It's more a card you use if you run out of other stuff to play or if you really need the AoE/Armour. If you play a Midrange deathrattle deck with Bonemares you should do fine. Bearshark is surprisingly powerful especially when you combo with Bonemare/Houndmaster. I find running Hunter's Mark + Toxic Arrow better as removal helps the deck a lot, the Toxic Arrow is more flexible than either Deadly Shot or Hunters Mark. Stitched Tracker is a nice addition that can give you specific minions for later in the game also.
Like you've said, hunter lacks removal tools (especially in the form of AoE) and comeback mechanics such as healing. Apart from the lucky Misha Hunter's don't even have playable taunt. I've always been annoyed by Blizzard trying to push a control hunter but Deathstalker Rexxar is a ton of fun indeed :)
I think part of Raxxar's problem is people lock him into a certain play style. His biggest issue is card draw but I think if you added that it would just make aggro hunter more annoying and do nothing to push any sort of control hunter style. Same with any sort of removal. Hunters already have pretty good area options (Explosive trap is ridiculous). I think bloatbat is slightly under rated as well. Their minion removal is great early game and deadly shot is stupidly good any time there's 1 or 2 big threats on the field. Hate that damn card. I've avoided playing that class like the plague though.
Mass AoE unconditional removal, aka Twisting Nether, Brawl, Equity combo, Lightbomb. Notice that although have Dragonfire potion, Control Priest never be as strong in Wild because its still inferor to Lightbomb. Control Mage is weak to boardspam too, if there is no ice block and crazy burn spell, no body will play Control mage.
The second thing Hunter lacks is heal. Class with zillion kinds if heal like Paladin and priest sometimes still dead in turn 5 . Hunter need to have some kind of heal if the class want to play Control style, aka comeback in mid late game.
Card draw is not that an issue. Most control deck draw very litte now. Mostly use Discover effect, which Hunter also have this expansion.
i've been playing deathstalker mid-range and it's really fun, i'm at rank 9 and use deathstalker as a tool for if my games go on a little long vs control. Having an endless amount of poisonous zombeasts works pretty well actually.

Bearshark is somewhat on the edge of playable/not imo. I mean, 3-mana spot in hunter is kinda crowded. (I found one deck run 12 3-mana tho, I think it's Jab's Bonemare). I agreed that it's great with Houndmaster (imagine if it's 3/4 instead of 4/3, even better!), but less realistic with Bonemare combo.
I left Toxic Arrow unchecked for some reasons. Couldn't imagine the right situation it would be good, though I will try using it since I have 1 lying around.

Agreed with the lacking of card draws, I tried Loot Hoarder and Polluted Hoarder but didn't go very well (well, it's one-for-one, and this is not a combo deck, so, no surprise there). Gud ol' Cult Master is kinda hit-or-miss. 7-mana combo with Unleash the Hounds is... good..., if I can survive on turn 7 against these days aggro...
Bloatbat... is kinda off the radar for me. Haven't tried yet though. 4 mana delay Consecration, with 2/1 body... sounds tough for me, but gotta try out.
good control has : AOE, draw, heal, removal, comeback cards and a hero power that at least to some degree extends the game. Hunter obviously has basically nothing because it lacks too many ingredients to make other ingredients work, thus it is locked into playing curve plays of hard to remove minions like Kindly Grandmother and Rat Pack, because a Hunter without a board is a sad Hunter.
the tools it always had like Explosive Trap, Deadly Shot, Kill Command and Unleash the Hounds can be used defensively, but the thing is that they're very conditional and with a hero power that doesn't support it they often fall flat short of reaching their goal.
what I would like for Hunter is to actually get a huge emphasis on being able to aim his Steady Shot into minions (like the old Sniper card in Wild) for a lot more affordable and synergistic cost (like having a 2/4 taunt beast for 3 that allows aiming the HP, for example) and maybe even limit Hunter's ability to actually just Steady Shot face when doing the aiming thing. I'd throw in some AOE damage, perhaps to non-beasts even (a jungle themed AOE :P) and print more beasts that are defensive. I wouldn't give Hunter healing to leave that a weakness combated by his animal minions, and he would use minion based card draw (like the new cards that tutor minions) to emphasis Rexxar's relationship with wild nature and minion reliance, not just regular card draw to get Bow and Kill Command to just smorc for eternity.
Rexxar needs a complete makeover, otherwise he needs to stay dead. :P
On serious note his dk is quite good,he just isn't meant to be played in every game like the other dks.You put him in a general midface decks that curve on 6.Then when you run out of cards, you decide if you can kill them with steady shots, if yes then you ignore the dk and you push the button,if not you use dk and you never run out threats.
what deathstalker rexxar needs is to be a rogue card, I totally crushed a hunter (after he had played dk rexxar and started getting value off it) with dk rexxar by getting him off of a burgle effect. In rogue dk rexxar would be amazing because you have strong removal and the board clear plus both value and to some degree tempo from the dk would be a perfect fit, fills rogues weaknesses well. Hunter basically needs to get strong ways of killing control minions consistentky, as well as some insane tempo cards to beat aggro.

Just fill your deck with one drops, that is creative deck design, right?
what [card]Deathstalker Rexxar [/card]needs is taunts to survive to play him and survive.
What Rexxar needs is a play book and the cards to run the game plan.. Hunter decks don't have a solid strategy outside "Hope I draw better.". Midrange beast hunter is it's best deck because you can design it to have better draws.
What hunter needs is for the community and the design team to realize that hunter is aggressive because it has no defense. Its only heal is draw are neutrals lie Bloodworm [/card]and [card]Cult Master. Just give it heal, AOE, or Card Draw that face hunter can't use.
I got a lot of laughs out of the card in WIld, honestly it's the better format for cards like this because Blizzard can't design a Standard format worth two shits.
In my honest opinion it needs one or more of the following three changes:
1. A new hero ability power from the start of the game:
(A guarenteed turn 1 Sir Finley Mrrgglton like Quests are guarenteed or simply the option to start the game with a new hero power like they in League of Legends can choose special abilities before the game begins.)
2. Card draw:
(Consistent, strong, high value card draw that is better than Loot Hoarder.)
3. A new meta:
(This is the most likely one to happen although it is in no way guarenteed. This could mean new expansions and therefore new cards and therefore new popular decks or it could simply be the player base choosing to play different decks. Right now I believe the strongest Deathstalker Rexxar deck is a hyper aggro deck with only three expensive cards in the deck: Double Savannah Highmane and DK.)
Hunter needs a meta that suits it once again similar to face hunter meta. While it was cancerous and annoying, Hunter shone and stood for the first time in ages as an actual top tier deck. Secret hunter also did decently but fell off after a while as well. Hunter just needs to have cards that actually suit its faster playstyle rather than mid-late game cards that contradict its hero power especially when zombeast isn't that great either and control hunter never became a proper thing being outclassed too easily.
First of, let's forget there are all those Druids out there,,,
We can't? Oh well... guess we can't do anything about the meta anyway, can we?
Anyway, I just love playing Deathstalker Rexxar. It's as "fun" as I hoped.
I giggled like a 13yo b**ch when Stonetusk Boar + Vicious Fledgling worked.
Unfortunately, overall it does not work out quite well (no surprise there, though).
I tried building my own Deathrattle deck randomly (my skill is miserable),
I tried netd
iecking (didn't find very good ones either). If I understand correctly, with this Deathstalker Rexxar, the deck is kind of late-ish-midrange-y?
It would be way slower than Aggro (druid, pala, pw) to race face.
It gains a lot of value after Zombeast hero power, but not enough to out-value super control (jade, big EZ, Raza, Taunt).
Plus hunter has neither good removal tool (almost, if Deadly Shot counts) nor healing.
Any ideas of what else does Rexxar need, to make it work xD?

Rexxar basically needs everything for any control option: Heal, aoe, target removal, value cards...he has absolutely nothing.
What rexxar actually needs is a rework of the dreaded basic/classic card set.
However i think rexxar is playable in a normal midrange hunter list.

Thanks for feedback :)
Yeah, I think Zombeast is one of few "fun" mechanics Hearthstone does have right now (or ever).
Creative (! unheard keyword in this game), a bit unfair, yet is not completely broken.
Its RNGs are somewhat fun as well, unlike other RNGs.
It would be a shame if it's terrible through its lifetime.
and actually, I just want to have some fun. I don't want it to be broken as hell or something,
not so broken that everyone shout "CANCER" in my face when I play, nor I feel like I need to take a shower after playing.

I just got Rexxar in brawl. Maybe that would be a fun way to play with him and see how he works?

Rexxar needs no one, he hunts alone...
(I had to do this and don't feel remotely sorry. However I wish that your thread will get you meaningful answers).
