As a big fan of Tempo Mage, I was wondering what do you guys think about this deck's consistency in Standard mode?
The archetype loses:
- Mad Scientist : Without this card, the deck loses a lot of Tempo, I think it means that no more secret will be played in Tempo Mage. But do you really think the deck can stay top tier without the famous Mirror Entity proc?
- Unstable Portal : Probably my favourite card in the deck, I know that the so-called E-Sportal is currently OP but it is so fun to play! It won me so many games, plus it is the definition of Tempo in most cases, so it is definitely another huge perk lost.
- Flamecannon : This one is often only run in one copy, but it makes the match-up against Druid or even War so much easier that I can't imagine a world without this card.
So far with WoG the only card that could fit in the deck is Mukla, Tyrant of the Vale, which is really good imo, because there is currently no 6 drop that fits in the deck.
So tell me what you think guys, and I am also pretty curious about your attempt to adapt the deck in Standard mode!
Well, I went top 622 during S23 playing it, and I struggled at rank 3, and I am now to midrange pally/demo Zoo side of the force! Congrats being top 450 btw :)
Disappearing is a bit crazy don't you think? I've heard a lot streamers sayin it was still in a good shape!
EDIT: Oh you meant top 2 legend, wp even more then
In theory, you could keep playing a few secrets using Kirin Tor Mage (Yes, it's not as good for tempo as Mad Scientist, but it might work out)
I admit, I don't really play a tempo mage so this might not work.
Esportal is a loss, but I think there will be minions that can help curve out.
Flamecannon could be partially replaced by Forbidden Flame combo'ed with some spell damage, and cabalist's tome could help (random mage spells are almost always of some use)
I'm willing to say tempo mage will find a way. If not, some new mage archetype will come up instead.
Tempo Mage will probably lose steam and won't be as popular as it is now. So far Control Mage and Casino Mage seem like they will be the top Mage decks in the future to me. I don't think freeze Mage will dominate or anything because we've got that new card to replace Kezan to keep them in check.
Tempo mage is probably gone. And that's great, rejoice! Fuckng stupid casinostone deck.
Anyway, the cards that are still good from the deck will probably have a home in more control-style deck, so Flamewaker is probably not going away. Who knows, maybe even Kirin tor Mage will see play, if the meta really slows down enough.

God, I hope not. Can't wait until Flamewaker is out of comission.
I understand that it sometimes aweful to play against Tempo Mage when they got insanely lucky with Unstable Portal or when Flamewaker hits the perfect target but it is really extremely fun to play because each game is different and it think it might be harder to play than a lot of the order aggroish decks! But that is just my opinion.
While some of you keep faith in the sustainability of the deck, most of you don't, I am sad. But yeah, if my golden Mana Wyrm and Sorcerer's Apprentice don't become totally useless crap I'm still happy.

They won't. Mage will always have uses for those strong early game minions.
It is hard to play, never said otherwise. But Portal is so god damn frustrating sometimes. Flamewaker isn't really an issue, he's strong but his RNG is fair. Portal, however, like Spellbender, has WAY too much variance. I get that some people may find this fun, but I don't. I'm okay with RNG so long as it isn't something insane.
The speed at which the deck can win is the biggest problem, paired with how oppressive the early game is. Better board clears would help.
See the classic scenario:
Tempo Mage goes second. You pass turn 1. They mana wurm. Turn 2 you play a good 2 drop, they portal into either a free minion or a card that is cheaper than it has any right to be. swing for 2 face. Turn 3 you play average 3 drop, they drop flamewaker, coin, mirror image. face or trade up. It really puts you too far behind to reasonably catch up and a 2/4 body doesn't care about being silenced. It's the sort of deck in which the luckier they get, the more they punish the right plays.
When I started playing on ladder it was with tempo mage, sans- Mirror image and Apprentice. Had Rag and Boom as my high end threats. It was relatively fair because it punished aggro but you had a slight disadvantage against control. Good burst though, if they didn't answer your threats, and it played the sort of grindy fun game that I actually enjoy (playing magic I am almost exclusively devoted to control and midrange decks.)
I believe that despite its losses tempo mage will still prove to be a viable class in the new meta. For secrets you can sub in the Kirin Tor Mage as was previously stated which although not as much of a swing as mad scientist provides is still gives you a 4/3 and a secret on the board for three mana. The other option is to forget about secrets all together and try to make a more midrange-y tempo deck with faceless summoner and archmage or ragnaros as a late game finisher. Moving on no card will be able to fulfill the role of unstable portal in tempo mage however we did receive a pretty close likeness to it in shifter zerus if that is something that appeals to you if not there is always the option to add in something like cult sorcerer which although being a C'Thun card is aggressively stated and has spell damage which a tempo deck could make use of. Lastly I feel that flamecannon which was typically a one of in tempo mage didn't hurt the deck too much and we can expect something like forgotten torch to take its place in the lineup.
Although Tempo mage loses some great cards, I think that it still has a TON of potential with the newer cards. Cult Sorcerer is a great card that has a nice body and gives you extra spell damage which is great for cards like arcane blast and missiles early game. Faceless Summoner is an amazing 6 drop which is something that the deck lacked before. Here is my attempt at a list:

tempo will never loose tempo - have faith!
-let´s negotiate: you concede and I let you live...
