Then what should it be counted as, minion? Hero card? Weapon?? Also the point of secrets is countering them by thinking about which secret is up, if a secret has no good counter it should be hall of famed (AHEM ICE BLOCK AHEM)
It doesn't take much to think it could be simply called "The Coin" and make it a usable object (like the Magicka Ring in ESL).
Again, I'm hardly defending the argument, but still, it's silly to not realize it could literally be called anything other than a minion or spell haha.

The OP is hilarious... OK coin isn't a spell if Counterspell is nerfed to only counter certain kinds of spells and moved to HoF. Ah what don't like that? Then stop crying b/c your Mage deck is occasionally inconvenienced by the coin. Wow folks be getting petty the closer to the next expansion we get.
IMHO the coin should not be counted as a Spell so it can't counter Counter Spell or count for Yogg or Arcane Giant..etc, the Coin was meant to give a small advantage to the player that started last.
EDIT : just convert it to a mana crystal, problem solved.
Have you ever actually played Hearthstone? The benefits inherent in going first are huge, and there's evidence that they are not entirely offset by The Coin and the extra card.
The Coin absolutely needs to keep every advantage it has.

The Coin wasn't meant to give a small advantage to the player that started second. The Coin is intended to counter some of the disadvantage of going second. Would you care to elaborate this opinion ?
We haven't heard much since beta about the coin so apparently the developers are happy with the The Coin. From data going first in Arena is allot better win-rate wise not even close.

I meant to balance the game for the two players.
If you want to balance the game, you need to make the coin better, not take away a tiny advantage because you got salty that you paid 3 mana to counterspell the coin...

I hardly disagree, why fix what's not broken? Spells are effects that activate when you play the card, the coin does that, why should it not be a spell?
EDIT : just convert it to a mana crystal, problem solved.
A mana crystal this turn only and a mana crystal, are 2 very different things, you can't change mechanics that affect many many cards, just because you don't like having your card countered, hilariously enough the card itself counters other cards, pretty hypocritical
If the coin is played into counterspell, then you actually lose the benefit of that coin (1 extra mana), so I don't see a problem. Innervate is basically the same spell. Now we nerf it too to give secret mages even higher win rates? No, thanks.
Why are people focusing on counter spell ? i used it just as an example, do I have to make a list of every card / mechanic that can benefit from The Coin being a spell ?

Because that was the exact example you used. Here are some actual good reasons it shouldn't count:
In Quest Mage, it's a free tick towards the quest.
In Rogue, it's a free combo enabler.
With Gadgetzan Auctioneer, it's a free card draw in any class.
In (pre nerf) Razakus Priest, it was 0 mana 4 damage.
In Rogue, "Prep, Coin, concede" was stupid and frequent enough that I think the Coin shouldn't be a spell.
With Flamewaker, it's a free 2 damage minimum.
It's really stupid to have a 5 mana Coin after someone plays Loatheb.
Here's some good reasons it SHOULD count:
It's a cheap way to test for Counterspell and not waste one of your few high value spells.
It's a cheap way to draw a card with Gadgetzan (yes, I'm putting this in both categories)
It's a cheap way to counter that Mage secret that adds a copy of the next spell cast.
It's a cheap way to test for/counter Cat Trick.
It's a cheap way to enable a tick of Wild Pyromancer.
The player going second has a disadvantage. By making the coin not count as a spell, you are making their disadvantage bigger. Therefore, they shouldn't do it. It's that simple.

It could still do the same thing for 0 mana, but not count as a spell. Maybe it's instead just a button on your side of the board and not a card in your hand.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
People think you are salty because Counterspell and secret mage have had a rise in the meta lately to the point Counterspell has been seen as something that needs nerfed. This being the case, even casual players understand to hold the coin against mage to test for counterspell. Mage spells are expensive and popping one or even getting an idea of what one is can be is a big swing toward beating them. The other dynamic is that the current round of secret mage is seen as having one last fling before obscurity which provokes emotions on both sides. Hence a thread like this has gone 3 pages.

It should be a weapon obviously, so you can equip it and smack for 0 damage.
Exodia mage loves its coin

Another possible fix is " the next card you play cost 1 mana less"
