i think it's foolish to defend blizzard when it comes to lack innovation. We're paying 50-80 dollars per expansion and is valid to want to see some flavor in the game. If I could pinpoint any meta as being the best in HS, it was Ungoro and so far the best year imo has been mammoth. Even though blizzard dropped the ball with Druidstone in KFT, all 3 of last year's expansions have been interesting and kept the game feeling fresh.
OP is right, death knights and quests were a wonderful addition to the game and much more interesting to play than echo. There is plenty ofdesign space blizzard can play with. Here's some I can think of off the top of my head:
1. discard / deck order - Gnomeferatu and Azari, the Devourer seem to imply there is some merit to this. What if we had cards that rearrange the order of decks? "Battlecry: Reorder your opponent's deck in mana-crystal order". Suddenly in the late game they're struggling to get DK Gul'dan out.
2. graveyard - obviously talked about a lot, Resurrect style cards can work again. Hey, even something like "summon a Zombeast from a random beast destroyed by you and your opponent"
3. AoE - Yugioh had field cards, why can't we? We shouldn't compare it to Crystal Core because that had its own set of issues and was specifically for your own hero. AoE in HS can be about balance. What about "All minions have +1 attack". Suddenly Priest can't kill your 3 attack minions. Or say you're playing aggro, you think you're going to win quickly but now the opponent's taunts and lifesteal minions also have +1 attack. This can come with it's own set of counters, like "Destroy all field cards". Other ideas for "field cards" can include: "at the end of each turn, heal all minions +1" / "all minions on the field are considered neutral and have no tribe" / "each time a player plays a minion, it is given a random effect (taunt, divine shield, windfury)
4. Alternate mana / blood / payment of cards - they were onto something with cards like Bloodbloom. Why not have new ways to play cards besides mana? Maybe minions require sacrifice, similar to Sanguine Reveler. Maybe there's a number where the mana crystals should be "4 for example" which means "destroy 4 mana worth of your own minions on either side to summon this". maybe you drop this "4 minion cost" card between 2 2 drops, and it has 7/7 ;)
these are all pretty simple concepts and would do new players no injustice to learn.

MY JAWS THAT BITE
MY CLAWS THAT CATCH

Compared to something like Glacial Mysteries which saw absolutely no play, I think this is actually fairly weak.

We all underestimated Spiteful Summoner didn't we...

This turns Arcane Missiles into Cinderstorm with a 2/1 body js ;)
Also, its possible Arcane Explosion may see play as a T4 Enemy board clear, more powerful than Volcanic Potion and leaves a 2/1 body

100 dust looks nice

Malygos seems thrilled

i kind of wish they revealed this after revealing some more magnetic mechs, it would be much hype-ier

great stats and good effect—all depending on this treant thing. if history will repeat itself, the treant thing will not be meta but will be playable

I've gotten legend twice, and both times required a ton of grinding.
Just happy to have the card back and play fun decks at the bottom of the R5 cesspool
