To be fair, MSOG meta wasn't exactly great either. It was basically a pure Rock-Paper-Scissor meta where Pirate Warrior was the rock, anti aggro decks like Reno Mage and Taunt Warrior were the paper and anti control decks like Jade Druid and Reno Lock were the scissors. Literally every game you queued into felt either 90% favored or unfavored, which is not what I would classify as a fun Hearthstone experience.
I realize tempo mage and zoo might be annoying decks to play against at times(especially tempo mage) but they are two of the few decks in Hearthstone where your overall match ups aren't really skewed to either end(as in, win percentages against everything are usually in the 40-60 interval). This means actually winning games depends more on player input and less on what you are playing against, which I wpuld argue makes for more interesting games. Plus they are both very versatile decks that can win via rushing down the opponent, curving out, and outvalueing them, so you need to approach each game differently depending on your hand and situation.
There are obviously more decks like this, but Tempo Mage and Zoo are overall the most obvious ones to me.
IKR, I played tournaments back in MSOG and Karazan. Lots of one-sided games where you picked wrong deck (you forgot Freezemage btw, it totally goes into description of rock-paper-scissors).
BUT, it was better than "Everybody plays *classname* because he has S-tier deck". When you have Rock-Paper-Scissors, you can at least tech for wrong matchups, think about "should I bring a wall of same-style decks into a Conquest tournament?".
Thing about rock-paper-scissors is that it had not a single deck for "rock" archetype, and not a single deck for "scissors" archetype. Sure, ones were better than others, but.. It's a diversity. And diversity is what really makes meta good.
I personally like it when decks are favored against others, but not to a ridiculous extent. It's one thing for control warrior to be favored against like zoo by 60-40 but still have a chance to lose if the zoo player knows what he is doing(in that particular amtch up it's mostly a balancing act of playing enough minions to pressure the warrior, but not enough minions that you just lose to brawl, unless you literally can't play around brawl in that scenario, meaning you have to go all in) and just draws well.
It's a completely different scenario when you queue up control warrior and get match'ed up against Jade Druid and the game just feels almost pointless from turn one.
But yeah, I'm not saying MSOG was the worse meta in HS history(it's probably not even in the top 3), I was just saying I didn't find it particularly fun either. But compared to like the TGT(Secret paladin in over 50% of games) or Naxx(Undertaker in over 80% of games, with 50% of those being hunter) meta, it was still wonderful to play in.
Current meta might not be the best but it far from the worst... Leeroy meta, combo druid, undertaker hunter, face meta (hunter and eboladin), secret paladin was waaaay worse.
team 5 is fail terribly at design a good BALANCE card is this expansion you print useless card. people jokes on you at you and that's all. You print overpower card. people excite and admire you at first. then they start to cry because they see them OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again so boring to play around bonemare every fucking game.
High roll decks seems to be the worst part of current meta. Barnes priest is extremely unfair sometimes. Same with rogue. Keleseth into shadowstep is just a pure bullshit
Razakus priest is annoying but i have over 50% winratio against them and it's not significantly OP. Same with jade druid. Quest mage is too easy to counter so you have to be unlucky to face them constantly if your deck is not favoured.
I remember huntertaker, secret paladin and midrange shaman metas. Quest rogue was really annoying too. If you compare current meta to mentioned ones you can realize that current one is pretty ok.
No, it's awful but HS has seen some horrible metas. Combo druid, secret paladin, aggro shaman, midrange shaman etc......
My heart says yes, but my brain says no.
Yes, the top three worst meta was secret paladin, aggro shaman and pirate warrior, the current one looks cute compared to these ones.
I mean come on you gotta give some credit to Deathrattle Hunter which was, by far, the deck that made people concede the fastest. Not even Pirate Warrior would be able to keep up with that damage. Also I think the best deck ever was Patron Warrior but if you're talking suppressive then Pirate Warrior, Deathrattle Hunter and Aggro Shaman has gotta be the worst three because they ended the game 'before it began'.
did you mean Undertaker Hunter before the nerf to Undertaker?

It is getting's terrible, i just sat down to have a quick shit and open a game of hearthstone, full muligan as token shaman, still no 1 drop, fair enough. Turn 2 for him, prince kelaseth -> shadowstep -> prince. Followed by 3/3 swashburglar and 3/3 patches turn 3 etc, its just pointless carrying on at that point.
The high rolling is making the game worse and worse, you don't even feel like decisions mean anything. Taking all skill out the game and just making it about playing 52-53% win rate decks and just grinding them for 100s of games is just tedious.
The only thing its done is stop me preordering anymore or paying at all. Blizzard are catering to low IQ players that need to feel they are good by having 50%+ win rate playing curvestone/high roll rather than allowing clever play/baiting, general game interaction. It becomes a meta of rushing down wins as soon as possible ending turn 4/5 just to play another rush game.
Yes, they are making their game for everyone, exactly how it's advertised on their website. I don't see anything wrong in following their purpose.
Bro atleast there are different decks to play. Lemme just throw out some 1 deck metas. Undertaker hunter in Naxx, Patron warrior during BRM and Secret paladin during TGT. This meta is fine compared to what it use to be. Sure its not Vanilla or Ungoro meta but its still ok.
This is one of the better metas.... a wide variety of decks all viable, class identities, strong neutral minions and a strongly-shifting meta. No deck has ruled more than about 6 weeks... this meta gets a thumbs up from me!
I certainly wouldn't consider him a "problem" in the world. :-P
Things in a meta that different chunks of players hate:
1. Uninteractive Solitaire decks (Razakus priest, quest & freeze mage)
2. Early turn cards that, if not answered, make the result a foregone conclusion in the first couple of turns (pre-nerf Small-time Buccaneer)
3. High roll decks (Big Priest, the whole steal mechanic)
4. Straight up broken cards (Spreading Plague, etc.)
Every new expansion is going to have some combination of these, but KFT has 3 of 4. To my taste, KFT is across the board inferior to Un'Goro.
Current meta might not be the best but it far from the worst... Leeroy meta, combo druid, undertaker hunter, face meta (hunter and eboladin), secret paladin was waaaay worse.
keleseth is a high roll card
along with Raza
It's not RNG you can control (unlike "do something to a random minion" for example)
just draw or not draw.
apart from that
consider Fire Fly I think it's very good design card
good card not just playable but not broken
now look at Bonemare , Cobalt Scalebane, Saronite Chaingang
Which are clearly a Powercreep
good by itself no need to build deck around it

The worst game ever, not the worst meta ever.
Piece of unbalanced crap.
How did you calculate that 22% mulligan? Perhaps it is 1 / 30 + (1 / 29) * (29 / 30) + (1 / 28) * (28 / 30) = 0.1 .... (without the coin 10%).
Worst? No. Most limiting in terms of progression and creativity? Yes. The meta right now is brutally punishing.
