What's the game plan with pirates exactly? They feel like they suck in the early game, mid game and, unless you get several of the "buffed when it attacks"-pirates, lategame as well.
They are good (my favourite tribe) but you need Salty Looter and / or Goldgrubber pretty early. Without them it's rather hard to get enough stats and compete with other builds. And of course they can't beat murlocs with poison and divine shield.

Of course pirates will suck if you don't get the good pirates like Ripsnarl Captain or stacked Salty Looter or Goldgrubber. Every build sucks unless you get the good cards for it.
To me, seems like the thing Pirates do best is farm tokens and weak early minions with something like Ripsnarl (or Dread Admiral Eliza or maybe Seabreaker Goliath but those are much later cards). Since you keep growing within the match, it can be hard for the minions to die, and you'll smack an opponent for a huge amount of midgame damage. They can be lethal to someone who's just leveling on their early stuff hoping to get a build later. They aren't very strong late-game, but doing lots of damage in the midgame can prevent a late-game from happening.
Pirates are really just there for someone to get lucky and eliminate the players going murlocs in the mid-game. You ain't gonna win but you can ruin someone else's day!
Only tribe without any kind of secondary effect like divine shield/cleave. Entire game you're just hoping enemy doesn't hit your buffer or you're dead.

They're fine - in the very late game, they don't scale as well as Dragons or Murlocs. But they can get you a T4.
They remind me a lot of Demons in that way.
