Does our submission have to have the -exact- name as the unit / building from WC3?

Edit - I'm also having issues with that link.

I would say it doesn't need to be 100% exact. Ironforge Rifleman is a Rifleman; I think people can make the leap :)

Now sure how I feel about this idea, but might as well put it out there and get the ball rollin':

...sort of off-topic, but I can't wait for Warcraft III Reforged.

You mind explaining to me how Chromie made it to the final, if my card (which has almost double the upvotes on the same page) didn't?

According to the General Competition Rules, cards related to emotes will be deemed a troll entry and disqualified. The prompt implied that anything goes except for the GCR, so we were still holding people to this ruling.

posted a message on [Class Competition Finalist] - The Lich

Kel'Thuzad is far too great a character to be limited to a single card. In some other, better universe, the Archlich would be a founding member of Hearthstone as the tenth class. So toss aside your simple Adventure, Team 5, and give Kel'Thuzad the spotlight he deserves!

As a Lich , you will hold power over the forces of death and destruction, and freeze the very life from within your enemies. You will lead an undead army seemingly without limit, sweeping across this land like a plague. You will grind down the living until they succumb to the inevitable, their tired bodies given over to you to serve in death. Eventually everyone will join the Scourge!

    Gameplay Summary

In the eyes of Kel'Thuzad, his victory is an inevitability: the enemy just hasn't realized this yet. The undead do not tire, do not need food, and do not feel pain; the forces of the living become weak from endless fighting, while the Scourge only grows in strength. You must show them the truth, wearing them down over the course of several turns until they run out of resources and die, tired and alone. The Lich utilizes various mechanics and gameplay elements to carry out this goal:

    • Freeze - Master of the cold dark, Kel'Thuzad can freeze enemies in their tracks, buying him time until they can be dealt with properly.
    • Deathrattles - Even in death minions have something to offer. The enemy can't let them live, but removing them creates more problems.
    • Resurrection effects - Recycling minions is an efficient way to garner more value out of them, especially with Deathrattles or auras.
    • Late-game fuel - The Scourge is infinite. Outlast the enemy until they have been sufficiently drained of resources.

If there's a complaint(?) to be had about these mechanics, it's that together they contribute to slow deck archetypes. The Hero Power can only stall for time, Deathrattles take time to activate, you can't resurrect until something has died, and you have to reach the late-game to benefit from the additional fuel. Similar to how the Hunter's earliest days were confined to Aggressive mindsets, the Lich - at least initially - focuses on Controlling, methodical gameplay. Taking his time, wearing out the opponent until lethal is within reach. You've already won; you just need to prove it.

    Journey to Un'Goro

In Journey to Un'Goro , Kel'Thuzad has corrupted the very idea of Darwinism and natural selection. Through forced evolution and the resurrection of extinct species, High Cultist Herenn will create new soldiers for the Scourge! *Insert evil laughter here*

    • The Quest focuses on mastery of revival effects, with hand-Adapt on the side. Minions will return to the battlefield better than ever! The set also introduces a cycle of 3-mana Secrets.

    Knights of the Frozen Throne

In Knights of the Frozen Throne , Kel'Thuzad has finally taken his rightful place as ruler of the Scourge. Without The Lich King holding him back, he can unleash his full power upon the world, bringing an eternal winter to all!

    • On a gameplay-level, the Lich will corrupt people's perception of what can be done with Freeze, Freezing your own minions for benefits ( Moorabi ? Never heard of it) .

    Kobolds & Catacombs

In Kobolds & Catacombs , a group of adventurers band together in the name of fame and fortune. Kel'Thuzad, however, has a different target in mind: the Dungeon itself! He has sent Deathspeaker Malicia to infiltrate the team as a double-agent, to claim the Catacombs for the Scourge.

    • Gameplay-wise, it's a more aggressive token archetype. The Lich has been building long-game Control archetypes since the very beginning, so the implication is that Blizzard wants to try something different. Similar to the Hunter's situation, albeit reversed.

    The Witchwood

In The Witchwood , Hagatha presents a foreboding challenge to the people of Gilneas...but another threat comes from within. Haunting noises hail from the local cemetery, and rumors tell of terrifying spirits. The Worgen are under siege by an army of ghouls and ghosts!

    • Furthering the move towards tokens, Kel'Thuzad seeks to overwhelm Gilneas with Ghouls. He hasn't abandoned his Control-ing ways, however, as the banshees lay claim to the minds and bodies of the living.
    • While not explicitly supported, many of my Freeze cards are Even-costed. Combined with the two Dragons that are Freeze-related ( Sapphiron from Classic, Iceborne Drake from KFT), an Even Freeze archetype emerges.

    Common

    Rare

    Epic

    Legendary

    The Boomsday Project

In The Boomsday Project , one of the labs searches for eternal life. And nothing says "immortality" like placing one's mind in a hunk of metal. Dr. Von Schnyder's medical center/machine shop might be a little...messy, but that's just how he likes it. Don't sleep on the job, or you too may find your brain in a jar one day.

    • The search for everlasting life is a messy business, and that can be seen in the cards (hopefully). Chopping pieces up, tacking on new bits; everything is chaotic in the workshop of a crazed surgeon. The gameplay should emphasize what it's like to be there: repairs, lasting through the late-game, and attaching things to other things.

    Common

    Rare

    Epic

    Legendary

    Rastakhan's Rumble

In Rastakhan's Rumble , High Priestess Kilnara mourns over the death of her sister, the original Priestess of the panther loa Bethekk. She sees the tournament as an excuse to let loose. Work through her emotions a little. Nothing makes a troll feel better like inflicting eternal suffering and anguish upon others, am I right?

    • ...look, Bwonsamdi was already taken, okay? I made do with the situation I was given, so...yeah. The Lich's loa is a panther. Panthers are stalkers of the night, so I tapped into that (and Kilnara's background) to create a set based around causing fear and suffering. Classic evil stuff.

    Common

    Rare

    Epic

    Legendary

    Wild (for Challenge #3)

    • Scavenger Bot is from Goblins vs Gnomes .
    • Draconic Ritual is from Blackrock Mountain .
    • Dark Herald is from Whispers of the Old Gods .

posted a message on Weekly Card Design Competition 9.18 - Submission Topic

This is the Submission Topic. The Discussion Topic is here.

    Competition Theme: Anarchy

This week's theme comes from Phoenixfeather , whose "The Rage Within" was the winner of our Artistic License competition!

    Competition-Specific Restrictions:

    • ANYTHING GOES! You may make any collectible Hearthstone card you would like to submit. It's total chaos!
    • You still need to follow the General Competition Rules, such as the ban on Golden cards.
    • Existing examples include: EVERYTHING .

    General Competition Rules

These are the rules that remain consistent from competition to competition.

First, these are the rules about Posting:

    • You are allowed to submit only one entry . An entry normally consists of only one collectible card, plus any necessary additional material or commentary (explained below).
    • You are allowed to post in this Submission Topic only once , only to submit your one entry.
    • You may not delete ANY posts you make in this Submission Topic , not even accidental ones you may make over your one allowed, such as by double-posting or by accidentally posting something here that you meant for the Discussion Topic. If you do accidentally post more than once, inform any of the Fan Creation Forum moderators via PM, and we will handle it.
    • Speaking of the Discussion Topic, that is where any discussion of this competition should go. This thread is for submissions only . If you want to discuss your card or ask questions about the competition rules or process, you can find a link to the Discussion Topic at the top of this thread. Plenty of folks there will be happy to help you out.
    • Once you have submitted your one entry, you are allowed to make only minor changes to it. Minor changes are things like correcting typos or making balance changes that do not alter the spirit of your entry as determined by we the moderators. If you want to make any changes and have any doubts as to their legality, ask us first.

These are the rules about your Submission:

    • Accompanying the image of your card, you may offer some minimal additional commentary to explain its design, balance, and/or other qualities. Flavor text is also welcome.
    • You may not submit any Gold cards or animated cards. (It's just a cheap attention grab tactic that makes it unnecessarily difficult to determine what class your card is for.)
    • Your entry must be a card of your own creation . We've been doing this for a while, so if you blatantly rip off somebody else's idea, we will know.
    • Remember that, although HearthCards is awesome, you MUST host your card somewhere other than Hearthcards. Save it and upload it to Imgur , Photobucket , or some other similar site. HearthCards has a limited server space and will purge cards after a few days, and nobody wants your card disappearing part-way through the finals. We understand that there are some HearthCards memberships that will allow you to save your card there for longer (and you should totally get one of those just for general fan creation purposes, by the way), but we don't know who has those memberships and we can't tell from the URLs.
    • When you post your Imgur link, make sure it's the actual image and not the hosting page! You need to right-click and open the image in a new window/tab first; the link should have an "i" in front of it, "i.imgur.XXXX". HearthPwn won't be able to direct-post your card, otherwise.
    • Fun and even humorous entries are perfectly allowed, but "troll" entries will be disqualified. If you're worried that your card may be misinterpreted as a troll card, contact a moderator before you submit. Emote-related cards will be considered a troll entry.
    • We reserve the right to classify cards as "troll" entries as we deem necessary, even if the reasoning is not explicitly stated in the rules.

A Note on Group Submissions: if you team up with other people to submit an entry, you must enclose that information in your submission and none of you may upvote that entry. That would be considered an unfair advantage and we will treat it as vote-manipulation. You are technically voting for yourself, and that is not allowed. Failing to tell us you're in a group is also against the rules, as we'll have no choice but to assume that you withheld the information to ghost-vote your group's submission.

TIP: Though not a rule exactly, we highly recommend that you insert your images using this icon on the bar above the post text editor: . Just click that button and put in the URL of your image. Cards that are uploaded and attached to your post are not disallowed, but in our experience they will not do nearly as well, so this is for your own benefit more than anything.

Finally, know that manipulating votes in any way is strictly forbidden. Any violators will receive an official warning, and will be banned from this and all future HearthPwn Card Design Competitions.

    Competition Process

Preview Phase (Starts Now! Ends 21:00 UTC 9/5/2019)
During this Phase, the Discussion Topic is made available, previewing this week's competition theme.
Entry and Early Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 9/5/2019, Ends 21:00 UTC 13/5/2019)
During this Phase, the Submission Topic is made available for your submissions. You may also, of course, feel free to give early up-votes to any submissions that you like!
Voting Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 13/5/2019, Ends 21:00 UTC 14/5/2019)
During this Phase, the Submission Topic will be locked, so no more entries may be submitted. Instead, use this time to browse the submissions and up-vote your favorites!
Final Phase (Starts 21:00 UTC 14/5/2019, Ends 21:00 UTC 15/5/2019)
During this Phase, the Discussion Topic will also be locked, and a new Poll Topic will go up. Discussion will be allowed to continue in the Poll Topic, and it will also include all the qualifying finalists and poll to decide the winner of the competition!

How do we determine the qualifying finalists? First, we'll pull up-vote data from each submission using the formula detailed below:

    ( ab ) / ( c ) = x

    Where,
a = The total number of submissions on the same page as the submission.
b = The total number of up-votes that the submission received.
c = The total number of up-votes on the same page as the submission.
    x = The submission's final score.

The formula basically measures which cards stood out the most, with the necessary assumption that each page is about equal in overall submission quality. It will be the entries that receive the highest final scores that move on to the Final Phase.

The bottom line is that, although entries on the earlier pages of the Submission Topic are much more visible and thus receive many more up-votes than entries on later pages, you don't actually have to rush to get your entry in as soon as possible because the up-votes end up being weighted by what page your entry ends up on in order to determine its final score.

But wait, there's more! During each Weekly Card Design Competition, each Fan Creation Forum moderators will be given a Wild Card , which they can use to advance any one entry that they feel was initially overlooked or under-appreciated to the Final Phase, regardless of its final score. Wild Cards are our way of spicing things up a bit, but please don't ask to be given one or be upset if you aren't given one. These are just supposed to be fun.
(Also, it should go without saying that, while we moderators are allowed to participate in the competitions, we are not allowed to benefit from Wild Cards.)

    Rewards

Bragging rights are always awesome, but as usual, we do offer a couple of HearthPwn site rewards to competition winners:
Their card forever immortalized in our Winners' Gallery !
They will be allowed to select the next card design competition theme.
And a unique Avatar Border & " Card Design Champion " Title, as depicted below!

posted a message on Game of Thrones is disappointing

They were teasing the possibility of the Mad Queen, but I wasn't totally sure if they would pull the trigger. This episode wholeheartedly answered that question, with great gusto.

I was very disappointed with Jamie's fate, but perhaps it was wrong of me to hope for something more positive. No Queen-slayer theory, no final act of redemption or return to Brienne, just...buried next to his wicked bitch of a sister. This "battle" honestly felt abridged, like The Long Night. Six episodes still feels too short.

...all well. One more week, then all the theories, nitpicking, and bitching can stop. It might be justified bitching at times, but it still grows tiresome. On some level we're all going to have to accept what we've been given and enjoy it to the best of our ability, because this is it. If GRRM ever gets around to finishng the books, then great. That just seems...highly unlikely at this point.

At first, I designed it as a Mage card with mana cost reduction with Spell Damage, but Kalecgos destroyed that idea. So, I've been thinking about other iterations, and I liked the Stealth one.

The idea is to play it with Preparation, which means it virtually is a 15 mana cost card, so 5 Stealth minions are required.

Conceal costs 1, so 6 minions if without coins, let's be realistic, we won't drop 5 stealth minions on later turns without being dead/massive spells

That's a good point, I didn't think about Conceal. How have I ignored such an obvious card? Now I feel a bit stupid.

Hard to spot Conceal while it has Stealth :P

posted a message on Is Rat Trap good now?

I've been running one copy in my Secret-heavy deck since Rat Trap was printed; I've always like the card. People just don't seem to care to play around it, right up until a 6/6 drops on the table unexpectedly and tilts the game. Even if it only eats up a removal, that's pretty good value for your 2-mana "set it and forget it" Secret.
