Well, Sherman, I'm waiting for your thorough opinion on the first episode :P
Sorry for taking my time to reply to your post, my dear Morkimus, I have been a bit busy lately. :P I liked the first episode, although that doesn't mean it didn't have its bad moments. I really loved John Bradley-West performance (Samwell Tarly) at the end, when he talked with Daenerys and later with Aegon Targaryen (I mean, Jon Snow... XD).
In the other hand, the second episode was just... really bland. Nothing special happened (well, except for Jon telling Daenerys about him being a Targaryen, but it was a very short conversation, so... meh...). It was nothing else than a filler episode showing the prepartion for the incoming and inevitable battle with the White Walkers. A waste of time if you ask me. ;)
Still, I'm super excited, and I can't wait for the next episode, hehe. :D

Shermyyyy! My brudah!Welcome back!Hearthpwn had started to become ulta boring without you.Even morkimus went MIA :(
The upcoming finale feels like it's going to be such a desecration of the original work and its message.
You have known -- literally for many years now -- that the show was going to diverge significantly from the books. If you find that idea sacrilegious, you really shouldn't be watching the show. Disappointment for those reasons is 100 percent your fault, not the show's. They did everything they could to manage your expectations in that regard.

I think they've done a great job of setting up the big battle here. We're guaranteed to lose a Stark, either Tormund or Brienne, I think a dragon will die, etc.
These first two episodes have filled in some gaps and rounded off some character arcs while building tension really well. I think this was a good way to get going on the final season. Mounting dread is exactly what the viewer should feel, since that's what everyone else in the show is living with as the battle draws close.
GoT is known for building complex characters that live in a complex world, a world that thrives on blood and power, where the underdogs either win or fail, never a guarantee. These first two episodes have built us into the coming fight rather nicely imho

I thought Ep 2 was really meaningful. Not high action, but it's an episode that had to happened. We needed the reunions, the bringing around of the character arcs, and the reveal of Jon's true lineage to Dany. I'm sure many will not make it past Ep 3.
But I swear on the gods, the Lord of Light, the Drowned God, Rh'llor, and whatever bloody god you worship....you touch my boy Samwell Tarly and there will be severe hell to pay.

Has anyone noticed that Rhaegar basically called 2 of his sons Aegon? I mean... it's a bit stupid xD

Pretty sure Lyanna named Aegon 2, Rhaegar was a bit too dead to be doing any naming.
Really pleased with how this season has been shaping up. I've long given up on the sort of intrigue and mystery of the earlier seasons, and I think that actually makes sense, narratively - this isn't a world of political games and trickery anymore, this is a fight for survival, straight and simple. Cersei and Daenerys, two characters both still playing political games, are both being shown to be incredibly stupid for doing so, and rightly so.
I'm really excited to see who we lose next episode. I almost don't want to make any predictions, because at this point I have so few characters I really want to live and I don't want to jinx myself.

ah I never seen anything leading up to it. I try not to check out any media surrounding something to avoid spoilers as best as possible.
was the 2nd episode longer? I'm sure I heard they had cut down episode time, but had more episodes in season or something? sure this happened already though.

I agree, the 2nd one wasn't as good.
Next episode should have some battles in it though, and the action-heavy ones are usually decent.

The first episode was a bit shorter than normal, the second episode had a normal run-time, the third episode will be the longest in the entirety of Game of Thrones, and episodes 4-6 will be longer than normal. "Normal" in this instance meaning an hour.

The political games and trickery were my favorite thing about Game of Thrones, but many great players like Baelish or Margaery are already dead and characters like Varys are not doing much, because as you said, now we have a bit different problem on the table. But I am also enjoying this season, I liked the second episode a lot, I think it was needed to see those character developments. Next episode is supposed to be amazing, I’m excited, but honestly, the action filled battles aren’t really what makes me love GoT so much.
Okay I'm really late to this thread but I'd like to share my thoughts.
About the quality of the show: First off I completely agree that the quality of the show has dropped significantly after season 4. I still really enjoyed parts of seasons 5-7 (like hardhome and the sequence where Cersei blows up the sept) but I also really dislike other parts (like the entirety of episode 6 in season 7). I think GRRM is definitely partially to blame since he should have given D&D more to work with (as far as I know he just told them the ending and a few other important things and left the rest up to them), but I also think D&D could have handled a lot of things much better than they did. The most notable things to me are Dorne (season 5 and 6) and the whole Arya vs Sansa bullshit and episode 6 in season 7. Ellaria Sand acted completely irrationally ever since Oberyn was killed and the sandsnakes are just a bunch of completely uninteresting angry girls who happen to be good at fighting. The Arya vs Sansa thing in season 7 was really difficult to watch, I can't remember other shows or movies in which I've seen people act so out of character as Arya did. And then we got the episode beyond the wall which was just one big fuck you to the logic of many things that had previously been established in the show. I just cannot believe that D&D where even trying when they wrote that episode. They probably just wanted to make sure the night king got an undead dragon and be done with it.
What I think about season 8 so far: That being said, I did enjoy the first two episodes of season 8 quite a bit. The first episode still had some bad stuff (I really don't like the romance between Jon and Daenerys) but a lot of good stuff as well (especially Sam's scenes where great, mostly thanks to John Bradley's amazing acting). I liked the second episode a lot more than the first one, I can see why some people think it was too slow, but I also think that was necessary as build up for the next episode. My main criticism with the episode is that I didn't really see anyone being scared of their highly likely death approaching within literal hours, it felt like everyone was a bit too chill about it. It did make me very hyped for the next episode though, this episode basically guaranteed that we are going to lose a lot of characters.
My thoughts on what the ending could/should be: Lastly I'd like to give my view on possible endings. I really hope the whole battle with the Night King will be resolved in the next episode or the one after that. I've always loved Game of Thrones because for its many grey characters, which resulted in me never being sure who to root for since there were always characters I liked at both sides. I feel like the white walkers kind of killed that whole idea. The premise of the good uniting against one evil is not a bad concept (it's used in the Lord of the Rings, and I fucking love the Lord of the Rings) but it does not feel right in Game of thrones. Of course Cersei is still around and she is definitely going to be an obstacle to whoever is left after the fight in the north.
To be honest I have no idea how the show is going to end but I really hope the ending won't be 'Jon and Daenerys live happily ever after and rule the seven kingdoms together'. Luckily I think that's very unlikely to happen, especially since GRRM said the ending is going to be 'bittersweet'. An ending that I thought could be interesting is one where Daenerys eventually wins but at the cost of becoming a 'mad queen'. Maybe she will kill Jon because she knows he has a stronger claim to the throne, and after everything that happened we will basically be back where we started, but now with a mad queen instead of a mad king. I could be totally wrong of course but I think that would be interesting. I actually don't even like Daenerys but Game of Thrones used to not care at all about what the viewers wanted to happen, so in that sense an endin like this would be fitting for me :P.
I never expected to post something like this on a Hearthstone forum but I'm really passionate about stuff like this so I'd love to join the conversation :p

Did you even read the rest of my post, mate?? Since you didn't, here's the TL;DR : simple divergence from source material is fine and inevitable. What annoys me in this instance is that it diverged into a direction that 1) changed the genre 2) took on all the fantasy tropes that the original was criticizing
Has anyone noticed that Rhaegar basically called 2 of his sons Aegon? I mean... it's a bit stupid xD
I mean, they're not exactly going to be growing up in the same household, so it's not really a big deal :P
I didn't really like the first episode. It was basically a big 'ol compilation of what we already knew was going to happen and everyone reacting to meeting each other after many seasons. I was expecting someone to tell Jon about his linage in the start of the episode and for people to start acting on this knowledge to push the story forward immediately. It didn't seem that unreasonable given that the end of the last season teased the moment
Episode two brought the hype back, though. I really hope "Mad Queen Dany" takes off and someone significant pays the price. Just to shake things up a bit
OMG, the third episode was... The third episode was... The worst and most disappointing shit I have ever watched in my entire life. WTF was that shit??? Like seriously, WTF???????????? >:-(
