CW is all but an atuo-loss for Freeze as it is. Putting this card in the deck wont help enough to make a difference. This card will be far from horrible in Tempo though. Hell, Tempo might be the one arch-type where it sees the most success. Just start off by cutting 1x Flamecannon and go from there. I suspect this will be a 2x in most Tempo builds for sure.
I think Forgotten Torch is one of the most looked at cards in LoE because the 2 Fireball that Mage already has deals an already large amount of damage.
That's more than a KO on a full HP hero with just 2 copies of these 3 cards in deck. If you look at Forgotten Torch in comparison with Frostbolt and Fireball it costs the same amount to do the same amount of damage. You just lose out on the freeze effects of Frostbolt
Now, adding even more direct damage punch to Mage would have to have some draw backs. They already have enough utility to deal enough burst damage to somebody given the cards already available before LoE. I think Forgotten Torch was built with the idea in mind that decks that would run Forgotten Torch would already run Frostbolt and Fireball and so they made and balanced the card accordingly. They couldn't just give us more copies of the same cards (Frostbolt [/card]or easy to get [card]Fireball) and so they added the extra mechanic to add some amount of time before your opponent is more or less guaranteed death.
You wouldn't just add Forgotten Torch to a deck without first adding Fireball or Frostbolt would you? They're clearly superior and more consistent in my eyes. It's just an additional twisted version of the two to add to Mage arsenal of removal or face damage.
If any of the data is incorrect please let me know. I just wanted to post this and to see peoples thoughts and opinions on the addition to Mage getting another strong removal/face damage card.
So You're taking an overpriced card at the beginning of the game (when mana crystals are scarce) to add an undercosted fireball to your deck which you *might* draw later in the game (when mana crystals are abundant). I can't see how this is good in any deck not running a fatigue strategy. Also pads out the deck making clutch cards like Alex, Tony, Boom or whatever your win condition is harder to draw. Doubt I'll be adding it to any of my mage decks.
That "value mage" deck Strifecro loves to play can use this card, if can find a slot for it. I dont see mages needing even more burns, but I can be wrong. I will give it a shot, for the potential this card have.
I think this card is an excellent tool for fatigue mage decks we saw pop out shorty during gvg. It adds cards to the deck, and acts as double removal for a deck designed to run the enemy out of threats with milling, removal and duplicating own resources.
^ Gang Up is different because you spend 2 mana and nothing happens ,while for Forgotten Torch you get to deal 3 damage for 3 mana AND then you get a 3 mana Fireball shuffled in your deck that is quite a difference.
this card can actually replace frostbolt or fireball in aggro mage deck.
That's just silly, Frostbolt is more mana efficient and affects the board thru' Freeze while Fireball deals with mid-range threats, while Forgotten Torch only adds redundancy. Maybe you play it in place of Pyroblast and Bloodmage Thalnos in Freezemage or in place of Flamecannon or Arcane Blast in Tempo Mage, but you aren't taking core cards out of the deck for this.
First impression: the card is quite underwhelming. out of the 4 times i used it i only one time drew the second torch, in a game which was already won. In control vs. control matchups it can have potentially great value, the extra card in the deck is quite nice... dont know, against tempo or aggro the card feels bad. Its place has to be in some kind of control or fatigue mage in my opinion, as the value only comes into play when most of the deck is gone... of course sometimes a third fireball would be awesome, but on ladder how often does it happen that both fireballs are used and the game is not decided yet. Lets hope that in the future a control mage will be possible, then the card could shine
I drew the Torch on Mulligan and the second card the turn after....holy moly, that was strong. In the end it's still another cheaper fireball in the deck, before that 3 dmg for 3 mana.
I am absolutely happy with this card.

Great card. Love it. Control mage incomming.

Well played, Ben, well played.

Think.
2x Frostbolt= 6 damage (4 mana total)
2x Fireball= 12 damage (8 mana total)
2x Forgotten Torch= (Card 1)3X2=6. (Card 2) 6x2=12. (Card 1+Card 2) 12+6=18 (12 mana total)
(Frostbolt + Fireball + Forgotten Torch) 6+12+18 = 36 damage

Definitly like it..for my freez mage! Can use to remove minion early and then later to finis with face dmg..
And also good formany decks..
instead of speed, i have played without the LoE cards for a more midrange tempo mage that has done decent.
here's the LoE updated version i m thinking about with forgotten torch.

OUCH!
Overloaders
i think this one would actually see the most play in freeze mage, replacing 1 fireball. definitely giving it a shot in that
also it helps just a little bit not to fatigue yourself too quickly

Freeze Mage Card.

Overrated but may see play in Freeze Mage.
Not at the expense of a Fireball or Frostbolt though! They are miles better than this.
If you preordered the expension, you can play this card already! Will try it out in my grindermage now!
