I'll begin this post by saying that, yes, I'm certain there are players who fall in between the two types of players I'm about to lay out. But within my small circle of friends I basically notice there are two types of Hearthstone Players.
Type 1 chases the strongest deck every meta. The proverbial "Flavor of The Month." They have zero allegiance class and why should they? It's a card game not an MMO. They may have a preferred class but they're not beholden to it at all.
Then there's the other type of player (and I fall into this group) that almost exclusively plays one class. In my case that class is Paladin. Why? Because it's what I play in WoW. Which, yeah, may be a stupid reason but there it is. I just love playing paladins.
The current balance situation with druids got me to thinking about this because it's especially frustrating for those of us with a strong class preference. I imagine it's also frustrating for those who simply don't want the game to grow stale.
Why type of player are you? Are you class loyal or class flexible when it comes to Hearthstone?
I play mage mostly, I like spell casting. Druid is my second favorite class though, but I haven't played it much in the last week. I didn't get any good pulls for warlock this expansion so my 3rd class has been priest/shaman.
I am a a little bit of both. I would LOVE to stick to my favorite class (mage), but I don't have the cards right now to play her at even a remotely competitive level. No DK, no Sindragosa, no Antonidas .... pretty much no viable mage deck right now. I had decent success just playing a basic control mage before Frozen hit, but I just didn't have much luck with getting any good mage cards from my packs.
So for now at least, I am just net-decking with what I have. Having an OK time with playing Evolve Shaman and Control Warlock, but both decks seem to be very dependent on card draw RNG for both me and my opponent. With both those decks, I either seem to win easily, or get crushed .... never anything in between.

I wanna glide down, over Mulholland I wanna write her, name in the sky I wanna free fall, out into nothin' Gonna leave this, world for awhile
I find the idea of liking purely a class alone a little bit odd, unless you really do just play for flavor. General archetypes seem like the most likely thing for someone to like in a specific way to me, and those are shared between classes and not every deck within the same class will have the same archetype. Like, control paladin is a lot closer to control warrior then it is to aggro paladin. I'd find it weird to hear someone say that they enjoy both types of paladin just because they are paladin.
In general I do prefer a more midrangey style of play, and my favorite hero power for this style is the paladins, which makes my most favorite specific deck overall midrange paladin, and I'll play that a lot for quests and stuff even when it's not super good. But after that other more midrange style decks I enjoy more then say, aggro paladin, or even control paladin often. But otherwise I'm somewhere in the middle of your two groups. That's my fallback, but I'll play a lot of other decks, both for power reasons and just for fun reasons.
Also between "People who want to play the best deck" and "People who want to play the same deck" I think you missed a big group, which is people that switch decks around a lot and don't have loyalty to an archtype but not because they want to play "the strongest deck" but rather because they just like playing a wide variety of decks.
Closer to 1 than 2, I suppose. But I'm right there in the middle. Paladin is by far my favorite (golden), 7 other classes all between 350/430 wins, and priest at 250 wins (been playing exclusively Raza / Kaza Priest the past week).
Paladin is my favorite. But I like playing all of the classes. I get bored of a deck type often and then switch to something else. I like finding fun decks that are tier 1 or 2 and then tweaking them to my needs. Even when I play Druid, I play a N'zoth Hydranox deathrattle Druid over jades. Haha.
I tend to play non-meta decks. When I started (TGT) I chose Paladin as my class for no apparent reason and played it almost exclusively for a long time, but never played secret paladin. Somewhere along the line I picked up priest as well, and basically just played those 2 classes. When Ungoro started, I made a murloc pally (I'm talking first week before it was all the rage) and immediately got my first and only legend. Since then, Paladin had been too good for me, so I've been playing lots of other classes instead. I don't care about legend anymore, so I just play fun decks and surprise opponents.
I play every class up until golden hero, I can't bring myself to play a hero I got 500 wins in bc it almost feels like a waste unless I have a high yielding quest to complete.
Kinda silly I guess, but I just pick from my remaining classes and make it work for the season. My favorite to play by far is rogue though
Well even though I'm not really chasing the best meta deck every month, Im not really pulled towards one class either. since most of them have a certain flavor, I like to switch and "taste" every one once in while.
luckily there are a lot of midrangy tempo-oriented decks currently, so I won't easily get bored having to play the same deck/class all the time :)

I used to be essentially Rogue, but since I reached 500 wins, I stick to Priest and Warlock (and Rogue). I just packed DK Malfurion though and I'm holding myself back not to craft Fendral, because it's FOTM and i only have 45 wins with Druid.... I'll be strong!
Priest is and always will be my home boy, my brother from another mother, my first love, and the class I enjoy the most. However, I play most classes because it's fun. At the moment I think Rogue is the only class I havent played in the KoFT expansion but I've played Priest in like 50-60 % of my games.
I like having the option to play any and all classes, but there are those I tend to enjoy playing more than others. I think the daily quest system is what drives me to try to have a deck for every class, but my card selection is so poor for some classes that the decks I can make are pure garbage.
I enjoy playing Priest, Shaman, and Mage most, and tend to have a decent card selection for those classes.
I don't like Warrior or Rogue, and my card selection for those classes is abysmal. I think I'd enjoy the hell out of miracle rogue, but don't have the cards to support it.
I always come back to rogue. It was my first gold hero. However, I'm also a bit of a completionist, so I've been trying to get other classes there too haha. My druid is at about 350 wins, the next closest one... but that was all back in the day when druid just played standard ramp decks. Haven't played em so much this expansion.

I am certainly in the second type, for reasons similar to yoursbut exactly as i used to do in wow with alts, i also shift of class in hs.
But my shifts are within a limited set of classes and Rogue is the main one i always return to, at a point.
So yeah, i am a second type. Not hortodox, but certainly i am NOT the FOTM type.

Druid (ramp, specifically) was the class I first learned to play, so it upsets me that it's turned into this degenerate bullshit

I find myself more inbetween, playing what I find the most interesting (to me), relatively competitive deck I can find. Right now that is shaman.
I"m a get-a-class-golden-then-move-on-to-another player.
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)

I like to play all the classes so I know what I might face, and I also get bored if I play the same deck constantly.

I play aggro.
All classes.
Not priest.
Well, yes Priest.
Sometimes.
Inner Fire Priest.
But only during quests. Or Adventures.
