Come in and Warm your Frozen Boots by the Fire!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gunnolf, and I am originally from the Land Down Under a.k.a. Australia. I am an avid gamer that has acquired a real passion for card games, which originated from my humble beginnings as a Yu-Gi-Oh collector and eventually grew from my dabbling in Cardfight Vanguard and Buddyfight, until we reached the game we know as Hearthstone.

I've played Hearthstone since the days of classic, with multiple accounts on both EU and NA servers. Despite having reached the Rank of Legend and my own personal mentality of equating 'having fun' with 'winning', I am not really a fan of meta power-grinding & net-decking, not that there is anything wrong with that. Therefore, I enjoy thinking about new, cool and fun deck ideas that push boundaries while also allowing you to win and those are what I want to share with you guys every-time I post a decklist.

I have presently become a contributing writer to WILDHS and will be posting articles there on a semi-regular basis, regarding deck-archetypes the status of the meta as well as how to get the most fun out of this game even if you aren't a big spender. If any of this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend that you check out of the website, as the writers and the owner himself are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet with great in-game knowledge (link to be website can be found HERE). You can also follow me on Twitter for latest updates.

If you genuinely like my content and would like to see me produce more of it, then please consider supporting me on Patreon. This is by no means necessary but it will definitely help me out in the long run. Thanks for Reading ^^

Deck Introduction

Hey guys and welcome back for another wild deck profile. This time we're going to go for something slightly different, namely a budget decklist. Even though I tend to make decks without looking at the dust cost too much, as I usually use what is laying around, I am very conscious that many people may not have all the cards. From my playing on ladder, I know that ODD Paladin is a very popular deck even on the lower end of ranked and as a result there is an increasing demand of people wanting to craft the cards. Herein lies the problem. When people ask for substitutions for cards like Quartermaster and are just met with the phrase 'this card is irreplaceable' while that may be true for the higher end of ladder it isn't as prevalent on the lower end. What I am essentially trying to say that this decklist at hand is meant for entry level players that have little dust and want to play a deck without overcommitting on cards that are just good for that one class. Of course you can argue that we are featuring 1 legendary minion, namely Baku the Mooneater, so the deck isn't F2P but I would argue back that Baku can see play in multiple decks and apart from that singular expensive minion we use NO class specific epics which lowers the overall cost of the deck significantly and allows for new players to make more efficient use of their dust. Anyway, let's get right into the details.

Card Choices Explained

Below you'll find reasoning as to why certain cards were included in the present list.

a) Divine Favor: From playing paladin people know that this card is pretty nuts. Yet despite its power level it is not good enough to play as a 2 of. You tend to use your hero-power a lot and as a result you don't expend resources nearly as quickly to warrant a double inclusion. At one, the card can save you in a pinch without being completely dead against aggro.

b) Unidentified Maul: I think over the few months since its release, I made it known how much I did not like this card due to the other options available to paladin in the form of Coghammer and Rallying Blade. However, for this deck in particular it is ideal, due to the fact that most of its effects are aoe buffs and more often than not we have a wide board to play with.

b) Stonehill Defender: One of the MVPs of the deck as it usually provides great value in the form of great paladin taunts.

(At the present time, only a few cards have been listed but I will include more if questions pop-up within the comments section regarding substitutions and why other cards were included.)

Flexible Card Slots

While I would argue that the majority of the list is rather set in stone, there are always a few slots that can be played around with. The most common and flexible one that I have identified is the 3-mana slot in which currently I am running one copy of Ironbeak Owl and one copy of Argent Horserider.  I've playtested various cards in these slots and here are my results. Please feel free to mix and match as you see fit.

a) Hench-Clan Thug: Decent card since our weapons tend to have quite a few charges but unlike rogue we cannot keep snowballing it consistently. Good card but not really recommended.

b) Aldor Peacekeeper: Great card in general both against aggro and control. Would probably include as a 1 of if the meta absolutely warranted it.

c) Raid Leader: You see this card in standard a lot but in wild we have Warhorse Trainer that has a better statline. it can be argued that it only buffs silverhand recruits but in reality that majority of your board will consist of just these tokens so you don't lose a lot of value. You can of course double-drip and include them both for your extra damage pleasure.

Thoughts / Point of this Deck

The reason I wanted to make this deck was so that people who wanted to try out paladin had an opportunity to do so without spending 800 dust on crafting epics like Quartermaster. This used to apply to Level Up! as well but as we know, the card got nerfed. People can argue that these cards are integral to the success of the deck and they would be right. However, with cards like Cobalt Scalebane and Frostwolf Warlord, which are essentially the f2p substitutions for the aforementioned cards, they can get a feel for the deck before deciding whether or not to commit their precious dust to crafting them since they are exclusive to paladin and more so the dude archetype.

More F2P & Legend

While getting to legend with a free-to-play deck will be extremely difficult I here to offer you yet another budget paladin list in addition to one that costs a bit more but did in fact push me all the way to Legend. Both are extremely fun to play and are quite versatile themselves as the majority of the cards that they use can additionally be utilised in other decks.

Author's Notes

I don't know if there is very much left to see. I rarely do budget lists but I thoroughly enjoyed doing this one since a reader of mine requested a way to play odd paladin without all the epics. it definitely wasn't easy and if you have the dust to craft them I recommend that you do. However, in the lower ranks of wild you can be sure to dominate your opponents with this budget version of an already insane deck.

I enjoy deck-building a multitude of interesting decks that are both entertaining and Legend viable (with some odd Free-to-Play lists mixed in). So if you like this deck (or anyone of my other ones) consider leaving a thumbs up, as it really helps in the long run! :)

Thank you guys for all your support and if you have any suggestions, let me know.
