Priest has always been my favorite class and I'm trying to get it too 500 wins now (probably wasted a lot in casual mode in the past), however, I'm running into some real issues in this post-WoG meta. First is obviously losing Lightbomb, Deathlord, and Zombie Chow. But what has actually been the most frustrating for me is the high prevalence of 4-attack minions nowadays.
Obviously this has always been a weak spot for priest but I feel like a lot of the really strong minions (especially in Druid) have 4-attack and I'm having a real hard time dealing with them at all since we lost Shrinkmeister. I really enjoyed playing things like Shadowform and Reno Jackson in the past and had a very high win-rate (79%, according to Hearthstone Deck Tracker), but now it seems like it's way too passive and not enough tempo-driven.
One last little note: I do enjoy playing decks with C'Thun and N'Zoth, the Corruptor, and have had some success with them, but I'd really prefer to be able to fill out at least 9 deck slots (and not have to include one of these aforementioned cards) with viable Priest decks as I have in the past.
So I want to know what your opinions are. Are you guys having success with a more controlling Priest? Any success with a Shadowform deck? Should I just stick to Wild?
There's still Entomb, which deals with every problematioc minion, does not matter it's attack.
Yes, but it also seems like there's a lot of different minions to Entomb. Not to mention that using Entomb on an Klaxxi Amber-Weaver feels pretty bad, especially when the Druid drops another one the following turn.
I tried a bunch of different things when WOG first dropped and just completely tanked my rank trying to figure out what the new Priest deck is going to be. I still haven't quote gotten it yet but I feel like I'm close. It's not going to be like it used to which sucks cause you get used to playing one way then you have to retrain yourself to play a new way but them's the breaks I guess. If you start a support group for priests let me know. I'll be there.
When dealing with cards such as Klaxxi Amber-Weaver I just play taunts and heal what I can until I can efficiently remove them with AoE or "Healing into damage combos". The new 6/5 that heals for 10 takes a lot out of the klaxxi HP and still lives at 1, so in theory she can trade 1 for 1, worst case you wasted 6 heal of the 6/5 and had to circle it. Normally 4 attack minions are slow and as priest you can take that kind of damage.
wow i rly don't do a lot of deklists here..so u just gave me a 20min job:-P but i'll do it gladly for a fellow shadowform player (minorities sticking together and such:-P):
first of is n'zoth death priest (wild)
*snip*
and this is my cthun/reno/shadow priest (standard)
*snip*
i'll wait a bit be4 sharing the nzoth reno variant, it's a bit tricky and i cannot get it to work that much. all i wanna add: if u somehow find place for hogger, doom of elwyn i'd also add it, cuz it rly does wonders against c'thun...i ran it be4 but ended up switching him for the black knight.
ok so today i went to rank 10 (from 17) in...aaand back to 14 cuz i ha a mage quest:-) so i'll be working on it, but it seems to work especially good vs cthun nd nzoth decks...have fun
*snip*
Much appreciated for the suggestions! I'll definitely test these out tonight.
EDIT: Oh, I'd like to ask how important you'd say Big Game Hunter has been for you in these decks? I disenchanted all of mine when the nerf hit and haven't gotten any new copies yet, but have the dust to craft a new one.
I've been trying to play fast with priest to hold the tempo until you can move into the mid/late game and outvalue your opponent so I've been trying heavy draw and a bit of healing to make up the extra for more aggresive decks.
I like to do something similar and have been trying to make a shadow form priest deck - let me know if you think of any decent suggestions or changes
I do love the idea of using Confuse and Embrace the Shadow, it seems like a 3-card combo to remove a 4-attack minion is a little inefficient, but I suppose saving it for a Twin Emperor Vek'lor play it might actually do pretty well. I'll have to do some testing here! I'll take any chance I can to run Confuse.
Doomsayer is actually good for this purpose. Other alternatives are trading with Priest-typical mid-game minions like Darkshire Alchemist, Auchenai or a teched-in Twilight Drake. And if you are really feeling it, then go for a Confuse/Inner Fire play...

I'd use Inner Fire in your deck. One or two. Change the attack value to use cards in conjunction. Not the best suggestion, but it's one that works.
Come visit my Card Emporium. Strange things, you will find inside...
Come take the test, if you're daring. Feel free to show me your results in a message.

Dealing with Brann Bronzebeard + Twin Emperor Vek'lor is the worst thing ever.
How about Confuse + Embrace the Shadow + Circle of Healing
You could consider running a Bloodmage Thalnos for the +1 to spellpower. Pairs nicely with Nova and Ex Evil, not to mention the card draw!
You stop playing freaking priest and try another class? ;)
