Most people probably know this already, and Pay2Win people probably don't care about this. This thread is for more F2P players like yours truly, as a PSA to highlight a mistake that many, many people have made before. This is so that newer players won't make our mistakes.
I'll start off with my story. In Frozen Throne, I opened Hadronox from my first 10 packs. When I saw that people weren't using it, I simply dusted it and sauntered along with my 400 dust. Now, two expansions later, Hadronox + Carnivorous Cube + Witching Hour Druid is rising through the meta and wrecking (almost) all aggro decks. Now because I had dusted my previous copy of Hadronox, I am now unable to make that deck, although I have all the other cards. Same goes (and even more so) for classic legendaries; I dusted Baron Geddon, my first legendary, only to find out that Elemental Mage is really powerful in Frozen Throne, and that Baron Geddon is one of the swing cards in the deck (P.s. I am not the only person to do this my friends have all made the same mistake).
My point is, never, EVER dust cards that have potential just for 400 dust right now. In fact, even if it is a really bad legendary (like Gruul), stave off of dusting it until you need that 400 dust. And I don't mean 400 dust for 4 pretty good rares, I mean like when you're at 1200 dust and you REALLY need to craft up Genn Greymane for that one, really good deck. I'm sure this is a mistake that everyone has done, and I seriously want to bring this into attention, because had I not dusted my legendaries from previous expansion, I would have easily been able to afford my cards now (I did the maths, I could have crafted Cubelock from scratch right now). In general, you want to prioritise crafting legendaries for a deck you REALLY want. And by that, I don't mean something like Lord Godfrey for Cubelock, I mean like Sunkeeper Tarim or Edwin VanCleef.
Once again, P2W players probably don't give 2 shits about this, but I wanted more F2P players to keep off the temptation, and play it safe. This has been a PSA, I don't know how many people still care, but hey.
Also with the ‘no dupe legendary’ thing it’s unwise to dust if you plan on opening more packs from that expansion. Could open the same thing you dusted instead of a legend you wanted.
Haha OP flaming cus he cant craft taunt druid. Epic fail
Yes, because any rational person would get so pissed as to write an 800+ word article trying to help people to not make mistakes. Yes, because trying to guide people is equivalent to flaming. Also, I realise that I have been roasted by an eight-year-old with the name "hakulamatata". Even bloody Microsoft Word knows the right lingo.
I've dusted Gruul twice already, and I'll dust him 100 more times if I have to. There will never be an instance where that card is playable. Quote me on this. If Gruul ever becomes meta, I will craft a golden copy.
Very good thread and something I learned a long time ago. Basically any card that isn't Millhouse Manastorm has some chance of seeing play in the meta someday. Hell, even Millhouse saw experimentation with Call to Arms. Don't mass disenchant your legendaries and epics people. If you need dust, buy packs or clean out your wild collection.
I hear what you're saying OP, but being F2P there are just certain cards you can't and won't make work. Your example of Hadronox follows more how the standard cycle can make unplayable cards meta within the span of a few expansions. Gruul though? If you want to be F2P and effective you should know that certain legends are not worth a spot in your collection.

Gruul used to be meta actually and saw some competitive play at the beginning of Hearthstone's life as a semi counter to ragnaros because he survives a rag shot and is a 9/1 on the board afterwards if your opponent doesn't understand the mechanics.
When you're f2p, I think you need to just not regret disenchanting or crafting stuff. You should be able to look at effects and know that something should be good eventually. Hadronox has a very, very strong effect. Dusting that is very dangerous. Someone else, like... I donno, Toki, Time-tinkerer or Nat Pagle (just as examples), you should realize those will never fit into meta decks (but could I guess fit into more expensive meme decks). Hell, even Hadronox requires an expensive deck around it to truly shine and compete (probably needs the Death knight, The Lich King, among other things).
Just disenchant cards that are obviously bad at face value. Don't look at the current meta. Do your best to analyze a card in a vacuum. Also try to analyze within your budget for the game. If you used the dust from Hadronox to craft another fun deck that you had fun with, then no regrets. Move on.

Yep been there done that. I'm not F2P but I dusted Deathwing back when it fell out of the meta and I needed the dust. Then he reappeared and started popping up in a bunch of decks again!
Lesson: NEVER EVER dust a legendary unless it's moved to Wild and you have ZERO intentions of playing wild.
This is the same mentality like not throwing away anything cause "it might be useful someday" but in the meantime you are missing out on truly great things around you.
As a f2p player I just accepted that I won't be playing meme decks but I always try to craft the best decks cause winning is fun in itself after all.
If you ask me you have nothing to regret. Hydronaux druid isn't anywhere near tier 1 anyway.
Only thing I learned here is I have some wild legendaries to dust.... Foe Reaper 4000... I'm pretty sure there are more but I'd play wild murlocs again sometime... that's the only tier 5 or better deck I could make after 77 packs opened -.- unless those new druid legendaries ever become useful.....

Do you have all of the classic legendaries? If not, you are wasting dust by disenchanting him so much.
Sad story: back in the WotOG ( a month after i started playing ) i managed to get 1600 dust, i was so happy and, even if my friends told me to not dust when you start a F2P account and to not waste it on useless legendaries i crafted our lord and saviour Yogg, it brought me a lot of fun and joy... 2 packs later, i got another copy of it. Sadly, i dusted it immediately because of saltiness; little did i know, about a month later, they nerfed him, so instead of getting 1600 dust i just got 400. Since then i’ve never disenchanted cards that may have been nerfed inthe future till a rotation came out, with the only exception being Paladin, which i hate and have 0 cards for him ( not counting basic cards ).

I fell your pain mate! I amor F2P too, actually i got almost ALL decks of meta, but took me years to reach that point, HS is not F2P friendly game
Lul I pay for packs but I sure fuck don't win.
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.
I feel your pain. Definitely did the same thing early on. If you reach one person, mission accomplished.

"Obviously, people who spend money on the game have no regard for how they use their resources"
Good thing you called paying players stupid, not once, but twice, in this post. They needed it.

I don't agree with OP.

I never dust any card that has a really powerful effect no matter how bad it is at the time. That's why I kept my Hadronox and I'm glad I did :P
