I was reading a particularly salty thread earlier and it came to mind that Hearthstone would be a million times more fun with custom game modes. We need game modes like wild or standard that let the player create custom card restrictions and rules: no jade idol, no legendaries, 15 second turns, etc. There could be new player modes (1 legend per deck, 3 epics, only base game and most recent set), anti aggro or anti control modes (by just banning related cards). Make the options for customization, participation or creation of the custom game mode based on time played, packs opened, percent of collection completed, etc. That way people can only play new player mode for so long, newbies don't be some fodder for experienced players, and blizzard still gets pack money.
Provide an in-game link to a heavily moderated blizz forum where people can post their created modes with a search code to join or add it to a list or something.
I don't think this would work for a random queue, but I can see this being useful for friend matches. Sure, you can self-impose restrictions, but being able to restrict what sets RNG cards could pull from, or what board you'd want to play on, or even custom totals, would be really cool.

Working on updating my deck gallery and making it public. Some decks are not current. Net deck at your own risk.
Probably because the idea is terrible and incredibly complicated. You would also water down the player pool in the other game modes and the queue times for the customized games would be LONG.
I'm all for a new game mode, but customized game modes the way you've suggested is just silly.
The most needed mod at the moment is Tournament Mode, something similar to the auto-tournaments of SC2 where you can simply sign in and play. It should be adjusted so that you can play in a limited time (like a week), so everyone can play at his own pace. If not that they should really speed up the Ladders rework because it's so old and grindy while the reward are just underwhealming.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
i think these kind of alternatives are a great idea. i think theres room for many dfferent ideas. id like to see tournaments as well.too bad alot of the posts responding sofar arent in favor of other ideas.
Not everyone has alot of cards in their collection (i dont have ANY epic cards currently) and i would love an all basic/common game or 1 legendary per deck. Would give me a fighting chance instead of losing over and over.
The difference is that OW is a 6v6 team game, whereas Hearthstone is a 1v1 card game. Custom game types to get queued into would be too taxing and nigh impossible, unless Blizzard chose the types themselves. However, the idea is feasible for private games. It's just that in the grand scheme of things, Team 5 is going to prioritize changes for their randomized format pools over options for private games.

That's a good point. Maybe a dedicated new player queue with an account life based entry limit and the deck rules the person above mentioned. Thats only one additional queue and server set. What do you think of an additional custom queue with a rotating set of banned cards, voted on by the community once or twice a month using a client based vote system? That would be easier to implement and would allow the majority with a concern to be catered to while also prohibiting poll manipulation in some sense. Hearthstone has been out for years now, I don't think tavern brawl or wild are really enough to keep it fresh beyond new cards, you know?

Blizzard is not a small company with few resources and on top of that HS is one of the most profitable games for them. 4 years after the release there have been such small changes and updated mods (Wild and Standard, Arena, Tavern Brawl), slower "fix" to meta issues but plenty of time to make 3 expansion sets per year in order to milk more and more money (it's ok with that because making money is Blizzard's ultimate goal afterall, but they shouldn't just work for that but also to keep the game fresh and interesting for the player base itself).
It's been nearly a year from the first time Team 5 announced a rework for both Ladders but we still don't have any kind of info about that, not even a small glimpse of what it will be. People keep playing and waiting but if it'll take too long, more and more players will simply move on some other games (and now there are lots of other option for online card games).

Theres already a custom mode, is called "play with friends" or monunt a "fireside gathering" with a virtual and only allow preordained people in it. The tools are made just use them
I think you're underestimating it a little. For the very fact that many players like creating a playing really customized wacky decks for fun should say something about the potential for players playing customizable wacky games. If there were different rewards for it too that would bring in even more players to such a game mode.
People saiyng noone would play it or that its overcomplicated are plain retarded and should be hired in Ben Brode team immediately.
The problem is, however, Blizzard too lazy (or just dont give a fuck) to do this. Even though the possibilities are endless, they will stick to their "bullshit meta standart" and "crazy-shit/eboladin wild" formats. Also - ppl will invest less money if they could suddenly play other formats where you don't need to waste tons of money to get all cards for top tier decks, which is a big NO-NO. Salt Money shall always flow.
Its like League of Legends where you play only 2 maps (Yes, I know there is also Twisted treeline and Dominion, but God, they suck balls) for like 4 years.
I love how several users are so pumped about the idea of a custom game mode queue that they fail to think about the logistics, but when that issue is pointed out to them, they call you stupid.
What they envision: "Oh, look at all these cool game types I can play! I will never get bored!"
What will happen: "Ugh...What even are these? Oh, that looks good. And it's gone. Well, how about...gone. Hmm, well I could play that...Gone, again?! Seriously?!"

Way too dismissive and off-point to the original post. You really think those are "made tools" for this?

Why hasn't this been done already?
Overcomplicated.
HS is heavily built around a plug&play design.
Searching for a custom mode on the internet is too much for such a game.
Most players would ignore it completely, so that it's not worth the developers' time.
