Five, 10 or 50 games isn't enough of a sample. We won't know for sure what impact the nerfs had until Vicious syndicate releases their next report. I'm looking forward to it
The point of the nerfs wasn't to get rid of pirate warrior. It was to prevent STB + Patches from showing up in half of your ladder games. I don't mind pirate warrior at all personally, it is a fast deck, but it is also a relatively fair deck. It's not like shaman that can play aggressively, then switch to a value plan, then burn you out from 15 health. Some players like to play aggro, and aggro helps to prevent decks from getting too greedy.
This is the best summary in the thread.
Pirate Warriors have insane damage potential and if you draw no answers they can generate frustrating blowout games. But Pirate Warrior has certain, identifiable weaknesses:
Their weapons, especially Arcanite Reaper, are very weak to removal
They are stopped cold by taunts
Their deck is very low value overall so they will run out of cards rapidly and go into topdeck mode by turn 5-6
Again, none of the counters are 100%. It is, after all, a very good Tier 1 deck. But Aggro Shaman had the same damage potential AND multiple powerful class minions AND higher value AND wasn't countered by weapon removal AND had Maelstrom Portal to counter other aggressive decks AND high spell damage to bypass taunts. It was better than Pirate Warrior in nearly every conceivable way except it was harder to play, which meant it took more practice to get those better results.
So it isn't a failure of the nerfs that Pirate Warrior is still around. It will be a failure of the nerfs if Aggro Shaman is still as successful as it was before.
This is a example of a GOOD nerf. In the past when Blizz nerfed certain cards it absolutely killed certain decks. For example wsg and patron combo. The deck is still playable reducing STB health to one made it fair it is now easier to deal with as alot more options for killing it like arcane explosion mortal coil etc
You like your deck and hate every deck you lose. Very common. But if you look at the meta without prejudices you will see that every meta deck is unbelievable stupid:
Pirate Warrior (SMOrc to the win)
Reno Warlock/Reno Mage (The game is decided by draw not by player skill, even monkey could play Reno T6)
Jade Druid/Mid/Jade Shaman (Just generate bigger and bigger golems and don't care)
Dragon Priest (Just play minions on curve)
Every other deck is a meme deck right now.
^ This guys got a point.

Lot of people don't realise that the nerf wasnt done to stop pirates all together, especially pirate warrior but to stop the pirate package being used in every weapon class which hopefully this has done to an extent.
The problem is patches. Turns out summoning a 1 cost minion which summons a free 1/1 with charge on turn 1 generates a lot of tempo. I rarely criticize Blizzard or the devs, I like hearthstone and I enjoy the game and I am rarely ever salty. But I have to say surely when they tested these cards someone must have realised that Patches and the pirate package in general would provide such a strong opener that can lead to steamrolling opponents and potentially even killing them on turn 4. Small time buccaneer was obnoxious but sometimes I wonder if it would have actually been fine as a 1/2 if Patches was not printed?
Patches the Pirate isn't the problem. He's the one thing that makes Pirate cards finally good. The thing Pirates lacked in the past was early game and board presence, and Patches fixes that problem. Besides, look at all the good Patches has done. Cards like Bloodsail Corsair, Southsea Captain, and hell even Captain Greenskin are now good cards and viable for decks thanks to Patches.
Since STB is nerfed kind of along with the rotation of Reno.. It doesnt really count as nerf. Unless they introduce tons of taunts, the Pirate warrior will continue to roll. Yes, next expansion bring some interesting changes, but the problem is - people only care about wins. They dont give a crap about the intersting quest mechanic etc. They want to win.. And pirate warrior is the one of the fastest options out there.
Don't worry Next Expac will introduce a Greater Power Creep of Cards. And will make games end by turn 2. So you wont have to Worry About Pirate Warrior for to long. Patches the Dinosaur will Reign Supreme soon enough, Kappa.

I get what you are saying Dr scaphandre. Pirate decks have made otherwise obscure pirate cards see play. However the issue I have had with pirate decks is the fact that they can kill you so early. I have lost on turn 4 to a pirate deck and I have lost being grinded out in a long game against a renolock. While both ways of losing can be frustrating, at least against the reno deck I actually felt like I played an actual game and I lost because of a missplay. Against the pirate deck there was literally nothing I could do, I got a bad hand, the other guy had the nuts draw and I literally got faced down by turn 4. I did not feel like I played a game, I was just someone else's punching bag for 4 turns and I can tell you from experience that felt a lot worse than losing in a long game.
Overall I do not have a problem with aggro decks, they keep greedier decks in check and face hunter was actually the very first successful deck I used in hearthstone. I also think its good that pirate cards are actually being played, but I played during the undertaker hunter meta and I think it is always an issue if an aggro deck can kill you within 4 or 5 turns because it may be fun for the aggro player, but it certainly is never fun for the other guy to get their face bashed in with nothing that they could do about it. But that is just my opinion, I think personally that patches is not a good designed card, But I am always happy to agree to disagree and respect other people's opinions.
the idea wasn't to kill Pirate warrior, pirate warrior was already a legend worthy deck before MSg was released, the Idea was to nerf STB to make him more in line with other 1 drops that weren't able to compete with him.
The current iteration of Pirate Warrior is fine and Healthy since stb is a lot easier to kill now,
edit: Also everything of this would have beena voided is Small-Time Buccaneer had been released as a rogue card and Shadow Rager as the neutral it is
all u have to do is play argus and they lose quite simple i went 13-0 yesterday with pw but today everyones playing bullshit zoo with an argus and im losing 75% of my games git good kid
I've said that pirate warrior will still be broken if frothing and winaxe survive the nerf. I expect additional nerfs to PW and possibly shaman shortly after the expansion is out. I expect frothing, winaxe/upgrade and flametongue/hex to get their cost bumped by 1 mana next.
I'm kinda confused why Pirate warrior wasn't popular before MSOG was released. STB and Patches are obnoxious and all but the rest of the deck seems to be aggressive and powerful enough without them. Am I missing something?
Same here, i have no idea why a simple and powerful deck like pirate warrior so unpopular before Gadgetzan, they use so many old cards and STB + Patches just a addition for their power not core cards create the brand new deck like jade druid

Legend with : S65 Freeze Mage, S57 Maly Gonk Druid, S57 "Okay" Shaman, S53 Boom-zooka Hunter, S53 Maly Tog Druid, S52 Wild Tog Druid ft.Blingtron, S50 Quest Rogue, S49 Dead Man's Warrior, S41 Wild Clown Fiesta Druid, S41 Hadronox Jade Druid, S40 Wild OTK Dragon Druid, S35 SMOrc Shaman, S33 Jade Druid, S22 Control Priest, S19 Control Priest

easy to counter when you play mage, druid, rogue etc.
jade deck new god tier. Mid range jade shaman = new king 👑.
just depend what deck you play. You cannot expect greedy deck win vs aggro & mid range deck. You need tech it to counter meta..

The nerf wasn't aiming for pirate warrior. It was aiming for shaman. Blizzard never intended for shaman to be a pirate archetype.

Well Shaman decks got rid of Pirate package after STB nerf. So you can't say nerf didn't do anything.
pirates is better than 30 min control games that decide by kazakus potion RNG. Or double kazakus potion.
