It is funny that control players still talk about skills. Aggro Vs aggro is all about decision making, and a single mistake can cost you the game.
Control Vs control is about value but also a ton of RNG. E.g. Priest mirrors depend on Galakrond luck, highlander decks depend on Alex luck and let's not get started on puzzle box.
To all the players who say: "itS jUsT aBouT GoiNg FacE". Try it and see your winrate.
I don't know what was going through your mind when you said aggro vs aggro mirror is the best mirror in the game. An aggro vs aggro mirror involves very little skill as there are only couple of things that really matter. Whoever goes first gives that player a huge advantage in the game as they get immediate board control and can follow up with more pressure on the following turn while also trading their turn one minion if needed into the enemies maintaining board control. Literally the whole match-up of aggro vs aggro is whoever has more board control has the pressure to go face while the other has to trade and eventually whichever player maintains board control wins.
There‘s no point in changing your mind. You are a aggro player, so you like the mirror the most. Most likely you like the mirror match of the deck type you like, because of you are playing your favorite deck type.
I personally like midrange a lot, also control decks are awesome. I still can understand your point, since i play aggro from time to time too. But in any case the mirror match is always the most enjoyable.
This thread does not insult OTK/mill/infinite so i'm not interested
No ok Just kidding,anyway:
Personally,I enjoy playing control, aggro has never been fun to me,the only aggro deck i ever played was budget """"""""midrange"""""""" hunter in Kotft and kobolds, since I am an almost F2P player (no money exept the minimum amount when i switched to wild and another time as a bithday gift)It took me....a while to gather the dust i needed for more expensive decks
Anyway I enjoy control (and the control vs control mirrors most of all) for many reasons:
1) (the simple one) I made a 30 card deck,I want to use at least most of them, also to me it feels more satisfying to beat someone after both of us tried to win using EVERYTHING
2) the "screw you, you're not winning" playstyle fits my mindset way more than the "screw you I win" one and control is the only archetype that allows me to play like that (admittedly not all control decks are like this, some include actual wincoditions that actively threten the opponent)
3) I like card generation, I like playing for value, now there is a point (that Hearthstone has arguably reached) where it goes from fun and skill expressive (choosing the right card, using it correctly etc..) to complete RNG BS but to me,It still (for now at least) feels fun
4) I generally love "outscaling" the opponent in the lategame
These are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, anyway I also undesrtand that different people like different thing so Just like I'm never going to change your mind, I'm not going to change yours🙃
I personally like midrange vs midrange over other mirror matchups. The aggro can be nice too, but it can be completely decision based on their hand and card draw. For control mirror matchup, it feels the game will decide which one of us wants to win at the end (that's just my feeling.)
Both mirror matchups can be nice when the game give us a chance to have fun together, but I prefer midrange over them all. Probably because I like medium-paced game over the other ones.
I agree that if you play aggro/tempo yourself, playing vs similar decks is usually the most fun and challenging. The opening hands and topdecks CAN be deciding, but my experience is that the games are often very close and hinge on every move you make. Also, when 2 fast decks face off, both fight viciously for the board for the first turns, but a very accurate call to go for the killing blow needs to be made.
Also, when playing aggro vs control decks, you have to hope they don't draw that key card, and vs combo, it is all boring smocing. Mid-range vs aggro games can be fun, but are usually about if the mid-range player hits the early game and gets to do their swing moves before they die.
Combo and control mirrors can be fun too, but they are so different and so much slower I don't think it is even worth discussing.
An old discussion correlating aggro with fun and control with boring. Understandably as this thread consists of Blizzards target audience and 'political' base. It's like a bar where 'party' members celebrate drinks on aggro = skill = fun. Reading through, it's like being a democrat on a conservative convention. Looking at adults celebrating certainties of children.
After 7 years for the first time I'm wondering if the skill floor is on the rise with this new expansion, pushing combostone. Knowing how to combo is from higher skill order than the 'skill' of knowing when to trade/go face. Controlling the board state requires so much more thinking power than face is the place. But saying that in the bar of Blizzards 'conservatives' encounters deafening ears.
But there are enough out there who will enjoy a game of control skill, while seeing the inevitable aggro crowd as Blizzards way to say: we can't help it for now, need to sell packs. In the end it is all about the money. Aggro sells like sex does.
So the 'election' of who defines what skill is will be fought in the coming months. Who wins the Presidency on skill? We live in a post-truth society they say and those pointing that out, consistently accused of being fake news. Where is that country and the world (of HS) heading. A change of course? Maybe the association with school and students is a trend break, after years of considering mindlessness skill, a dawn of a new era in which there will be a redefinition and the aggro player deprogrammed and re-educated to appreciate the real thing?
Time will tell. For now enjoy your aggro vs. aggro.

Edit: except combo. That mirror is just silly.

Yah I love when games are decided based on your opening hand and your first 3 draws. Really fun gameplay

I like elementals and totems.
