Shaman was the first class I really got into in beta. It's gone up and down the past few years but was in a particularly bad place right now due to the jumbled ideas of failed class identity the last few expansions. Freeze shaman had no support to make it work, evolve shaman was viable but a RNG crap shoot, elementals were outclassed by mage and even priest or paladin, and now what do they go with?
Meme spells. Runespear was pretty much a failure all around. People didn't really like it and it showcased how weak many of the shaman spells were, and that had discover. The big hero reveal is even worse RNG and the minion seems to show that Blizzard wants to make a thing out of this. Sadly without a shuffle of the core set of spells these sort of cards are just plain bad. The only viable deck (evolve) is going away and we're left with pretty much a mess.
Outside of Even Shaman, there doesn't seem to be any hope on the horizon. A little sad about today's reveal.
Shaman is one of the last classes I still need to gold, so I'm holding out hope that the rotation of cards out leaves other classes weak enough that control shaman has a place.
There's still a lot of Shaman cards to be revealed. Hopefully the devs remember from pre- Old Gods that Shaman needs a ton of help at the start of every standard year because their evergreen set is so weak. It's too early to call at this point.
I'm fucking tired of people giving opinions about the next meta without knowing all the cards that are coming. Really, a LOT of cards are not revealed yet.
Plus, Blizzard usually give broken cards to dead classes. Just wait a while.
Idk man I came to this game in old Gods and immediatly gravitated to shaman. I have almost double the wins in shaman as compared to my next most played class, Hunter. It's been super sucky that both of these classes are not supported ATM (although I have enjoyed secret Hunter), and doubly sucky that my most hated class (priest) and second most hated (paladin) with their dirty cheaty cards are at or near the top. I mostly have played burn/secret mage this expansion but finally broke down last month and crafted tarim to join the dirty paladin horde. I don't know I think I may just have to give up on my favorite class because blizzard does not seem to know what to do with it.
Im really, REALLY hoping for something good for Shaman this expansion. I wish they gave Shaman a way to cheat things out last expansion like Warlock so the downside of the good cards wouldn't happen, or at least give Shaman something that doesn't deal in so much RNG. I hope they give more powerful spells this time. Something in line with 8 or 10 mana cards, or maybe low cost ones that have a power similar to CtA. Otherwise, Hagatha and the frog probably won't see much play.
Plus, I don't think they've explored Overload as much as they could. I've always thought something that costs 10 mana and overloads 10 would be a really cool thing. Something so powerful it requires an two entire turns for the enemy to come back. I hope we see more things in line with that this expansion, instead of more RNG bs.
After shamanstone i'm totally fine with them being meme tier class. Troggzor... Troggzor.. Buoooo...., buoo. GG. Still having a nightmares, along with WHO AM I? NONE OF YOUR BUISNESS.
Why don't you play wild? Some Evolve Shammy variations works really nice. No, i didn't reach legend with it since i have no time to play that much, but it deals ok with meta decks (cubelock, big priest, dude paladin).
People are too mean to the Runespear. Can you imagine the pressure of having to perform being the highest cost legendary weapon in the game (tied with warrior, but his weapon doesn't get nearly as much hate) while people keep telling you you suck? He does his best to give you the spells you want, but all he gets is hate. Maybe if we were a little more supportive he'd "get it up", so to speak, more often. Ever think of that?
Anyway I am going to keep supporting him and play him in my jade deck with hagatha jammed in and I don't even care if it's good or not, I stick with my friends.
There is a sad truth about constructed card games that we all need to learn to deal with:
People net deck which is super fair because people can play whatever they want. But it creates a situation where if one deck is 5 % better than the rest, then most people will start playing that deck. From this derives a situation where another deck can also be 5 % worse than the other and suddenly people will stop playing that deck.
This means..in Hearthstone..that the meta will always be a few best decks. Sometimes 1, 2, 3 or 4 best decks. And the rest will be considered ‘shit’ in comparison even though they are only a few %’s worse. We call those decks ‘fail’ and we call the 5 % better decks ‘cancer’ and neither is fair to Blizzard because they managed to create these cards that have an almost even win-rate but the player base want to play the best decks, naturally.
Anyway I am going to keep supporting him and play him in my jade deck with hagatha jammed in and I don't even care if it's good or not, I stick with my friends.
It's stupid to base your quess on 3 cards revealed but on the other hand the last 3 expansions gave us basicly nothing. Only working (atleast considered by community, which of course is pretty much bs) deck is a deck that abuses combo of neutral card + evolve. To be honest I wish shaman gets some strong cards but I really want them to not overbuff shaman. Midrange era showed it, people just netdeck and then class that has had really bad decks through the whole game gets labelled as "worst deck in hs" and "class that does belong to the dumpster for the rest of the game".
TL;DR; Don't assume the fate of class by 3 cards and blizz tends to overbuff classes for couple expansions in a row ( priest and now warlock ). Most likely its hunters / warriors / shamans turn next 3.
Being the wild player I am, printing strong cards in shaman is scary. Because of year of the shaman, cards like tunnel trog, totem golem, crackle, and flamewreathed faceless are just ready to go build an aggro shaman with. I agree that they are in a terrible spot right now, but the reason they are hesitant is likely fear of messing it up like they did in 2016, as well as fear of aggro domination in wild. The class needs help for sure, but the way I see it is that they can’t print any strong cards that are even remotely playable in an aggro deck without wild getting messy. They have had to do that since whispers came out, and you can tell that they have micromanaged shaman a lot in the last few years. The jade cards are probably the last objectively good cards they got, and it was due to its flexibility. I loved playing meme shaman back in the day, and I got golden with it during a wild meta where control shaman was tier 1, but I have zero interest in dying on turn 4 to a consistent nut draw. It’s just biding it’s time, and if they print any strong cards that can fit in the deck, aggro shaman will gladly dump on the meta
I actually think that this expansion will not bring shaman back to Meta, but the next one can make the difference. The number of cards that shaman lost in the rotation is just too high to recover from this in only one expansion

Apparently the only thing they can think of to support Shaman with are completely busted aggro cards (Tunnel Trogg, Totem Golem...). Otherwise the class is full of half-assed archetypes, a crap core set and a bunch of RNG. Hagatha the Witch is just another prime example as it contradicts itself. You don't wanna play this in an aggressive deck (e.g. Unite the Murlocs) since you'd be likely to blow up your own board, also by turn 8 the game is already either won or lost. Control Shaman (as if there was anything remotely viable) would run only a few good minions so the reward would be too low. Only a minion-heavy Midrange approach such as the current Jade Elemental Shaman could be an option but the deck will lose a lot of good cards (Jade Claws, Jade Lightning, Jade Spirit, Aya Blackpaw, Maelstrom Portal, Devolve).

Enjoy Year of the Raven <3
Well we saw only 3 shaman cards out of 10 so.. I won't be so quick to dismiss shaman

Surprise!
i think that hagatha is enough to carry shaman, hopefully some solid spells come out in this/ coming expansions
