I'm just curious where did you get the required amount of XP per level, and the hourly XP rate? I will be interested to get the source, so I can check in the future if there are some changes.

The free given legandary does not count aswell, because blizzard gave a free legendary for all players in the past aswell.
This makes your calculations a bit worse for the new system.
We don't actually know what legendary quest chains (if any) and login bonuses (if any) they will give us. I wouldn't assume that we'll get nothing from the start of the expansion.
Gold is strictly better than packs because you get to pick where you spend that gold.
I'm really disappointed at the new reward system. This was a perfect opportunity to lower the cost of the game and instead they just monetized it more. Everyone agrees that the main reason people are quitting the game is the high cost it has. I mean by buying the preorders I could buy Cyberpunk AND Demon's Souls, and still I wouldn't have all the cards for the expansion ( On top of that Blizz had the BALLS to launch the game at the same time as Cyberpunk, they got really lucky they moved the launch date) . The high cost of the game is the main reason for the meta getting stale so quickly because most people just get enough gold/dust to craft 1 deck and they will craft the most boringly optimized deck to climb ranked. Even if you spend enough money every expansion to get every card and don't care about the price of the game, this affects you. You are spending money on a game dependent on it's player base. If the player base quits and the game dies, you are spending money on nothing.

I agree with you. In honesty I have payed for everything since the very start but I’m now at the point it won’t happen again. I thought Blizzard were about to make the game more affordable but I can no longer justify spending £250-300 per expansion for all the cards. the battle passes and now it will be even worse with a mid expansion set. The only logical way with the mid term set is to allow players to buy the whole set as a bundle cause there is ZERO chance of me spending another £100 mid expansion just to roll and try and get the cards.
There is literally no reason for this game to be so expensive other than pure greed. A few fucking pixels and some art and cool effects! There is nothing tangible, we cannot sell out accounts through a legal means to even attempt to recuperate some of the cost.
I would like to see them sell full sets for a fixed price the same way any AAA game would cost and then have the option to buy golden packs and cosmetics for those who want a bit of bling. Selling cool emotes or anything like that, but always sell the full 135 cards for say £70, in line with the new PS5 games. Then the mid expansion £30 or something considering it’s only 35 cards.
Either way, I am a staunch supporter of this game usually but it’s becoming unsustainable and my partner is questioning why I am wasting enough money each year that could take us both ona Caribbean holiday!
I share the same feeling, stopped buying preorders and bundles a couple of extensions ago, I had spend easily 2000€ on the game prior to that, now that I'm F2P who only do dailies I have even less hope of getting most of the playable cards without having to dust old expansions, I try to stack 7/8k dust and 5k gold prior to release of a new expac and it was somewhat doable, I would just buy packs with golds for 2 months after the release to get the cards I wanted, now there's no way I'm gonna be able to catch-up.

Damn...I've spend around 1000R$ in this game (more or less 183,27USD total) and when I see someone saying that spent more than 200£ each expansion makes me feel really bad, cause this money in my country would be like 6462,80R$ in my country, enough to buy a PS4 and a MID-HIGH end Computer to play any shit and still left for some beers, fast foods and a hotel with my wife. Damn, this game is really expensive, even in other countrys. This is at least legal? There isn't any cyber law that protect the consumers for paying for nothing?
Edit: 200£ = 6462,80R$ I've spended actually 100,00R$ for expansion and bundles on the last two years totalizing 1000,00R$ more or less (154,73£).
Meh...really great text to explain why are u defending such a horrible system, but still your math is wrong.
I'm a legend player and used to farm in less than 1h30/40 each day playing aggro decks like Odd pally or Druid or whatever is fast to play and always achieved my 150/160/200 gold daily quest. in 7 days i had 1.120g already. in 4 months 13k+ gold + what bundle or pre order i bought each expansion wich gave me a lot of options to spend my gold on - Adventures - Old packs or just hold the money to spend in another expansion, maybe not even the next one, like rastakan rumble, a horrible expansion that i didn't spend anything on it and saved my gold for the next one totalizing almost 60k gold in two expansions and events...so...no. ur math is waaaaaaaaaay too wrong. Great effort for all white knights but that's not what many ppl here are discussing about this trash new system. We want options to spend our gold, i don't care that much for packs of standard every expansion released cause or i buy bundles or pre order or I just play wild and abandon standard that's a shitshow right now. This new system doesn't give you options, and nobody likes to grind experience. This game, the interface, everything is lookin right now like a FACEBOOK game.
Ad-Hominen attacks on people with different opinions to yours just makes your whole post seem juvenile and it's hard to take seriously.
You clearly grind the game ALOT. Far more than your average person. Yeah, maybe it isn't as good for you but you represent a really small % of the player base.
Liking the new system doesn't make you a 'white knight'. It just means you like the system. If you can't comprehend someone having an opinion that's different to your own then that's your issue and given that this is a digital card game, I would wonder how well you get on with conflict in the real world. Like, if someone at works like an idea and you don't, do you just start attacking and trashing them? Or do you reserve that behaviour for when you're behind a keyboard?
You might have a point but you've articulated it so poorly that it's pretty much just noise. Maybe engage with people and talk to them like they are adults and it might generate some genuine discussion and be a tiny part towards this community maybe steering in one direction on things.
These new accounts defending blizzard criminal activities are really boring. They even try to pass as real ppl with real opinions by using the same s*t arguments as = Different opinion/We are different person...etc etc and so on. We all know by this time that a lot of ppl defending the new system here are hired for it, new accs and such without pictures in this site. There's a guy here as the name "Tall Strange" he's one of them like you fomenting opinion for ppl that doesn't even believe in that. Same ppl those days doesn't even consider anything, they just defend their ideals like ppl defending Football teams, without even think that they won't will won anything in their lives by doing that. The reality is here, I'm in lvl 17 and the experience to go trough pass from 2000exp wich means more time consuming for a children's game, a game that we came in first place for the casuality, not to spend the same amount we would spend in other really great games than this one. Doesn't make sense to lost time here, even paying money (losers in general that like pay to win or childrens with parent's credicard doesn't care at all) or don't paying money (winners doesn't need a large collection and doesn't play a game for more than 10 hours a game if they are really winners, they just don't need it). So that's it, go and call the staff to create more acc to influence more dumb ppl to your side, the reality is that Blizzard became too greedy to bare, and the right call is to abandon the game. That's what i'm doing now, And I was a fan of blizzard games for years, but right now, it's undefendable and many of HIGH IQ profile humans will not agree with the system, leaving space for a new playerbase dumb enough to spend money in this game and after 6 years they will be winners finally due the old players leaving empty spaces to the bad players face each other in high ranks, specially now with this new horrible ladder system.

Sorry to hear that mate. I mean don’t get me wrong I’m not rich or anything which is all the more reason it’s painful spending so much money. I would say I have an addictive personality and they got me on the hook but I’m starting to wake up after 6 years of being raped.
I only read through the "questing adventurer". The OP includes free packs and cards in the calculations for the new system but only inludes gold from quests in the calculations for the old system. They have always given us a lot of free packs each expansion (current and previous expansion packs), and they've usually given us 2 legendaries per expansion.
Even with their generous estimates on time played and experience/time rates, if we go for the fair comparison, the OP is shorting the old system by 1,500-2,000 gold. Almost every other "mathematical" analysis I've seen shows that the new system clearly gives us casual players less overall.

No. It is not a fair comparison. We will still get special quests during launch days and special events. Will they be as good as before? I hope so. My judgement for changes will really depend on what special quests we will get tomorrow.
To be frank Blizzard has done an awesome job. It's a fantastic progression system and have been very generous. It's sort of a new movement which will propel hearthstone even further. Blizzard is rocking it right now.

Except we're still getting those things in the new system, so there's no point addressing it since it doesnt change.
Even this thread is not accurate because it severely overestimates the amount of time that casuals play.
Casuals get more overall. The only ones who get less are hardcore players. If you're taking the time to post on these forums about the game, you aren't a casual my guy.
And six seconds looking at your post history shows that you're Diamond 5, so clearly you aren't casual at all, since (last year at least) only 6% of players reached rank 5, equivalent to Diamond now. You're in the top 3-4% of players of the game dude.

It is much much worse. Standard is being transitioned to p2w whales only mode because blizzard has done the calculation that getting more money out of them is the only path to more profit. So if you have been paying through the nose to have a fairly complete set of cards in standard, get ready to pay about 30 percent more annually (that is an estimate) to achieve the same thing while the player base dwindles and you play against bots.
This is like the one scientific study that shows that vaccines are actually harmful against the five million that say they're alright. This community is so bad. I hope the game collapses so whales lose all their shiny pixels they spent hundreds of dollars on and hours writing essays about how it's actually really good that they're expensive.
First off: Very nice post, solid analysis and results.
Finish off!: It's simple: I remember Blizzard saying that the new system will be clearly better than the old one, it will be great, bla bla, etc. In a very conservative approach to the whole thing: They should simply raise the rewards by 50%, so the systems is exactly this.
In a more radical approach (which I guess it's absolutely unlikely to happen :)): The should do the above, reduce the price for the packets by a half (or even more!) while keeping the cards gotten out of them the same.
But hey, they are obviously greedy f.ckers. It's Activision-Blizzard after all! :)
Hey Poghy,
Thank you for the good job completed here.
I'm just curious where did you get the required amount of XP per level, and the hourly XP rate? I will be interested to get the source, so I can check in the future if there are some changes.
Could you please share the links?
Cheers,
Play as you are. Have Fun!

Your math is a bit off, since xp per hour is max 400 per in-match hour. So the xp per hour is more like 300-350.
For questing adventure it is a level less.
For the farmer it is 3-6 levels less.
For the streamer it is 6-12 levels less.
For the average player it is 1-2 levels less.
