I'm not a WoW player so I don't know the lore but I have an idea to make Mana Wyrm playable again at 2 mana. Why not make it an elemental? Mana seems to suggest that it has something to do with elementals and stuff. This way it would be a pretty okay card in Control mage, since it has life steal and if you can keep it on board, you can buff it up and get a decent lifesteal minion and it would synergise with your other elementals. It wouldn't be able to get way out of hand in that deck too because the spells are rather expensive in most Control Mages so you'd maybe get +2 a turn for it, which is not that hard to deal with. Maybe I am a dumb for thinking Mana Wyrms have anything to do with elementals but at least this way it would be viable again and have appropriate stats and power levels for 2 mana.
Sadly blizzard decisions are to ultimately kill cards and make them unplayable instead of a casual nerf.
This gets repeated constantly but is simply not true. The majority of nerfed cards have continued to see constructed rank play after being nerfed. Selective memory is a powerful force. A card disappearing entirely is more memorable than one still used at a lesser capacity, and overtime it feels as if card decimation is the general policy.
Hex, Execute, Spreading Plague, Abusive Seargent, Hunter's Mark, Innervate, Murloc Warleader, Leeroy Jenkins, Soulfire, Gadgetzan Auctioneer.. these cards are so well accepted in their current state that we hardly remember the nerfs. There are many other less ubiquitous examples as well.
Mana Wyrm was nerfed. Hard. Yes it feels like an era has ended. Just remember that we do not see the big picture, our community is notoriously horrendous at predicting card power levels, many nerfed cards eventually regain relevance, and ones that don't are often for the best.
Guys. Mage JUST got a 0 mana spell, a spell that is sometimes 1 mana, and the ability to copy/preserve an early game minion if you attack it in Splitting Image.
Turn 1 Mana Wyrm, Evocation, 0 mana elemental
Turn 2 Evocation, Tar Creeper, Scorch, 3/2 hits the face.
By the end of turn 2 you have a 3/2 mana wyrm, a tar creeper, a 2 cost elemental, and the opponent with an empty board. That's going first so no coin for added fun.
That's WITH the suggested "Keep it 1 mana, make it 2 health" nerf. And note that Scorch means you can't stop it by dropping a regular minion. You LITERALLY have to have a spell to nuke the wyrm or else face a possible board far worse than what zoo can throw at you.
Blizzard flat out said that they wanted to give mage cheap spells and couldn't because Wyrm sat at 1 mana. THIS is what they were looking at when they made the nerf.
So no, no Wyrm at 1 mana. DEFINITELY no Elemental Wyrm with Evocation an Scorch being things.
Very well said. I was wanting to reply with my examples of nerfs which did utterly and needlessly decimate the card (the primary example being Warsong Commander of course), but actually they wouldn't really impact your point, and actually I agree with you.
Another example of a "nerf-hammer" victim was Corridor Creeper, and that sees regular play in the current meta in odd paladin and in evolve shaman.

Good point, knife juggler also still sees plenty of play.
The Elemental tag would be nice, and may even make it playable. Some people thought Mana Wyrm was overlooked when Elemental tags were added to old cards.
I can get behind Blizzard's "no 1 mana snowballer" policy. Many of us have been saying it's dumb for years. However, I think Mana Wyrm (like Fiery War Axe), was a special card that was needed to cover class weaknesses and enable aggro archtypes they otherwise don't have. I also would have moved it to 2 health to keep these archtypes alive. We saw that the Fiery War Axe nerf killed tempo/aggro Warrior in standard. Sometimes a class needs an exceptional card, and trying to fairly balance everything kills more archtypes than its worth.
No because it's a broken snow ball card that shouldn't exist in modern hs.
Undertaker and trogg should serve as other lessons why this type of card design is lazy and bad for the game
But it does still exist in the game though. I'm not saying to make it 1 mana again and give it elemental. I'm saying just give it the elemental tag at 2 mana. It's not seeing any play right now, only in some cases where returning players forgot to remove it from their decks

I would say ok except Mage just got that 0 mana spell to fast track an elemental. Thus Elemental Mana Wyrm would be a 0 mana Mana Wyrm that you can couple with 1 mana 4 damage to a minion.
Rumble is exactly the expansion that would've made mana wyrm a "nuke it from orbit" situation. Knowing what I know now, the biggest issue to meis that they should've did the Auctioneer thing and present the nerf NOW to go in with the new expansion, not with the last nerf patch.

A great suggestion would always be to make have 2 health. And yes mage lacks early game minions and unfortunately they ain't getting somewhere soon.
I don't want to see the card ever again tbh.. Not a bad idea tho
Lets make servant of kalimos weaker!!

Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.
Mana Wyrm could definitely pass as an elemental, but at the same time I wish for that card to stay in the deepest pits of hell where it belongs

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I can handle all kinds of aggro but theres something enfuriating in aggro mage that i dont understand why so pls no more
They nerfed mana worm so they can actualy print out more cheap spells. At least i think.
I believe that's just their stock-excuse for the usual over-nerfing.^^
Honestly I think mage needs to get some very fast and good tools to make up for the nerf in tempo and aggro mage.

It could be, but you could also look at the mage spells released for the next expansion and notice that maybe that's not just a casual excuse

100 armor druid seems fair comparing to a vanilla card, right?
