I just started to save my dust to craft some legendary wild cards i just got the time hit rank 10 in standart. For me its more fun to play wild at the moment. It's annoying to face the same Decks over and over again and don't forget the "well played" emote spammer when they get the perfect mulligan.
I pulled it off once, last season. I had a ton of time to play. So, happy I did it... not sure I could bring myself to do it again anytime soon.
Once you are in rank 5-1, so much turns on your opening hand and early draws. Everyone plays well, but everyone knows what everyone else is going to do too. If you really care about your rank, it can be stressful. I am happily back in casual mode this season having been gifted rank 4.
You know, In regards with Shaman, The ones i've come across, have actually started posing a threat. Their Double Battlecry card and return a dead weapon to hand combo with Jade Claws has made some pretty juicy jade golums. Heck, i even got beaten by one.
I was curious about this deck. Have you tried piloting one?
I have almost the same story. I play about 4 games a day and generally zip up to rank 5 pretty quick. I would like to get legend, but I got 3 kids and a full time job so there is no way I was going to play enough games to make legend. Now that we have a new ladder system, I am already at rank 6, I think there is a decent shot that I will get there if not this month than soon. That feels good.
Rank 5 to legend IS a grind!! Yes i´ve done the journey a few times but now i just casually play to rank 5 for the rewards then spend rest of the time in Brawls / arena.

I really think if I shut people out on the weekends, I could do it haha. In 200+ games last season I had like a 50-55% win rate with most decks. Highest win rate was my big spells mage, but that was also my longest game average deck (so even more frustrating when I lose those games lol).
Maybe I'll craft some tier 2 aggro deck next expansion, that beats decks that counter the tier 1 aggro deck and get lucky. I'm in my busy work season right now so I can't make it yet. I'll see in the summer months.
Maybe I'm still just in the denial stage lol, and I will never actually make it.

I tried it for a bit. It’s fun but gets stomped by Warlock and Paladin (as usual).
Its a shame, because I actually find Shamans more fun to play with / against these days. I think they’ve had a bad couple of expansions and a lot of their god-tier cards have disappeared to Wild.
I piloted a cool Aggro Shaman to 10 wins in the recent Brawliseum. Reminded me of the old days! :-)
I personally enjoy the grind to Legend. That being said though I only play one game when I play games so I have the time. I have always been that way. When I decide to play a game, I play that game and only that game. I also play to "win" per say. I don't enjoy casually playing a game as I get no enjoyment from it if I do. That being said though, I understand not everyone is wired like that so I can understand why some do not want to take the time to just grind one game.

I feel like you have to get the perfect hand to actually get the fast golums on the board.. I played against one as a priest and absolutely slaughtered the guy so it crushed my dream of playing that deck.
God, Even evolve shaman feels like it was a thing years ago.... It's only been 1 exp..
Haha! I know! And the irony is that Evolve Shaman could really be triggering to play against. You have full control of the game and board then some random rng swing stealsthe game from you and there was literally no way to prevent it. Argh! I have had my fair share of hating that deck.
And yet, at least the games were interesting and more fun than cheating out big taunts and free* life gain or repeatedly flooding the board with divine shielded 1/1s over and over.
I usually go to rank 5 every month as well. The closest I ever got to legend was rank 2 in the first or second month of Un'Goro (don't remember). I luckily opened all of the key cards for taunt warrior in my pre-order and picked the deck up early before the meta settled but my progress halted by the time Quest Rogue really took off. I think if I ever get to legend, it'll be due to a similar situation of capitalizing on an unsettled meta.
I've done the climb to legend three times, but I won't be doing it again in a hurry - you have the gameplay experience nailed OP, up to rank 5 the game is fun and you get rewarded. Then just chill there till next month playing meme decks and stuff, hit up arena, tavern brawl, etc. The climb from rank 5 to legend is mind-numbingly dull, and once you get legend, you're in the legend dumpster and everyone is just doing exactly what is going on at rank 5 - memeing.
Save that legend climb for the month in the future where you break your leg and your doc tells you you have to sit for a few weeks rehabbing. Its really not worth it otherwise.
Ranked mode is what it is but as long arena mode is in decent state you can have a blast with it, and ofc I never really focused on ranked play since like everyone said its nothing but time sink of grind.

The meta went to the crapper after the expansion after ungoro, and stayed there since.
Ungoro was probably the best experience for meta playing. Because so many different decks, which made it so fun.
Then came the deathknights and the meta went downhill from there, and kobolds, did almost nothing to the meta change.

I have reached legend once, did it, got the amazing cardback, felt like I am the king of the world.
After that the game became more relaxed and fun.
Cause I felt like I earn the medal now lets play mems decks and quests and rank to what so ever.
But
If you can put your ego aside and the showing of, you can be legend in real life and it is better than hearthstone ocd legend.
