these are really good cards, i hope they will continue release this type of cards ( i only hate the Onyxian Warder, but the other are very good)
Deep breath looks meh. I prefer boardwipes to be wider, generally. Don't stand in the fire isn't bad, per se, but compares unfavourably to volcano in a control contect, overloads on 5 when you want to do stuff on 6, and against a wide board looks bad compared to a simple Lightning Storm. Most useful as ST removal, I guess. I suspect warder is slightly better than it looks, but not a fan of the 1/5 frenzy and HK draw minion. Probably won't be killing much unless in a specific, high aggro meta, where it can do some work, but there's a reason acolyte of pain stopped seeing play.
If it's reliablely active, the priest minion is great. The Warr one will onlyfail if there's no CW. The lock one seems pretty good to me.
Board sweepers are actually bad for game design because they don't allow for meaningful board decisions. Deep breath is the kind of design where positioning correctly is important.
Keep in mind we still don't know what will be in the base set after rotation and that a great many of the power cards in the last meta rotate which will destroy 99% of all decks we currently see.
If they're not ridiculous, sweepers promote some counterplay - deathrattles and specific breakpoints (5HP against mage, 4HP against Sham etc.), as well as baiting them without overextending - one of those three is deckbuilding, one is board decision, and one is both. They also act as a check on aggro, producing higher value turns for control.
A lot of quasi-sweepers where positioning is important fall flat because they're pretty trivial to play around, unfortunately. This one is also much more limited in counterplay, owing to not knowing the size and being unable to play around it that way.
I agree that we don't know what'll be in core - the meta will, obviously, be different to now. I half-expect a half baked dragon synergy where there's not enough dragons, because Blizz like doing that to archetypes.
i dont expect to see a lot of these played now, but when rotation hits maybe
Boring cards this far. I hope there comes more interesting cards than these.
They already said they didn't want to show the best cards first.
Maybe not the cards that people want, but perhaps the cards we need :)
We need new things, the game is boring. We don't need other boring reprints mixed with the battletag dragons.
UiS had lots of new things. I'm not sure how well that turned out....
I don't agree. Quests again are not something new for me. It was the third expansion with quests.
Questlines were not super new no. Nor were "the last played/triggered" (this game) battle cries. Tradeable was very different from previous mechanics. Also getting permanent aura like buffs has not been done much (if at all?). People complained that the game was "no longer Hearthstone" at least.
I'm not cheering or anything. I've just seen 8/35 cards without making a big deal out of it. I don't expect a MINI set to bring a new card type or keyword, since they never were intended to. They are explicitly designed to add a little here and there and bring some callbacks to previous sets (yes that's what they wrote when presenting the first mini set). If you got bored from playing the same game for ages then you're just a normal sane human being. I haven't played yet this week. Not that anything is wrong with the game, that's just how life works.
It's a miniset... the whole point is to expand upon the existing mechanics for the year and reiterate on existing decks. Not introduce new cards and mechanics.
Then don't print it. We need new stuff, not a reprint.
Quests aren't new but a couple of them weren't thought through at all. You don't have the reward for a quest completely remove an integral mechanic from the game while simultaneously making sure 3 different deck types are never allowed to be played again. If you think that's okay then you are actually part of the problem with the game. That is terrible game design.
They'll introduce new stuff in April. This is literally to add more support for Honorable Kill/Frenzy/Tradeable to finish off last years' sets.
Will they? I don't remember new stuff for years. It is always a reprint.
Well there'll be some sort of new keyword stuff, I dunno if it'll impress you or not.
For years even? How much change do you expect to see in a card game? They can add classes, card types and keywords, but isn't that about it?
They can do a loot of things. New types of cards (we don't see new type of cards since Knights of the frozen throne with the hero cards), classes, interactions with the ambient (for example), new features (like equipments for the heroes for example), evolving cards in hand, interaction with the graveyard or the deck or the opponent hand, fantasy is the only limit. It is a card game but everything is digital, therefore they don't have the limits of a classic physical card game.
And yes keywords but keywords new not old keywords changed like they are doing.
The only new cool things that we saw are the tradable cards.
