My battletag is Overholt-something-something and I'm never going to grind to legend.
Whew. That's a weight off. Every season I go for rank 5. Sometimes I get there late in the month; sometimes not at all; sometimes early enough to consider pushing forward. But to this day I've never played a non-meme deck past the rank 5 floor. I've always figured I'd make the push some day, though, and the new ladder changes have had me starting to gear up for it. Every time I read the experience of a casual player who did it, though, it just sounds miserable. The thought of it gives me anxiety, which is the complete opposite of why I play games in the first place.
So I'm happy to say it's never going to happen for me, and I'm at peace with that. It hurts the collector in me (though I've actually never used a card back other than the default), but that's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Am I alone or have others made a similar decision?
I used to get to Rank 10 every season, then Rank 15, then just Rank 20. Now I just get the 5 wins, at least until Blizzard changes the ranking system again.
If I want to play Hearthstone, I'll just do it in casual. The rewards are not worth the eyerolling disgust of guaranteed netdecking on both sides every game.

Start of Year: Provoke the failure of 3 expansions, force nerfs on otherwise balanced cards, bring deckbuilding to an all-time low and get rotated one year earlier for being such a threat to the game's health. - Genn and Baku's historical entry on the White Book of Shit Design, shortly before retiring unpunished
I only ever did the grind to legend once for the card back and I can tell you I doubt i'll ever do it again, for a few reasons, 1) the rewards difference from rank 5 to legend is about 40-50 dust so what's the point going beyond rank 5. 2) there's no way i'd grind to legend in the current meta with people only playing the same 3 maybe 4 classes and them all being the same netdecks over and over again. lol
I'd rather just do dungeon runs or something and actually enjoy it for a bit until the new expansion and rotation hits and see what happens then.

Don’t worry about legend. It doesn’t mean shit, even legend players say that. It’s all about time. Time that I’d rather spend with my new son and wife. But I play, and I play quite a bit, but if I need to go I just quit and don’t worry about it. I get to rank 8-6, sometimes 5, and that’s good enough. I am a good player, but not enough for tournaments or anything. It’s a game. Have fun. Peace!
You're not missing much guys. I've climbed the mountain once, and whenever I stop playing, it's good to say I've done it, but I don't see myself having the patience to do it again. Maaaaaaaybe given the new Standard changes, but we'll see. Going Legend is great and all, but don't feel bad if you're not aiming be a consistent Top 100 player. Get it once, pat yourself on the back and play for fun.

First of all atm I'm sleepy AF, so that might - maybe - explain the weird stuff that follows ;)
Given the long tradition of alliteration in the English language
Considered that, following in that tradition, one of the most famous support groups in the world is named Alcoholics Anonymous
Duly noted that OP's post starts in perfect AA meetings style (never been to one myself, but seen plenty of scenes about them on TV, as I bet most of you did).
it's hereby proposed to christen this "Non-legend players support group", the Legend-Less League. Hooray!
As a family man and a person who likes to play many games, I do not want to take the time to grind to Legend. I am not ruling it out, but outlook not so good.
I also play The Elder Scrolls Legends. I have been enjoying that game more than HS since it came out in beta. I have not gone to Legend in that game even though it seems a much easier path. I keep thinking one of these months I will get Legend in TESL, but time...keeps on tickin', tickin', tickin'....
with the old ladder the closest i got was rank 2, this new ladder gives me hopes but right now im sitting at rank 14 and just cannot cope with the amount of bullshit the current meta decks are capable of
Everyone has different ways of enjoying a game. I don't see the point of playing a game in a way that you don't consider fun, no matter what others might say.
For me, I only play Arena or home-brew decks in Constructed. If anyone reading this enjoys playing fun decks, check out my profile.
Just takes too much time to get anywhere close to legend and no reward for doing so unless you are actually trying to enter the world tournaments.
I like ranked mode for the fact that people take the games a bit more seriously though. It's really annoying to have people give up early because they're slightly unfavored to win.... and the people auto surrendering on occasion too. That and the troll decks that people make to complete quests and nothing else (put 30 murlocs in a deck to complete murloc quest etc).
Ive climbed to legend once, I even made it to top 100 (74 to be exact), aaaaaand im never gonna do it again... I decided to climb there cuz I hit rank5 fairly early with my own deck, and playing it was just so much fun so I made it to legend during the week after...
My opinion about legend: if you dont enjoy a toptier-ish deck soooo much, than its just a boring tilting grind. It is not hard at all, i mean Hearthstone is just like gambling, 80% rng - 20% skill, it just takes a lot of time, which not everyone has tons of. So if you find yourself a really fun deck, which has 60% winrate or more (if less thats fine too, but it takes that more time), and have lots of time, and you want the cardback, than maybe its worth it...
I'd like to join this club, what's the membership fee?
it's something I'd LIKE to do but I am very, very sure that I don't have the right cocktail of skill, patience or ability to channel nerd-rage. I'm overcompensating for this by grinding golden versions of heroes and full Classic Set.

I could grind it out if I didn't have to deal with the same 4 decks over and over again.

I just have about an hour per day to play. So I'm happy with rank 10 every season.
Just open the game, do some Quest, buy packs by gold (Don't have time to play Arena).
For people with a job and family Is impossible to grind to Legend..unless not sleeping at night..

I was pleasantly surprised to hit rank 5 on the second day of the month thanks to the new format which is nice.
However, my experience from there has been decidely underwhelming after facing the following opponents:
Paladin, paladin, paladin, paladin, paladin, warlock, paladin, paladin, shaman (wtf?!), paldain, warlock, paladin, paladin’s mum, paladin, warloc, paladin’s second mum, zzzzzzzz
