I get the instinct. I wield the rope as a weapon, whenever I feel an opponent shows a sign of disrespect. Now, I'm pretty touchy about it because this game brings out the worst in me.
For instance last week's Brawl there was a hero power to send a random minion back to the opponent's hand. Once I hit that and it sent by far the worst option back, Dr. Boom I think, so he could get more Boom Bots. If that was me I either emote nothing or "Sorry". He said "thank you". My reaction was to rope hard the rest of the game. So while I should have a better reaction, and probably misinterpret some emotes, at least it's based on being disrespected first.
But roping on ladder because you hit a cancer deck makes no sense to me. The ladder is there for you to win. If Blizzard created the goal of advancing, and Blizzard's cards mean cancer decks do it best, then why get mad at the player?? Play another mode, or at least realize it's not the opponent's fault. Now, if you see one in Casual, rope away.
This is like saying we should forgive murderers because maybe they think killing people is OK. Are you serious?
It may surprise you to know but this is an actual occurrence. It is most often achieved through a plea of insanity, whether guilty or non guilty it greatly reduces charges in many cases and can result in the dismissal of others. I'm sure there are other ways with out court system to slip murder as well. So in the eyes of federal and state law the response would be yes, he is serious. If you were regarding ethics in your reply it seems odd given your previous comment disregarding the sect entirely. As a moreover the OP never even stated directly he roped for the purposes you imply.
Edit: On a somewhat unrelated note, your alliance to Ramsay Bolton is confusing at its least.
The legal issues you speak of don't condone the murder because of mitigating circumstances, they simply inform the way it is punished. If mental illness led to a genuine belief that the murder was right, the sentence is changed, but the ethical stance on murder remains the same. Nobody is forgiven when proven to have committed murder, extenuating and mitigating circumstances just change the way the punishment is handed down. A plea of insanity never removes all repurcussions either, and will at least lead to court-mandated treatment.
These are subtle differences, and the argument over whether or not there is a higher code of ethics all people adhere to is a deeper question, but murder is never considered ok because of a deviant worldview except to the murderer himself.
Edit: On a somewhat unrelated note, your alliance to Ramsay Bolton is confusing at its least.
I only like Ramsay Bolton as a TV show character in a fantasy world, mostly because I find him very funny and entertaining. I would probably not approve most of his actions if he were a real-life person :P
I try to play as quickly as i can to get it over with. Like any well adjusted adult would do.
"I try to give them the victory as fast as possible, so that they may enjoy themselves the most possible and face other unlucky souls. Like any cowardly slave who won't fight for what is right."
Okay. But some people *do* care, and roping cancer is one of the few tools Blizzard has allowed us to utilize to make the world a better place; If everyone took responsibility and roped the cancer, people would stop playing it, or at the very least -- it would take so much time that other decks hit legend faster.
I try to win them asap to save my own time. Like any other polite person fighting for what is right.
I agree fighting for what is right is a good thing, but Secret Paladin isn't OP or cancer and roping them isn't right. Like all the other opponents, they are worthy opponents and people who deserve to face polite people while enjoying this game. Just like all the other players in this game.
I can't believe there are people actually posting serious stuff about philosophy. I've taken a few philosophy courses in my day too, but to wank my academic dick in people's faces in a troll thread would just be sad. It's not even a philosophical topic, it's a societal one. Do what you want as far as unnecessary roping goes, but don't be surprised by the negative reactions from people.
We aren't all nerds, some have a life outside Hearthstone and sometimes even read books, even philosophy books. The following object is a what I called a book, a new word for you. It has pages, with words written in it. It's like a forum but there's often only one author and it's often quite longer than a forum post. Sometimes, when a book is very good, your opinion about things is likely to evolve. Give it a try :-)

Not to completely derail the thread, but your use of the word "probably" in that sentence was just a little creepy. Sorry but why are you hedging? Which Bolton actions are less evil than roping secret paladins? --->KAPPA<----
(BTW, I would like to see someone generate some memes for "Things that are less evil than roping Secret Paladins" in case anyone is up to the challenge!)

I wouldn't act like ramsay IRL. I totally would've eaten theon's sausage.

^ This. Well said man.
How is any of this well said? Just because he uses appropriate grammar doesn't change the fact it's not suited to retort me; he simply wrote an explication on the redundancy and details I chose to omit due to non-relevancy. The why is indicated as clearly as is read- one to the other. I never stated it was therefore condoned through mitigation, it clearly does not read in my response that: A plea of insanity never removes all repercussions* - assumed implication of such is for lack of reading comprehension; I hope you may reread and find your subtle difference as extraneous as sherman considers philosophical crap... furthermore my reply was to sherman, who chose to abandon ethical scope in his prior comment. Very unnecessarily said and not relevant to original discussion at all, I was trying to show sherman his mix up in attacking the OP for claims unsubstantiated.

I mean, let's be fair. Theon kinda had all that stuff coming to him.
Couldn't resist, Ramsay is the most entertaining in that entire series of books or the tv show. :)

My understanding is that if someone is found to be unable to distinguish right from wrong in a moral sense, they are neither forgiven nor are they subject to punishment. Punishment is something meted out to rational moral actors. This is why your average criminal is is allowed to rejoin society after the completion of their sentence. They are presumed to be able to respond rationally to punishment. If someone is found not guilty by reason of insanity, they can then be confined to a mental institution. This might well seem like a punishment, but it is actually a recognition by the State that you are incapable of responding rationally to punishment and therefore not capable of being a morally competent agent. In many ways, being excluded from the morally competent agents club can have worse repercussions than simply being found guilty. But the intent behind those repercussions is not the same as intent behind State mandated punishment. You are, of course, correct in your assessment of instances that fall short of a finding of insanity (mitigating circumstances etc).

But Theon didn't actually kill the Stark kids. He just killed some poor village kids and then pretended that they were the Stark kids. That's got to be...I don't know... a mitigating circumstance?

Thank you for your interesting response.
