So far we have seen 4-5 legendary cards from the new expansion and while the dredge keyword sounds awesome and will definitely be welcomed for expansions to come, I am just on the fence about the colossal minions with this set and whether is makes sense to ever run them over a Kazakusan deck?
Kaz has such a simple requirement and essentially shuffles 8-10 more win-conditions into your deck. I think Kaz has to require X dragons to be played before its battlecry to be activated because it makes these colossal minions just look…meh?
What do you think?! Early overreaction or am I onto something here?
druid have the best play with kazakusan ,but after rotation they lose a lot of cards special for ramp so i am sure the kazakusan will be a good option but not at the same level.
I wonder after the rotation how many pirates will remain in standard, because with 3 x 3 choices of pirate I have a feeling that one will have a very high chance of discovering at least 1 Mr Smite for 1-mana, which could make the Warrior Colossal an interesting alternative WinCon for slow Warrior decks
every colossal minion they've revealed so far is broken. They're all way better versions of Dr. Boom I think they'll be better or ran in the same deck. Kazakusan is busted, but at least you cant just throw him in any deck. You need to activate him. You don't need to do anything to activate colossal cards. You can just play them and theyre amazing.
Not all classes can build decks with Kazakusan unless they can build all-spell or few-dragons deck competitive enough to survive to turn 8-10....
Only Druid, Priest, and Warrior (maybe Mage) can so far, but we are not sure how the core set and post-rotation meta looks like yet to make any judgment....

Dh already has one, thats half of the classes in the game and 3 of them are super meta. Any deck that can draw their deck by t8-10 can throw it in there as an alternate win con, none of the colossal minions can do that. These are value and stat bombs which dont get the job done in HS anymore (sadly)
Yeah it hasn't been talked about by any of the streamers like Kazakusan is such a broken card that ANY new card simply will not compete with it.
The issue comes down to Druid being able to make a viable deck with ramp cards rotating out.So we have to see if druid was given any faster removal options and it still has the very strong Guff card.So as long as there is Kazak and Guff that is a very strong staple to try and make work.
As to the question about "Colossal"cards i very highly doubt it.I think i have seen all the Colossal cards and to be honest none of them impress me.Some of them will be ok versus certain deck types but they also might just be way too slow.
EVERY single meta for the longest time has seen players looking for the least interaction otk type decks builds and Colossal cards do not fit any of the typical deck building strategies.I mean geesh right now we have Druid just playing ramp to get to kazakusan and control warrior just playing removal to get to kazakusan those are some pretty lame deck builds all revolving around one broken card.
I expect we will see more of the same in this new expansion some busted broken mana cheating plays and seriously the design team has been very weak in it's ideas it is always mana cheating free plays and otk not much in the way of creativity given they have had 7 or so years to think of new ideas.
I honestly thin Kaz will become an extra win condition in certain decks and a tech card in others over being a card where you build your deck around it ... but that just me , im in for fun over winning with meta decks :P

Agree with this. The only good Colossals IMO are Rogue, DH, Paladin because they can give either Tempo values or immediate board/face threatening... the rest is either too slow or unpredictable yet (like Shaman, Warrior, Hunter)
Since Priest & Druid Colossals are pretty bad, they will not rely on their Colossals.
Dragon Priest might be back and Kasakusan can still its late-game win conditions.
Druid lost its ramping tools but Nourish is back to 5 mana, will see if Kasakusan Druid can still be a thing, maybe it will be an alternate win condition for Token/Beast Druid decks...
I don't think any deck that already runs Kazakusan would choose to run big minions like Colossals instead. The question is if there are any other decks that would want to run a Colossal, or if they are simply too slow with decks like Ping Mage and Quest Hunter still around.
There are probably a few that will, mainly midrange decks.
I believe they are more or less designed with Reno in mind. They all seem solid in a Highlander deck. The Big question is, does that work in nowadays hearthstone.
Reno does nothing against Otk, that might be his dead.
What seems more likely than Blizzard letting Colossals die on the vine owing to Kaz is that (like every other expansion for the past three years), they'll nerf the old cards that prevent the new ones from seeing play.
What's even more likely than that is decks will find multiple ways of cheating their Colossals into play - Hunter can run six cards in their deck that make Hydralodon cost 5-mana (or less), for example, and they'll have four cards that tutor it into their hand. Once the thing dies, they can Revive it for 3-mana (though it loses the Battlecry). Other classes can cheat their Colossals in similar ways - mana-cheating is the new class identity for everything.
I just saw someone playing SWITCHEROO PRIEST with only 2 minions ie. Kazkusan and onyxia i think... all other cards were discover and removal. May be it works.

Switcheroo swaps stats, so those two together doesn't make much sense. You'd probably rather play a super cheap minion with kaz, get a 0-cost 8/8 and then wait for the right time to play a very expensive 1/1. Or have a medium cheap dragon for better consistency.

What kind of Kaz decks post rotation and with new Core set do you have in mind?
Could there be successful decks that run Kaz? Sure, but not the current ones, at least not in their current form.

Good chance Breath of Dreams returns with all these dragons. And for classes like Warrior, its a better win con that 3 random pirates + Smite no?
:)

None of the colossal cards this far progress to any kind of win condition aside from Gigafin against aggro decks.

Are they a win-con? No.
I dont believe 4 1/2 dealing one damage at the end of your turn ever wins you games consistently (so simple to remove.)

Is this inherently better than Captain Galvangar?
Its just easier to run that plus BGBM and faceless will probably still be around but we shall see.

We'll see, I suppose . . .
Aye Kaza nerf is pretty obvious. Otherwise no slow tactic beside Kaza has a chance.
He is even more dangerous for slow builds then tick was, since Kaza is neutral.
