1- Ragnaros is THE most OP hero of all time. It's the first and only hero to ever average a placement of 3rd or better according to hsreplay stats.
2- Games are notoriously short this patch for multiple reasons. There's a problem with the overall game experience if a player is dead or close to dead on 8-9 gold. Add a damage cap, or nerf some of these heroes/cards. Make it so you dont have to be matched up against the top person again who just crushed you 2 turns ago? Meta is SUPER FAST. What's the point of even trying any late game builds this patch?
3- The new ranking system basically encourages people to concede since there's no drawback for losing rank. So, there are usually 1-2 people that quit after the first few turns of the game. So, this has a domino effect. Certain opponents lose no life and can tier up faster than other opponents because there is no drawback because they're against the ghost. Whoever gets to 5 first and finds Lil Rag/Nomi enjoys a top 4. Whoever gets to 5 first and finds an Amalgadon off their triple enjoys a top 4. Zzzzzz loving the new "concede" meta.
4 - Mega Windfury is ruining the game. Waaaay too often is a game decided by a huge divine shield windfury Crackling Cyclone that attacks first and kills 4 of your minions before you even have a chance to do anything. This leads to taking MASSIVE damage in one turn. Not a cool experience, blizzard devs. You should be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this to go through playtesting. You're turning the game into "whoever attacks first wins". Lame.
5 - Elementals are OP in general. The fact that in a lobby you can have 3-4 players ALL going for Elementals and yet still the vast majority of the time all of those players top 4 is a major issue. The tier 5 "elemental" package is insane and so easy to abuse it's ridiculous. Nerfs need to happen.
6 - I cannot believe that some of these cards and heroes actually made it through testing and were released into the game. Devs either did it intentionally to spike interest in the game. Or they're just braindead window lickers. Either way from a gaming experience standpoint its unacceptable. Are they trying to destroy the game of Hearthstone or are they really this stupid?
Well, in a lobby with ragnaros and jandice, the rest of the heroes are just placeholders and the winner, between the two, is determined by how soon jandice finds a pogo hopper to start rolling. It's a joke tbh, even if I get to play as rag or jandice, it's no fun tbh, since it feels like cheating.
The only good thing I see, while playing with ragnaros, is that after I get sulfuras, I can go afk with very high chances of winning if jandice isn't around #sarcasm off
I've said this in a few places, this is the least fun the mode has ever been.
Generally, I'm a very understanding and reasonable person when it comes to things like balance, etc. But this recent expac is so horrifically unbalanced.
Rag is obviously fucked and needs an immediate nerf. Jandice still needs a nerf, or pogos need to be removed. Why the fuck do elementals have 3 win conditions, and the 2 best ones are TT5?
Meanwhile, Demons still do nothing.
Here are the available competitive comps: - Ragnaros: whatever the fuck he wants - Jandice: 2x Pogos + whatever the fuck she wants - Elemental - Poison divine shields
That's it. Nothing else will win a lobby because nothing else has time before Elementals push it out.
There are 10+ heroes that are basically unplayable trash. The gap between the top tier heroes and the bottom tier ones has never been wider.
I noticed multiple times that games last longer for the average player-base. Before you had 4 people dead at turn 9 or 10. Now it's around 1 or 2. It escalates from there pretty quickly, but in my experience it slowed down a bit. Due to rank reset I have a mad win streak tho, so maybe I don't notice it as much.
Tho, I'm still all for the idea that the BG-Team at Blizzard is looking into, that all minions will always deal 1 damage and they reduce the hero health in return.
Jandice is just silly broken. People talk about her with Pogos, but she doesn't need pogos to be dominant. You just see mainly pogos because it's the obvious easy-mode of her, but give her elementals and it's just as bad; there are so many elementals that are amazing if you can guarantee having them in the lobby every turn, which she's able to do. Get a Gar or Lil'Rag and cycle the 5-drop that gives you a free elemental when it's played. Lather-rinse-repeat and walk to victory. She's just crazy in this meta.
Rag is strong, but I think he can be fixed by slowing him down a little. Change the threshold on his hero power to 25 instead of 20 and you just bought another 1 - 2 rounds before his power kicks in. Much like Bigglesworth, if he takes too much damage before coming online, he's in trouble.
I’ll take the bait. I think it’s pretty fun. I like the elementals. They are very strong, not guaranteed win, but very strong. Rag is the strongest of them while chenvaala is a close second. If you don’t get nomi or lil rag, you’re dead. If you force elementals from the beginning (like you should do with chenvaala) and don’t find a party elemental and molten rock quickly, you will have so little life and such a poor board state that by the time you find lil rag and nomi, you die before it comes online. Another benefit (if you can call it that) of everyone building elemental parties is that if you play any other comp, you will probably find your key pieces because there is less competition for comps. Although, it doesn’t mean much to get a gold ripsnarl captain anymore.
Big Dragons can beat them. Mega windfury mega dies to a taunted Nadina and big dragons. One weakness that is being overlooked is that during the battle, elementals have at least 2-3 weak minions to facilitate the big elementals. Poison murlocs with a divine shield amalgadon can also destroy elementals.
I agree with everyone that rag/elementals are S tier, but I think it’s somewhat fun to find ways to counter them. It’s also worth remembering that battlegrounds has had this problem many times before, demons were OP, beasts were OP, divine shield taunt poisonous murlocs were really OP. Rebalancing will happen soon and nomi/rag will get bumped to tier 6 and this too shall pass.
Maybe its because I have not yet figured out the meta, but I fell it seems to have shifted more towards luck. You can't really ignore Elementals and you have to luck out to get the right ones quickly enough to propel you to finish well.
I am also miffed that I have not had a chance to play the mythical Ragnaros as of yet.
I've said this in a few places, this is the least fun the mode has ever been.

Seems like 'lil Rag and Nomi could use the Mama Bear/Goldrinn treatment. Swap around the tiers. Garr and Djinni at 5 but weaker. Rag and Nomi at 6 like Kalecgos. Maybe even swap Executus with a tavern 3 elemental, since Executus is just kinda trash.
It’s always been luck. Maybe a bit more now than before, but BG has always been about rolling the right minions for your comp and attacking the right enemy minions. How many times have you been on the losing end of a battle that could have gone either way? You are right though, if you are lucky enough to get a rag or nomi, it counts for more than someone building out an attack sequence for Mechs. I think this is best evidenced by Reno Jackson having an increased win rate. Roll a nomi or lil rag off a T4 triple and make it gold, then enjoy your first place.
Received my 1st perfect game yesterday as the hero who gives you 2 gold when you upgrade. Played poisonous, goldgrubber and some elementals. 3 triples, 13 straight rounds... went from 1800 to 2100 rating. I like these changes.
I think it's MOSTLY fine if all they did was change how damage works. That's really the only issue, to be honest. The new 1/1 spore gives a LOT of interesting counter-play to huge stats.
Jandice is a problem in games with Mechs. She can high roll with Murlocs, too ... but so can Furgle and Brann. Ragnaros is pretty broken. +8/8 stats every turn means you can tier up FAST. I had a 100/100 crackling windfury buddy (with mega from other buddy) the first time I played rag. Probably just up the minions killed to balance it. Would make it more like kitty. Great later game benefit but NO benefit early so you have to survive to get benefit.
Getting hit for 20+ in early rounds is the only thing that makes me want to uninstall. So I would vote for buffing more heroes and lowering damage per turn.
The main issue I keep seeing is how huge those damage spikes can get. You can be a bit unlucky and then take like 10 extra damage, sometimes your dead before turn 8 by which you didn't even play the game. And now it seems even less likely that your able to keep up with the highrollers, especially if they rolled Ragnaros or Jandice. I was dissapointed that they didn't even nerf Jandice while she was an obvious problem.
Also demons are still too weak. They used to be my favorite tribe, but now its just way to hard to pull off a decent demon build and then try to keep up with those who have superior tribes.
Seems fine. I really sucked at first and it did seem luck related, now it seems better. Same cry goes out every patch. people who were once comfortable with the current meta suddenly can't hack it and they think it's luck based and trash etc.
I find this meta better than to switch to divine shield, poison murlocs in one turn. But some tribes are lacking e.g. dragons because elementals grow way faster than any other tribe.
Lol, BG's were bad for this game from the start. But I digress.
I agree games are too short and the rank floors are bad in lobbies.
That said no one goes murlocs anymore which makes them very effective in any lobby they're in. And the easy poison wrecks all the big boards from elementals, DR DS Mech is way more of an issue at that point.
The game feels like if you get decent elementals you steamroll everyone, you don't even need nuts elemental to build most common stuff. There is always at least 2 guys in top 4 with elementals and the winner is usually the one that is able to get Nomi (or Golden Nomi) the fastest. Pirates and dragon can beat elementals but you need to highroll with them. With pirates you need early Goldgrubbers so they grow massively and with pirates I was able to beat a pretty beefy elemental board but only with a pretty early kalecgos and then got a Nadina in the last 2 turns which helped me actually beat the insane elementals back to back and win. Murlocs can also beat elementals but is just a harder highroll, you need early brann and then buff them a bunch of times, so you prolly need longer games and a lot of poisonous murlocs. Poisonous divine shield amalgam can help a lot.

The taunt minion that gains health needs a nerf. An early Garr is pretty hard to overcome. Otherwise, too early to tell about the others

To me, this patch is where battlegrounds jumps the shark.
For main mode, it was when quests were introduced (Caverns Below meta).
It seems almost inevitable with the constant power creep. At some point, the game pivots from skill to high roll and becomes just gimmicks

They made a 1/1 Tribeless Poisonous minion just for a minion like this. Use that
