Spiteful Summoner one of the cards that I hate the most(because it's one the most unfair cards in the game) for mage? Oh hell no,my worst nightmare has become true.PD:Now with the salt apart this card is a well designed Spiteful Summoner that not depends on revealing a 10 mana spell and get 7 mana 10 mana minion with a 4/4 but it depends on how many cards you have in your hand which make her the best friend of control mage or any mage deck that holds a lot of cards on it's hand.
it's a very good minion, it's super easy to gather a really large hand in both big spell mage and odd mage, so you'll be getting 6 to 9 drops as a minimum, altohugh the main aim should be 7 drops.
When I first saw this card, I immediately thought of Spiteful Summoner. It depends on how big is your hand so it's for slow decks. It can be an option in big spell mage or possibly in hand mage with Mountain Giants
I ll just repost my comment from news here. Hmmm. Strong synergy with Aluneth. Tempo mages used to play Faceless Summoner back in time, so we might see something like Aluneth on 6 into 5/5 + random 6-7 drop on 7. Question is- can tempo mage afford stats effective card this days? Probably yes. I dont think this card will be any good for control mages tho.
Big spell mage has not enough card draw to make this good. i think this goes into a minion heavy mage with book of specters. Also is 5/5 instead of 4/4 compared to summoner which is a big deal since it doges a lot of removal. This will at least see experimenting might even be meta defining when its good enough. I realy dont like the random part thought couldnt it be a golem with 1/1 stats for each card why must this be another casino card?
a 5/5 is generally worth like 4.5 mana. meaning you want at least 3 cards in your hand before playing this, but you'll probably want an even bigger minion first. That said you have to compare this with Faceless Summoner. the 6 mana 5/5 summon a 3 cost minion that didn't see any play a year ago. So for 1 more mana the pay off has to be a LOT better... or just synergies for random minions may exist?
It' not as good as spiteful because it can't summon a ten drop but that is probably a good thing because it makes the card not busted.
I really like the card. Not sure how good it will be but i've played around with making a kind of elemental control/hand mage that this would be great in. It uses Arcane intellect instead of book of specters, most of the minions replace their slot in your hand when you play them (firefly, shimmering tempest, bonfire elemental, pyros, etc. It has arcane artificer + big spells and the ruby spellstone. The deck holds it's own very well but doesn't have a strong win condition or big threats outside of Jaina and the mountain giants and this would be perfect for that. You could easily play it on curve or after wiping the board for great value.
I don't think there is a mage deck where you would play this atm, maybe only in elemental mage. Makes not sense in Big Spell mage, you are fighting back first and foremost as big spell mage, so on turn 7 most of the time you won't even be able to play this. And Lich, Sindragosa and 9 mana legendary along with DK are much better win conditions than this, it just not spot worthy. Obviously makes no sense for tempo mage.
Faceless Summoner doesn't work, as is the 7 mana priest dragon. People are simply not seeing that this is only a 7 mana summon a weak 5 drop and another minion, probably 5-6 drop. A lot of value, but people are simply forgetting that a value-card doesn't work for cards over 6 mana.
6 mana is a line in hearthstone that cards aren't allowed to cross to be a value-card. After 6 mana you need cards that has simply an overwhelming board presence.
Lets see the cards that worked before after 6 mana:
Emperor Thaurissan: reduced the cost of your cards immedaetly, and extremely dangerous if you don't remove it. Sylvanas Windrunner: Overwhelming presence on board and threatens to steal one of your minions. You need to trade awfully bad to get rid of her. Ragnaros the Firelord: change the board instantly with his 8 damage instantly. destroys almost every minion below 9 mana and is a pretty strong minion by itself. Dr. Boom: gave you 3 minions at once, boom bots are a pretty dangerous existance. (but even here you see that this effect is no longer good enough in wild) Old Gods: powerful, overwhelming effects that affects the entire board instantly. The Lich King/Ysera: both a pretty strong minion and give you card advantage. And both effects are quite strong. Malygos/Prophet Velen: combo that threatens an OTK; so just combo-pieces that aren't supposed to survive a round. Spiteful Summoner: allowed you to cheat out a high cost card out immeadetly: but you see how fragile she was: with 7 mana cost it was simply too slow
I don't count in Giants, because of their fluent mana cost.
Even through Astromancer could be theoretically be compared to Spiteful Summoner. But with Spiteful you still always get probably a 8 or 10 drop while with this you might only get a 2-3 drop too. And this does simply not work at 7 mana cost; it might work at 6, but also only maybe: because Faceless Summoner wasn't a card too, even through it was so high rated.
Spiteful was strong enough to be good at 6 mana, but by far not strong enough at 7 mana.
For a Mage deck, I would have preferred if the summoning effect was tied to a damaging Spell instead of a Minion; more like Firelands Portal and less like Spiteful Summoner. Then I could make it fit in a Tempo or Control deck. As is, this card does not fit any common Mage archetypes.
Playable at best imo. Spiteful was good because you knew the 10 drop or 8 drop pool almost always gave a great result . Of course this card requires less building around. However, this is too random both on what you summon and due to the fact that it's not that easy to control how many cards you have in hand next to her. I feel you can do crazier stuff than this at 7 mana+.

Arena experiences:
What? Bro, this card is nothing special in arena and most of the time just a worse Faceless Summoner.
For an epic, I’m not totally sold on hand mage. I need to see more reason.
I ll just repost my comment from news here.

Big Spell Mage has a consistently heavy hand
so basically a spiteful summoner but for mage, hand mage incoming anyone? :D
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
Spiteful Summoner 2.0

meta-defining??? why some people think that a whole meta will be based in this card ... smh... its good but not meta-defining

7 and 9 drops are for the most part hot garbage, but 8 is promising. Could see play.
Unpopular opinion: Rogue is OP

This is just another Spiteful Summoner but for Mage. Based on this card and Stargazer Luna, I suspect that Blizzard wants Hand Mage to be a thing now.
Seems decent
Slightly stronger spiteful without requiring build around. that being said it's weakness is inconsistency with hand size
Nope.
