $80? You could get a shitload of Steam games, games that are not on sale, right now, and still have money left over. You could get two $40 Nintendo Switch games. Ultimately, $80 for 80 packs is pretty crazy. 100 packs or more would've been better, or maybe include some more Golden Legendaries. Speaking of...
But you get a Golden Legendary in the Mega Bundle, which becomes any Legendary you want!
You also get one in the normal $50 preorder as well, making that part of the bundle ultimately irrelevant.
The hero portrait is ugly anyway!
Okay, what does that have to do with it? That's pretty subjective.
You're not entitled to the hero portrait anyway!
Ah yes, the classic "entitled" argument. The ultimate strawman of any shill when they can't think of any else to say.
Who cares? It's just cosmetic
Then why do Casinowatch loot boxes sell like hotcakes? Why did people make a big deal about Nemsy? Guess it's not "just cosmetic" or else people wouldn't give a shit about them. Cosmetics are fun, they let people look differently, and that's why people like them. But besides, that, is for the past two years we were getting this shit for free. When the $10 hero portraits weren't selling, Actiblizz gave them out for free instead as rewards, and people really liked that. Now we have a hero portrait that is locked behind a limited time $80 preorder paywall, so once the preorder is gone that hero portrait cannot be earned anymore. They know people really want Mecha-Jaraxxus since Jaraxxus is one of the most popular Hearthstone characters, and people want Warlock portraits, so they made him a preorder incentive. GET HIM BEFORE HE'S GONE FOREVER!
The argument ultimately is more about the fact the hero portrait is locked to the $80 preorder. I could make the argument all day that it's a waste to preorder loot boxes and how the Mega Bundle is not so Mega, but the fact of the matter is a hero portrait is locked behind a steep preorder paywall. Why is that a big deal? Because we've been getting them for free for the past two years, and if people buy this (Which most likely they will judging from the comments I'm seeing here and on Reddit) then ActiBlizz will start doing more of these "Mega Bundles." Hero portraits will become locked to preorders and we won't get them for free anymore, for these bundles will make so much money, and because people didn't stop and say "no."
I agree with you that the $80 bundle is awful, but ONLY because the majority of the emotes are repurposed parts of the Lord Jaraxxus minion. There are very few differences with the emotes between when you're the Lord and when you're the Mech. However, the extra $30 you're spending does allow for you to maintain the total amount you're saving on each individual pack. Not to mention, pity timers for Legendaries will get pinged down on the constant when the total you're opening is as high as 80-130 (you can order both bundles).
Card packs vs. Buying games through Steam or for your console
You can easily get tired of the games you purchase. With cards and card packs, you can't even play some of the decks you want to make without certain cards. The difference? Buying card packs helps you actually play the game more, and if you're going to be dedicated to this game, having more cards means you have more game. But you won't acknowledge this side of it because it doesn't work for you, just like how you haven't acknowledged any of the positives of these bundles. Positivity doesn't work when you're trying to spin something negatively.
Golden Legendary in the Mega Bundle
Yes, it's true, you get one in the MB, but you also get one if you spend $30 less. People are drawn to Mecha Jaraxxus for the same reason you are. However, you still would like to null and void Blizzardvision's attempt at giving customers a little more for spending a little more. You made a statement concerning how M-J is an alternate Hero we'd never see again. You don't know this for a fact, so stop promoting it as such.
Entitlement
You don't need Mecha Jaraxxus to play as Warlock. You are trying to argue that Blizzard's way is wrong because it's hard for you to get the alternate Hero. Blizzard has to monetize their game wherever they can. Not going to say this is the right way to do it, but you come across as entitled with a lot of this post by telling people Blizzard should do things your way and make something that they made special for the upcoming expansion more accessible. If you like this game enough that you want unnecessary additions, you support Blizzard in their effort to bring more content by spending money or getting a code from someone that has a few codes lying around, like a streamer. They don't need to make M-J more accessible just because you want them to. This is why people are calling you entitled. You are not owed an easier method of getting M-J.
The Cosmetic Argument
In your own post, you ask and answer your own question. "Then why do Casinowatch loot boxes sell like hotcakes? Cosmetics are fun, they let people look differently, and that's why people like them." They are fun, but they are NOT required for you to play. I mentioned before and I'll mention again, M-J's emotes are almost 100% repurposed emotes from the Lord Jaraxxus minion card. It's not worth it in my opinion. Again, you don't know for certain that it's exclusive to this bundle, so stop telling people it is.
I will say, it makes sense that these bundles are being rolled out, what with Activision getting involved. My friend and I had a conversation about this pairing, with Activision getting involved. Part of the reason Activision is partnered with Blizzard is because Blizzard isn't doing the best financially. When a company partners with another company, it has a lot to do with the money side of things. Partnerships only happen when one company needs hand from another in order to be pulled from the depths and avoid drowning. This is just another attempt at a COMPANY trying to make MONEY, which is what companies try to do in order to stay alive.
I expect you to cower like you have and keep away from responding to this response. Place your bets, people.
Who would've imagined. Charging a premium for a product people really want. That's how commerce works. People who can afford the flair can buy it. If you cant, I'm sorry. But I don't think you can demonize Activision-Blizzard for considering how to effectively run their business.

Goad people? Please. The OP is not telling me anything other than his opinion of what he thinks of Blizzard and their latest pricing policies. He's definitely not accusing anyone that buys the expansion of being an anti-consumerist, directly or indirectly.
Being biased is fine, we all are in one way or another but if for one moment you stopped to think and set your biased rhetoric aside, you'd realise that what the OP suggests in one thing only, and that's for people to vote with their wallet. There's nothing more unbiased and democratic than that. No one tells you how to spend your money, no one cares.
I don't mind the price all that much honestly if I were an American. My issue is that living in Canada means I have to pay 25% more, I mean I could buy a triple A game for LESS than this bundle, and that would be an entirely new experience rather than a small drop in the bucket of the over all collection in HS.
I dont see the issue here. You either like the hero and buy the mega pack or you dont. If you say things like "its behind a paywall". Like many other hero skins you mean? Or preorder cardbacks? Why is this different now? Its basically blizzard decision how we get many things, specially aesthetic ones. People that dont spend money on this wont even pay for the regular bundle anyways.
I partially agree. here's my view tho.
Again, just my 2 cents.
Not to say I disagree with you or anything, there is another comparison that is fair to consider as well. Unlike Hearthstone Magic has to print, and ship their product while Hearthstone (a fully digital game) does not, so it makes some sense that they would need to lift their prices. On top of this you get a fair bit less, not saying that you get everything you ever want from the MTG box but HS is notorious for having Packs that offer less value, while MTG almost always has at least a Rare (Rare in MTG being equal to Epic from HS).
You don't need money to play or be good at this game, just work your ass off on it. You meed money for some skins or extra esthetic content. You can't have both. I enjoy the game so I buy the totally "optional" bundle. So either pay up or just play the game without the bling bling.

I agree on something and disagree on something else. True, there's no printing and shipping, but there's programming, coding, testing, artists, maintaining the servers, patching, etc. Those are expenses we can't get to quantify. THEORETICALLY you can DESIGN a magic expansion just with a sheet of paper and all the artists. You don;t need coders, programmers, etc. But Again, it's a kinda hard topic to analyze and set in stone what production cycle is cheaper/more expensive.
I agree an packs value. you get a decent card every pack, BUT think about that in magic you need FOUR "epics" (legendaries, rares, call them whatever) of each kind. In HS it's just 2 for 30 cards decks.
My point is (and again, I partially agree with you) they're card game. Expensive as fuck, but very enjoyable if that's your game.
I saw a bit of gameplay of the skin tbh.. it's not very exiting :) and it's just a gif.. it sounds awesome but it's just MEH..
also on EU for some reason it's 50 EU and 80 EU cause dollar= EU...
tbh they bundle the 50 packs with a golden legendary which is worth about 20 packs really so basically you are getting the same value as witchwood that being said I did preorder last 3 expasions and... I can at least 2-3decks from the new expasion on release so I don't need to actually preorder this time and I also recently got around steam sale.. while for 50 packs I could really just buy like 10 games on steam sale.. like OP said..
so.. no more preorders for me. (if I am spending money on gaming I can get more entertainment per money)
You people are flipping unreal. Comparing cosmetics to AV's micro p2w is the only lapse in logic here.
In previous expansions you'd get 1 pack for 1 buck. (x50). This expansion you're getting 80 packs for 80 bucks. (I had my people run the math on this, checks out). If you're willing to pay a bit more to receive the same ratio of relevant rewards you're also awarded a small bonus. It's what happens, you know, in countless coffee shops, stores, etc.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.
So there's been a lot of the same comments in this thread just boggle my mind. There are people actually defending this awful bundle. So I'm gonna address every frequent comment that I've been seeing.

Again, goes back to what I said about the Witchwood. We got 70 packs for $50. That changes everything now that we have a different kind of bundle now, a better bundle in the expansion prior. But again, it goes back to what I said earlier: You're preordering fucking loot boxes. The so called return value is very minimal in the grand scheme of things, and we have no idea how the expansion is gonna turn out. People preordered Grand Tournament, and that expansion sucked balls, same with Witchwood since most of the cards are terrible. You're buying into something you know nothing about and supporting a terrible business practice. You need to stop it. You really do.
Card packs vs. Buying games through Steam or for your console
You can easily get tired of the games you purchase.
You have got to be fucking kidding me. You're really going to use that strawman? You can get tired of literally anything you buy, not exclusive to games. But I would think $80 for a bunch of video games would be a much better deal than $80 on loot boxes where you're not guaranteed anything good from them.
With cards and card packs, you can't even play some of the decks you want to make without certain cards. The difference? Buying card packs helps you actually play the game more, and if you're going to be dedicated to this game, having more cards means you have more game.
The chances for epics and legendaries are very small, and on average 50-80 cardpacks will get you about five or seven legendaries, IF you're lucky. But with how every expansion has two class legendaries now you need so much just to stay ahead and play the big decks due to a lot of cards now in Wild.
But you won't acknowledge this side of it because it doesn't work for you, just like how you haven't acknowledged any of the positives of these bundles. Positivity doesn't work when you're trying to spin something negatively.
Again, preordering loot boxes, which F2Ps don't even do. And again, goes back to what I said about this game being too expensive now.
Golden Legendary in the Mega Bundle
Yes, it's true, you get one in the MB, but you also get one if you spend $30 less.
Literally what I said.
People are drawn to Mecha Jaraxxus for the same reason you are. However, you still would like to null and void Blizzardvision's attempt at giving customers a little more for spending a little more.
I wouldn't call a hero portrait a reward for "spending a little more" when the original three cost $10, and again, we have been getting this shit for free. By that logic, why isn't M-J in the regular preorder? The cardback is, but not the hero itself.
You made a statement concerning how M-J is an alternate Hero we'd never see again. You don't know this for a fact, so stop promoting it as such.
Where's Khadgar then? Where's Tyrande? Both of these were limited time heroes exclusive to something. Khadgar was exclusive to purchase for iOS users for the Apps for Earth charity. People were pissed about that. Blizzard promised he would return. To this day, he has yet to return at all, only appearing as a reward for Chinese players.
Tyrande, a reward for Twitch Prime users. Very few players could actually get her, leaving the majority of Hearthstone players in the dust. She has only appeared one time, and again, for China.
Blizzard themselves even said they have no plans to make Mecha-Jaraxxus available another way. They don't bring hero portraits back, and they won't bring M-J back.
Entitlement
You don't need Mecha Jaraxxus to play as Warlock.
Neither did you need Nemsy, but people still bitched about her, and rightfully so. People want Warlock portraits. It is what it is.
You are trying to argue that Blizzard's way is wrong because it's hard for you to get the alternate Hero.
Well I am the consumer. The customer is always right.
Blizzard has to monetize their game wherever they can. Not going to say this is the right way to do it, but you come across as entitled with a lot of this post by telling people Blizzard should do things your way and make something that they made special for the upcoming expansion more accessible.
You see, I get this argument from Blizzshills all the time. They try to make these bad deals out to be a good thing, and try to silence any and all criticism. They've done it with Casinowatch's loot boxes, they've done it with Diablo 3 and what a dumpster fire that game was, and they're doing what you're doing now. You're literally proving my point right.
Again, I'm the consumer. You're the consumer. Everyone on Hearthpwn is the consumer. We're the ones who buy the product, so when we see something that isn't right, we complain about it and not buy it. When hero portraits were first announced, they were $10. The consumer thought that was outrageous to pay $10 for a gif (and rightfully so.) So all future hero portraits from then on were free, offered as rewards for doing quest like things, and people really enjoyed that. But now, we got a portrait that isn't free, and ultimately costs $80. (Before you say "but you also get cardpacks and a legendary" do you think people care? They just want Jaraxxus, plain and simple. They don't care about that other shit.)
Look at it another way: Remember Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered? ActiBlizz originally locked the CoD4 remake behind a $80 paywall as well. Had to buy the deluxe version of Infinite Warfare, a game they didn't want, just to get the game they wanted. Why should you pay $80 on something you don't want, just to get something you do want? That's why it's bullshit Jaraxxus is locked to this preorder. But moreso then that, is the fact we used to get shit like this for free!
The Cosmetic Argument
In your own post, you ask and answer your own question. "Then why do Casinowatch loot boxes sell like hotcakes? Cosmetics are fun, they let people look differently, and that's why people like them." They are fun, but they are NOT required for you to play.
And again, why do loot boxes sell so well then? OW players obsess over skins. TF2 players obsess over skins. CSGO players obsess over skins. They aren't required to play, but so many people still give a shit about them though, a big shit.
I mentioned before and I'll mention again, M-J's emotes are almost 100% repurposed emotes from the Lord Jaraxxus minion card. It's not worth it in my opinion.
I wouldn't really call these lines repurposed. They sound pretty original to me. But hey, what do I know? After all according to you, I'm entitled. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Again, you don't know for certain that it's exclusive to this bundle, so stop telling people it is.
I'm getting really fucking tired of repeating myself.
I will say, it makes sense that these bundles are being rolled out, what with Activision getting involved. My friend and I had a conversation about this pairing, with Activision getting involved. Part of the reason Activision is partnered with Blizzard is because Blizzard isn't doing the best financially.
Blizzard was doing just fine before the Activision merger. They owned WoW, made Warcraft III, and had Starcraft Brood War and were working on Starcraft II. The Activision merger completely changed how Blizzard behaved as a company, and it's why all their talent is now gone.
When a company partners with another company, it has a lot to do with the money side of things. Partnerships only happen when one company needs hand from another in order to be pulled from the depths and avoid drowning. This is just another attempt at a COMPANY trying to make MONEY, which is what companies try to do in order to stay alive.
They're making billions from this game, and Casinowatch. I think they're doing just fine. This $80 bundle just comes off as greedy, just like how there's three expansions now. Gotta milk those pack sales before Artifact and Gwent 1.0 show up.
I expect you to cower like you have and keep away from responding to this response. Place your bets, people.
Honestly, Mecha-Jaraxxus should've been the big prize for completing Puzzle Lab, like Arthas was for Frozen Throne. I don't know why they didn't do that.
This argument is never won or lost. It's just wasted. Nobody changes their mind because of the way you explained marketing. They figure it out for themselves. Sure, some people think about it more after reading your posts, but if they can afford it and they figure out that is how many packs they are going to need this round, they will buy it. The hero portrait does not mean that much. It only looks cool because you haven't seen it 2000 times yet. Wait until August once you play against it. It will become annoying just like Shudderwock, and you'll realize you could care less about it.
So it really has nothing to do with the paywall. It has more to do with you not having money. Lot's of people don't have money, that's why they don't drink Starbucks, or drive around in BMW's. The people that do, spend money when they want, and don't waste time reading posts like this. So this post should be more about the expansion and if the mechanics will be good, and what the hero card power will be.
Stop wasting peoples time with walls of text with calculations and bad analogies. And trying to 1up each other, this makes you look silly, and you lose any respect that you once had. We know the usual characters because we see you on every wall, and we see the same shenanigans. Stop feeding the Trolls and talk about the cards. Prices are too subjective, and Hearthstone is a top shelf, so it will cost money.
Man, it must suck to be poor and not have $80 to splash. I wish I could relate. Just kidding lol I love being able to look down on the poor.
The bundle is a good deal. I see nothing wrong with it and if I wasn't going to have at least 8K gold and close to 9K dust (all F2P) on release day I would do it. I don't care about cosmetic stuff, but I think 80 packs is the right amount for each expansion and that value is hard to pass up.

It’s still 1:1 on the packs offered, so same difference. Hearthstone is no different than other game with paid cosmetics.
"Everyone! Get in here!"
So in Australia 50 packs are is $66.95 which is 1.339 per pack. The mega bundle is 109.95 for 80 is 1.374
so I have worked it out. So extra 30 packs is $40.19 at 1.339 per pack price. Which makes total. $107.14
So skin cost like $2.81 in Australia, guess tax comes into the 80 pack bundle. But the op is saying the skin cost $80 is incorrect.
In Australia, we have to pay more because of the GST tax, so it cost $2.81 that is not to bad.
I get where he is coming from people would like it standalone but I think this is a better deal then like $10 for the skin.
my 2 cents here.
Again, just my 2 cents.

Woeden#1173 - NA
double post sorry

Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.
You have got to be fucking kidding me. You're really going to use that strawman? You can get tired of literally anything you buy, not exclusive to games. But I would think $80 for a bunch of video games would be a much better deal than $80 on loot boxes where you're not guaranteed anything good from them.
The chances for epics and legendaries are very small, and on average 50-80 cardpacks will get you about five or seven legendaries, IF you're lucky. But with how every expansion has two class legendaries now you need so much just to stay ahead and play the big decks due to a lot of cards now in Wild.
Again, preordering loot boxes, which F2Ps don't even do. And again, goes back to what I said about this game being too expensive now.
Literally what I said.
I wouldn't call a hero portrait a reward for "spending a little more" when the original three cost $10, and again, we have been getting this shit for free. By that logic, why isn't M-J in the regular preorder? The cardback is, but not the hero itself.
Neither did you need Nemsy, but people still bitched about her, and rightfully so. People want Warlock portraits. It is what it is.
Well I am the consumer. The customer is always right.
And again, why do loot boxes sell so well then? OW players obsess over skins. TF2 players obsess over skins. CSGO players obsess over skins. They aren't required to play, but so many people still give a shit about them though, a big shit.
I wouldn't really call these lines repurposed. They sound pretty original to me. But hey, what do I know? After all according to you, I'm entitled. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
https://twitter.com/PlayHearthstone/status/1016752055451508736
I'm getting really fucking tired of repeating myself.
Blizzard was doing just fine before the Activision merger. They owned WoW, made Warcraft III, and had Starcraft Brood War and were working on Starcraft II. The Activision merger completely changed how Blizzard behaved as a company, and it's why all their talent is now gone.
They're making billions from this game, and Casinowatch. I think they're doing just fine. This $80 bundle just comes off as greedy, just like how there's three expansions now. Gotta milk those pack sales before Artifact and Gwent 1.0 show up.
