This would be garbage as a legendary, but being able to run two of these really enables some creative deckbuilding.
A paradoxical card... some classes like rogue or warlock would like to play wickerflame more than paladin itself would, but those classes also don't have as good taunt, divine shield and lifesteal minions as paladin does.
An excellent card that I look forward to playing.
-Taps foot waiting for the aggro version-
3 mana, 1/1, or 4 mana, 2/2, (not a stat guru) Battlecry: Gain charge if your deck has a charge minion. Repeat for poisonous and "can't be targeted by spells or hero powers".
I don't understand all the hype around this card. It's good, but not game breaking... It definitely is not an auto include in really any deck. You have to build your deck around this guy to get enough value from him. The only classes that can even benefit from all the synergy so far would be Paladin and Shaman, neither of which need this or can really fit it in the deck. They both have more reliable healing than lifesteal will probably be, we still need to see the full set of course. Windfury is a niche mechanic that rarely sees play outside of Al'Akir the Windlord. On average I see this card having taunt and divine shield. 4 mana 3/3 with taunt and divine shield is not that game breaking... Even if you manage to coin this guy out, and get lifesteal, a Mage will just turn 4 ping and Frostbolt, bye bye Corpsetaker and coin for no value other than a 2 drop spell. Warriors will just play Ravaging Ghoul to ping off the shield, and hit it with Fiery War Axe. Too low of health to get any REAL value. I'm sure it will find a niche deck but it will be no where near competitive. Very nice arena card though where taunt is OP and you're more likely to have random minions like Thrallmar Farseer or Scarlet Crusader.
Yes and no. Al'Akir the Windlord actually does see some play and it might become staple in Shaman decks. Lifesteal will be optional, as having a 4 mana 3/3 taunt, windfury and bubble minion is worth that. Second thing - Paladin decks. Just including Tirion Fordring and Wickerflame Burnbristle makes this card worth including in two copies. As for your possible strats with Mages and Warriors to counter this card - if a Mage spends his turn 4 on ping and Frostbolt, I'm game, as it's a huge tempo loss and they need that Frostbolt to finish the game, so after using it on a minion they will have to either save the second one, or pray to RNGesus for another copy. Can't say much about Warrior - if it's PW, that's a huge hindrance to their gameplay and they don't run Ghoul. As for Control Warr (taunt, or normal, if it emergers in KFT meta), that's a typicial example of control gameplay and still they had to waste resources to remove just one, severely underpriced, minion.
On the other hand, it's a 4-drop, so it'll have to compete with other cards. In Shaman it might be problematic (Jade Lightning, for an instance), but on Paladin it'll be a nightmare, as you have cards like Consecration and Truesilver Champion and more. But if you manage to pull at least one Corpsetaker with all the effects (even without windfury), you'll be getting 3-6 hp back and possible trades, so imho it's worth the risk. Generally I could see myself playing this with the right deck. Currently I think I'll go either Shaman or Pally in the next meta, as their legendaries are a bit underwhelming atm, so I won't have to invest a lot of dust.
If you run this card you're more likely going to want to run it in a deck with Tirion since you'll never mulligan it back into your deck. If you draw either before CT the effect won't proc.
I doubt this would be worth running 2-of considering the 4-mana slot and being reliant on possibly 1 card (in a perfect curve situation you play Wickerflame on 3 so it's not in deck when you play CT) so you're likely banking on Tirion in your deck for Taunt+bubble unless you wanna play hard into it and run Sunwalkers too.
Is it just me or does Corpsetaker look better in almost all cases than Prince Valanar?
Obviously both decks need to be built around the card but with something like Wickerflame Burnbristle or Al Akir The Wind Lord its simple to include Corpsetaker whereas no 4 drops is a huge cost to pay for Prince Valanar. Also you can run 2 Corpsetakers which makes it so much more consistent.
What if you draw corpsetaker before Al'Akir the Windlord or Wickerflame Burnbristle? :)
You mean after? you want to draw corpsetaker before those cards
Oops, you're right. :)
Looks like the overrated card of the set to me. In an ideal case she's Wickerflame Burnbristle with +1/+1 for 1 more mana. Last time I checked he was a decent anti aggro tool, not a deck defining build-around, so a card on his statline doesn't seem like a game changer. Downvote me all you like, but I just don't see it.
Aye, Wickerflame with +1/+1. And lifesteal. And windfury. And neutral. Nothing special here, move along.
Question: Would a minion that gives itself Taunt/Divine Shield as part of its battlecry work with Corpsetaker. I know Defender of Argus wouldn't work because it gives OTHER minions taunt as its battlecry, but what about Tol'vir Stoneshaper? How particular do you guys think Corpsetaker will be programed, since technically Tol'vir Stoneshaper does have taunt and divine shield built into the card, but as a result from the battlecry?
No, because those battlecries are conditional
Fair enough. So you think the card will be "smart" enough to recognize a conditional keyword from a native keyword then?
There is a difference between a native divine shield minion and conditional divine shield minion: the keyword battlecry.
If we look at Argent Squire, it doesn't trigger his divine shield as a battlecry, it is a native divine shield minion.
In the other hand, we have Tol'vir Stoneshaper, this minion doesn't have divine shield. The shield is activated by its battlecry.
I think Corpsetaker works looking for native taunts, lifesteal, divine shield and windfury.
Think mathematical here. Card checks your deck for cards that already have a said effect. If they get it from a battlecry or "choose one" effect (like Ancient of War), that means those cards don't have it per se. Similar with Injured Blademaster - as long as he sits in your deck or hand, he has no damage dealt to himself.
It's like this - first you play a card in a certain shape -> battlecries happen -> secrets activate -> active effects from minions trigger (I might be wrong on this one - does Pyro trigger when you get counterspelled?). So you play a non-taunt minion, that gets taunt after it's played.
Deck:
✓ Taunt
✓ Divine shield
✓ Life Steal
✗ Windfury. Not putting this shit in my deck
the perfect comment xD, only place i see windfury work is shaman
