I think the card did not stand the the test of time, the power of cairne comes purely from stats, that's what he is 2 4/5's but clearly the game has changed a lot since the official release of Hearthstone, before the chillwind yeti used to be the best card you could get in arena or constructed and the same goes for Cairne but now stats are not enough (unless it's arena), now we have 4 mana cards like Piloted Shredder and 6 drops like emperor Thaurissan that in theory can kill both 4/5's of cairne and has an extreamly good effect, I think Cairne should be 6 mana 5/6 that spawns a 4/5 when it dies but we all know how Blizzard works so that will never happen. What do you guys think of Cairne ATM?
All I can say is, he has deathrattle synergy and we don't know what will come out in the future that might work with it.
Right now, ya, he's weak and slow... so what. I still don't think an auto-dust unless you are desperate, like have no Dr.Boom or Tirion for your midrange Pally or something. There are worse legendaries.
i wouldnt dust it right away because its still an ok card and can be used in heavy controldecks like reno cw or reno handlock if you dont own better legendaries. but the more cards get released the worst it becomes. we already have our deathrattle adventure with baron rivendare.
Recently his value has slightly increased thanks to Reno in Deathrattle decks because he's not Piloted Sky Golem and Savannah Highmane or even Wobbling Runts. He returned to my Feign Death deck for that reason. And if you're starting out he's still a very solid card. Sadly, however, his overall value has been eclipsed by other cards.
Cairne feels to me like he is in the same place as a lot of legendaries: he's just barely on the cusp of playability. In that sense he's like Deathwing, Sneed's Old Shredder, Troggzor the Earthinator, Hogger, Toshley and King Mukla, just to name a few. All good cards that just don't fit well enough in most current decks.
That cusp of playability actually is a good place for many legendaries to be. It means you don't have to fill your decks with tons of required legendaries, but you have tech options. If one of these legendaries fills a hole in your decks, you can slot it in; which is why all of these cards still see some occasional play.
An essential thing to understand about cards that are 'just stats' is how important the stat distributions are. Chillwind Yeti hasn't just gotten weaker because other cards are better in a vaccuum (although Piloted Shredder certainly is pretty crazy). It has also gotten weaker with the use of of 5/5s like Loatheb, Emperor Thaurissan and Shieldmaiden that contest it well, while 4-health cards that were common have fallen out of favor. Gadgetzan Auctioneer, Azure Drake, Dark Iron Dwarf and Gnomish Inventor all used to be beautifully contested by yeti, but are now hardly ever seen anymore.
Am I predicting that Cairne Bloodhoof will make a major comeback without a stat boost? Probably not. But there will be meta's and decks where he fills that one spot you're missing and he'll be a solid choice. With almost a hundred legendaries out at this point, that's really all you can hope for from most of them, and it still beats out cards like Millhouse Manastorm, Hemet Nesingwary and The Skeleton Knight that are likely never to seen play except in some weird tavern brawl or heroic encounter scenarios.
the problem is the 6 mana slot. its already crowded by so many good legendaries, that i cant see him played with a full collection. a borderline 5 or less drop is way more likely to be played, like feugen and stalagg in recent renodecks. same is true for the other 6-drops lionoffrost mentioned. Sneeds is overcosted by 1 for its stats :(

x400
...is his future.
It's an old topic.

Nightblade Argent Lance Flame Imp
Argent Watchman Argent Squire Frost Giant
Aviana Hogger Snipe Sea Giant
If ur a ladder player autodust & get meta legendaries..
Currently only Lifecoach plays him in Reno Paladin.
But I agree, it would be great if his att +1 to 5. So 6 mana 5/5 that spawn a 4/5 is enough to see him in play.
he will get played in Elise Starseeker decks ;)

I'm pretty sure kolento played him briefly in a rattle rogue deck

Dependable loan sharks since 1960. We sink our teeth into every deal we make.

The only way Cairne Bloodhoof sees play is he was changed to a 5 mana 5/5, that spawned a 5/5. Otherwise, it will never see play (in ladder).
