How much is this usually going to be hitting for? Five maybe? I'll say five.
Remember Lightning Breath and how insane that card seemed? Remember how it was barely used? This card is a lot worse.
Maybe in a vacuum... But this is mage and a totally different Meta. If Mage is better than Shaman and if this helps it's board clear (it does), it will see much more play.
Yeah it's a meta which is even less board centric than most, making this weaker than ever.
I'd imagine it dynamically scales or descales (dragon scales lol) based on the number of spells you have, but the text implies its static upward scaling.
If it's dynamic it should read:
"Deal damage equal to the number of spells in your hand to a minion and its neighbors"
If it read as you say it could deal 0 damage (after a rune of archmage with an empty hand for example.) Also note that writing it their way the number gets updated in the card so you can see the final damage, if the card counts itself or not, and factoring in spell damage.
the point overall is it's not clear on paper how it scales. Just going to assume dynamic.
Oh, I see, I didn't understand that was your point. Then rest assured it is dynamic, but you don't even need to assume, they have already used the same wording in cards like Cram Session.
It's a great card in... midrange, tempo mage?
It doesn't specify enemy so it's not really good with any of the big spell stuff.
But honestly this is REALLY strong if you have even 6 spells in your hand. Maybe some sort of midrange quest build?
Reminds me of Dragon's Fury. The mechanic is different and fits a different deck, but it's a 5 mana dragonbreath-themed board clear spell.
Another garbage! Deals damage to minions equal to the number of spells in your hand.
