Hello everybody! This topic is for discussion of our Season's Greetings Competition Competition. To make sure that everything runs smoothly, we need to reserve the Submission Topic for submissions only. Everything else goes here. What is everything else, you might ask?
Rules or Process. Do you have a question about the competition's process? Do you need clarification about one of the entry requirements? Are you not sure whether your entry adhered to the rules? Ask here!
Feedback or Ideas. Do you have some ideas you'd like to run by others before settling on one? Do you need help balancing or wording your entry? Do you need help finding art that will fit your card? Or do you just want feedback from the community on your entry? You're in the right place! Remember, although you are allowed to make minor tweaks to your entry after you've submitted it, you're only allowed one submission per week, so make sure that you've settled on your card for sure beforehand.
Discussion! Do you have thoughts on other people's entries? Are there directions you don't like that you're seeing too many people take? Or directions you'd like to see more people take? Would you like to help others and contribute to a greater community understanding of Hearthstone card design and balance? This is where you want to be!
All of that said, please refrain from the following:
Posting TONS of Ideas. This thread is going to become an absolute mess if everybody is posting a dozen different ideas. Please post not more than 3 distinct ideas at a time. Any more than that and we'll have to delete your post.
Advertising Your Entry. Please don't pop in here just to advertise your entry only to never be heard from again. This includes only asking short, generic, or insincere questions like "Thoughts?" or "Do you think this is interesting?". Yes, getting feedback on your entry is one of the purposes of this topic, but we're not just here for other people to help you. We're here for you all to help each other. 12 hours after this competition begins, there should be plenty of other posts here for you to give specific feedback or for you to comment on a trend. If you post your entryfor feedback after this time and do not also offer some form of substantial commentary, critique, or praise of others' work, you may find your post deleted.
Plagiarism. Many people post their ideas here before finalizing them in the submission topic. Directly plagiarizing those ideas to post in the submission topic yourself is absolutely not acceptable.
So, without further ado, have fun and get creating!
-Your card must generate tokens available only to Legendary minions (e.g. Dream cards of Ysera, Power Chord cards of Elite Tauren Chieftain)
-No collectible card example comes to mind, but there is this Hero Power that can be used as reference (only after you've gotten all the good artifacts):
-Sample created card:
(When you want Legendary power, but don't have enough for it.)
I hesitate between two contests: one for WoW:Legion Artifact weapons and another for Alternate Hero Powers.
WOW:LEGION ARTIFACT WEAPONS
Legion, the 7th expansion of World of Warcraft, is scheduled to be released in 2016. With it will be introduced 36 legendary Weapons unique to each class spec. Make one of these weapons into a HS card! If you don't know them, here is the complete list of all of them (details about the weapons are in the links given below) : http://wow.gamepedia.com/Artifact
Theme-specific restrictions:
Your card must be a Weapon, and one of those 36 artifact Weapons (thanks Captain Obvious!)
It must be of Legendary rarity.
It must have the colour border of the class it belongs to.
2 of those 36 weapons already exist in Hearthstone : Ashbringer and Doomhammer. You may make an alternate version of them if you want.
Apart from the two aforementioned weapons, the number of artworks representing Artifact Weapons are scarce to non-existent (many were invented from scratch). You are therefore authorised to use in-game or website screenshots of those weapons, or artworks that look like but are not those weapons (it should be minimally similar though, don't illustrate a shield with an axe!).
Your weapon can't have more than 1 (one) associated custom token. However, you are not limited if you want to associate your weapon with already-existing cards.
You may choose an Artifact from a class that doesn't exist in HS, i.e. Death Knight, Monk or Demon Hunter. Should you do so, try to stick to the general fantasy of the corresponding WoW class.
All Artifact Weapons by class (in blod: classes that aren't in HS) :
We know alternate heroes, but alternate Hero Powers remain to be seen despite being demanded by some players. New Hero Powers would add more strategy to the game and, hopefully, diversify archetypes within each class. Make one!
Theme-specific restrictions:
Your "card" must actually be a Hero Power. Thanks, Captain Obvious!
Your Hero Power must be accompanied by the Justicar Trueheart version of it.
Your Hero Power may be passive. In this case, the mana cost field must be left empty.
If you choose to make an active Hero Power, it must cost (2). No more, no less. However, you can imagine ways by which its base cost is modified.
You should imagine that Hero Powers will be associated with a deck. That is, when you build your deck, you would have to choose between Hero Powers as well. (In Arena, the Hero Power would be chosen after you chose your cards).
Fore more realism, your Hero Power must have the mention "Hero Power" (or "Passive Hero Power") in bold on top of its description in a similar way to existing Hero Powers. This will de facto restrict the complexity of your power. Keep it original but simple!
Your Hero Power must belong to one of the 9 HS classes. No Death Knights, Monks, or Demon Hunters.
Your Hero Power can't have more than 4 (four) associated custom tokens (like the Shaman Hero Power). These tokens may be either cards or other Hero Powers. The Justicar Trueheart version of your Power does not count for this restriction. You are not limited if you want to associate your Hero Power with already-existing cards.
I like Truely Outrageous the most, as i think that it doesnt limit design space the way the other two do.
Who Be Da Boss basically asks people to copy hero powers from an adventure and stick it on a legendary card. Not too creative or fun bth.
Monopoly is less restrictive but also falls into the trap that there isn't actually many legendary specific tokens, and even less that are actually interesting in this format. Ashbringer? Bananas? Gnoll? There isn't reall much to choose from.
@CheeseEatingSu... somethingsomething
People who don't play Wow (like me) have no idea what the new Artifact weapons are, or what they do. I guess i could google search it and work out which one would work, but is there even any art for them? I doubt it. So Alternate Hero Powers is my vote
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
By Jove! That's a splendid card isn't it, what? Jolly good show, old chap! *slurps tea*
Your card must alter the functionality of your Hero Power without replacing it. Once the card is removed from the board, your Hero Power goes back to normal.
Your card must be a minion or weapon.
If your card creates tokens, there can't be more than 4.
Your card can have secondary effects, only if they're related to the Hero Power (Auchenai Soulpriest involving all healing, a warrior card involving armor gain).
No new keywords allowed and your card has to respect current class-related keywords. For example: if you're gonna do a Choose One minion, it can be only druid. Same as weapons only for Rogues, Warriors, Paladins and Shamans.
@Hackergrad: Truly Outrageous seems like the most fun and least restrictive concept to work with.
Who Be Da Boss could also be interesting if you changed it to ANY WoW boss's unique spells/powers/items/whatever else. There's a lot to work with there. As it currently stands a large number of the potential cards have already been featured in the Rag vs. Nef brawl :(
@CheeseEatingsomething: Alternate Hero Powers is definitely the better choice because there's a lot more to work with. Also the fact that many of us have never heard of artifact weapons.
The main gripe I have with Alternate Hero Powers is that Passive Hero Powers tend to be really boring and stifle not only creativity but also card synergies--for one thing, you can't use Inspire with them.
@Gomelus: It sounds interesting, but you may want to ban the use of Inspire for the sake of creativity. Also "temporarily alter your Hero Power" would probably be better wording.
Another potential idea is to force neutral minions. This is really restrictive (so you may not want to do it), but necessity is the mother of invention, and if you're trying to make a card that affects all Hero Powers, there's a lot of invention to be done.

Thanks for the input, I'll consider banning Inspire. The thing with forcing neutral minions though is exactly that, it would be too forced. See that from the small pool atm, there are only 2 neutral minions that have pretty generic effects. They would end up making minions related to specific Hero Power, but neutrals, meaning they would have to be weaker overall (because they aren't class cards).
Theme: you need to create a minion that represents a tribe that is currently not recognized in Hearthstone (ex. Trolls, Ogres, Treants) and make that minion synergize in some way with the other minions of the same tribe.
Entry restrictions: 1) Your card MUST be a minion. 2) Your card MUST have an in-built synergy with other minions of its tribe. (ex. Murloc Warleader) 3) Your minion CANNOT be a member of already existing tribe (ex. murlocs, mechs, demons).
@NarizArcana The idea is quite interesting however the design space for such competition is extremely limited. Considering how many people participate in those competitions there will be a lot of duplicates.
Submissions are now closed for up-voting! Sorry I was a bit late on this. The unusual time-table for this competition even ended up tripping me up. XP Not to worry, you'll still have much longer than usual to review the submission topic and up-vote all of your favorites. =)
Be aware that, within an hour of our putting up the Poll Topic for this competition tomorrow, our Season 3 kick-off event will begin. =) Hell, we might just put them up at the same time.
I am surprised that there are so few contesters this time. The guy who proposed a new competition is definitely a genius.
I'm guessing it has to do with the timing (people on vacation, holidays) and the fact that you don't have to dseign a card, but a competition (some people may find it boring or tedious).
This is the Discussion Topic. The Submission Topic is here.

Hi, I am thinking about submitting this:
Lets help them find a family!
Theme: you need to create a minion that represents a tribe that is currently not recognized in Hearthstone (ex. Trolls, Ogres, Treants) and make that minion synergize in some way with the other minions of the same tribe.
Entry restrictions:
1) Your card MUST be a minion.

3) Your minion CANNOT be a member of already existing tribe (ex. murlocs, mechs, demons).
Pls give me some feedback.
Hey! That's mine!
Entry restrictions:
Your card must be a class card repurposed to another class
Art and name can be changed but the card has to remind of the original.
Class-specific mechanics must be changed
Example:
from this
What do you guys think?
Also Stolen Spirit should be Priest or Warlock, the steal minions stuff is priest but it feels warlocky to me
@NarizArcana
The idea is quite interesting however the design space for such competition is extremely limited. Considering how many people participate in those competitions there will be a lot of duplicates.
I though about that but every card has 8 other classes to be converted to but also a card converted to the same class can have diferent versions

ahh was going to submit my idea today, i am 100% you will like it guys and i was sure it would win :(
i will save it for when i win a competition :(
i am not a fan of tokens, but there are some good ideas you have came with guys, Good Luck.

I'm looking forward to the return of some fun card creation competition!
I really wish to see a competition around mana crystals topic: gain, lose, steal mana. Don't really have the time to develop it actually. :(
All righty then, the final poll topic is up here! Go check it out, and stay tuned for the Season 3 kick-off event.
You can find me here! Good luck everyone!
