I've got a janky CH that works surprisingly well. Had to switch to Reno because not quite enough heals otherwise; this sucks because the boardwipes (sheep/PD and ghoul/arrow) are too unreliable as singletons. Looking for adjustment suggestions, please.
Slate is hilariously good. Rapid fire is a surprising early game MVP, in part because it solo does one stage of the Q (and the first two are the primary that you care about - don't care about the refresh). Lock and load is... okay, surprisingly. DK has antisynergy, but sometimes you need that value.
Sylvanus WIndrunner - a bit of a legacy from the old variant with PDs and the like. Slow without a trigger, but unsure of replacements.
Sneed's Old Shredder - it's sticky topend, but.. not that great. Best option, I think, for topend, though. (Dred? Slam? Not great options either, though Dred is fun).
Piercing Shot - it's a fireball that doesn't hit face. I think of it more as an aggressive card, but should make the list, I think.
Maybe -pouch, -plan, +barkstripper, +piercing? Any thoughts?
ETA - Vereesa not enough spells left by end, generally. Maybe Call? Zul'jin seems possible suicide with targetted spells. Rat king feels like it wouldn't revive enough. Mabye kodobane for draw in place of Sylv?
Hello. There are several ways to build a competitive reno hunter deck in the current meta. First things first, Dragonbane is an essential card for a quest hunter, that allows you to end the game quickly once you completed your quest. (Literally Spawn of Shadows , but for hunter). Explosive Trap is always a nice card to have in your deck especially in the current agro meta. I personally use Serpentbloom in nearly all of my reno hunter decks to combo it with Dreadscale , however, since you have Professor Slate i don't think you will need that. You can consider running Barak Kodobane for additional card draw and cards like Aimed Shot and Powershot for a faster quest progression and board control.
I would personally get rid of deathrattle cards and substitute them with endgame threats like Dinotamer Brann and Wild Bloodstinger. Also, don't underestimate Selective Breeder , it's a great and flexible card which is being used in most of reno hunterdecks rn. Finally, cards like Questing Explorer & Licensed Adventurer will be a great addition to the quest archetype.
Here are some examples of different reno hunter decks (quest and non quest versions)
Reno hunter with some deathrattle synergy( not updated): AAEBAR8ergaAB7kN9w36Ds4UwxaFF9/EApzNAtPNAt/SAobTAuHjAsPqAqCAA/KWA/yjA5+lA6alA/yvA/2wA4O5A/+6A+HOA/LhA/zoA+rpA+XvA6mfBAAA
Every time I've tried Explosive Trap over the years it's so horribly telegraphed that the opp just buffs and laughs at it, or doesn't proc it for a turn and simply buffs a turn or two after. It seems bad to me, when played against a decent opp.
Dinotamer Brann doesn't feel like a particularly effective topend, if I'm honest. It's a slightly cheaper Krush, which in a control matchup just dies after hitting face once. Yay? I really don't see the appeal. I like my topend to do something more than just die after hitting once.
Dragonbane.... doesn't feel like it would do much. It's not uncommon for me to just not actually finish the quest and play topend instead. For controlling the board, Dragonbane is relatively weak, due to being random, so got to be viewed as topend, but don't have that many spells left after completion. Feels like it would work a lot better as closing burst for a midrange - similar to where I feel Brann/Krush fit.
Explorer's a solid suggestion, honestly, will slip one of those in, thanks. Might be worth trying the new 3-drop discover one too.
Selective Breeder... really doesn't work in anything like my deck. You need some big topend or tech beasts, and there's Krush as topend, the scorpid as hand disruption, barkstripper, and Dreadscale. A lot of beasts feel very underwhelming for control, just appearing and dieing without additional value.
Aimed shot and powershot - in fact all the three drop spells - feel underpowered compared to 2-drop spells. Just compare powershot to Bola or even grievious bite. Feel like I should have either Aimed or Deadly in if I'm running Barak, though; probably just one aimed.

Weak cards:
Resizing Pouch - too high variance.
Secret Plan - again, variance.
Shaw isn't as good in this variant, maybe an option as well.
Ideas:
Devouring Swarm - I think this is too cuty, requiring minions.
Dreadscale - One of my favourite cards ever. Doesn't quite fit current meta.
Hunter's Mark - might be better than some current, but doesn't do much alone.
Explosive Trap - Hideously telegraphed.
Deadly Shot - often misses.
Krolus barkstripper - probably a better deadly.
Piercing Shot - it's a fireball that doesn't hit face. I think of it more as an aggressive card, but should make the list, I think.
Maybe -pouch, -plan, +barkstripper, +piercing? Any thoughts?
