Finally got to playing some Zoo this season and it is definitely still strong. I updated the list to what I'm playing right now. The deck has definitely gotten a lot quicker and more aggressive but board control is still the key.
Few general things:
-When you're not on the coin you need to mulligan hard for a 1 drop always. Sometimes you can make an exception against slower decks but you need to have board presence asap.
-When you are on the coin you can be greedier with your mulligan. Depending on the matchup you want to keep things like Knife Juggler or Dire Wolf Alpha. Imp Gang Boss is almost always good to keep with the coin and if you know your enemy is control heavy like Freeze Mage or something that will run Doomsayer, Crazed Alchemist can be very good to keep. With the nerf of Ironbeak Owl, Crazed Alchemist fills a similar role and actually finds value against Bloodhoof Brave and other low attack, high health taunts.
- While you may be able to SMOrc people down, board control is always more important than getting in face damage. With Leeroy Jenkins, 2xPower Overwhleming, and 2xSoulfire in your deck you will almost never run out of damage unless you lose your board. There's some exception to this obviously if you have lethal, but other than that board presence is top priority. I have won zoo mirror matchups with only 1hp because my opponent decided to SMOrc instead of trade and allowed me to regain the board:
-The meta is constantly changing and it is important to remember that means your deck should be changing with it. Some tech cards might be good today but not worth running tomorrow.
If you have any questions I do my best to respond in the comments. Zoo is much different than it was before standard but it is still very viable and a lot of fun. Good luck grinding! (:
Typical Hand:
im stuck rank 15, lol
can i replace imp gang , with imp master ?? cuz some people said that imp gang is essential card for this kinda deck, thx
I am relatively new and f2p, but I have Leeroy Jenkins. How would I replace:
- Sea Giant
- Dark Peddler
- Imp Gang Boss
- Crazed Alchemist (out of dust)
- Gormok the Impaler
Can i replace Gormaok and if I can what should be the replacment?
The classic replacement is Dark Iron Dwarf.
Thanks for the upvote :) I used to play a more classic midrange zoo but once standard came out I felt the aggressive burst zoo was much stronger. This deck is fairly outdated because I've mostly stopped playing hearthstone but I would often run with only 1 soulfire depending on how aggressive/greedy I wanted to be at the time. I will say tho I almost never regret drawing both soulfires over not drawing one at all, which is why ultimately when I last updated this list I included 2 copies. That being said mortal coil is never a bad tech choice and can be a big swing card in the mirror and against shaman. Any other zoo type minion you want to add is also a good replacement, whether it is a 1 or 2 drop or even a second giant.
So there is nothing wrong with running only 1 soulfire, it just depends on how aggressive you want to be.
Would reliquary seeker work in this deck?
I would not recommend it. It is far too situational to consistently get value.
1) Why no brann bronzebeard in this deck?
2) Why only one copy of Sea Giant
This particular build is all about burst/quick damage with soulfire/po/leeroy, so while you have to establish a board you don't necessarily need to develop big minions like Sea Giant, although it is nice to have one. As for brann I just feel he's too slow for this particular lineup. He is a pretty weak standalone minion especially when played on turn 3 because most decks will remove him before you get any value, which means you only want to play him turns 5+ which is when you should be looking for lethal.
I'm still not convinced about Soulfire, please explain this choice.
Also, what can I replace for Gormok the Impaler? I'm not willing yet to overcommit on crafting such a situational legendary.
Anyway I'd replace Argent Squire to Brann. Because this deck has enough one drops and whenever u play Brann your opponent fears and wastes useful removals like fireball.
Like the other guy said dark iron dwarf is what I would run in place of gormak, gormak is not an essential card to this deck.
Soulfire is just extremely powerful in almost any situation. If you draw it early it is very easy to drop your hand and play it for no discard and it allows you to clear your opponents board while maintaining your own. When you draw it later in the game it is a very good finisher/burst when your opponent is low. It is possible to run just 1 soulfire if you want a less greedy/aggressive build but I almost never regret having soulfire in my hand so it is nice to have 2 of them.
I understand your line of thinking with Brann and I'm not saying you're wrong to play him but I like to play very tempo driven with this deck and while Brann offers great value, he is very slow.
22-11 at the moment, still missing gormok and 2x imp gang, using imp master instead and i'm quite satisfied!
Nice, Imp Master is definitely difficult to remove for a lot of decks right now
THIS DECK IS SO SO FUN thxs ~
By the way, Why no brann bronzebeard in this deck?
I've answered this question a few times, I play this deck very aggressively and I just think he's too slow for my tempo. I'm not saying Brann isn't good in zoo but I don't think he belongs in a build as fast as this one.
