I want to start experimenting with a Dragon-based control Shaman deck, but I'm missing one or two of the expensive Dragon legendaries that my friends say I might need. The only four legendaries with the Dragon tag that I don't have are Chillmaw, Malygos, Deathwing, and Nozdormu. I have every other Dragon legendary. Problem is, I've barely even got enough dust for one, and if I crafted it, I wouldn't have any leftover dust for the other cards I want for the deck, like Twilight Guardian.
How essential would you guys say that Chillmaw is for Dragon decks? Most Dragon decks do seem to run it, and it's got good value: a 6/6 Taunt with a Hellfire thrown in. Perhaps I don't need the waveclear, being a Shaman and having access to Lightning Storm and all. Regardless, would you guys say that including Chillmaw would be an improvement to any Dragon deck, or perhaps just personal preference?
Every Dragon deck typically likes to have one or two big 9-mana Dragons to sit in their hand so they can proc their Dragon synergy cards. I have Ysera for that, and was also going to include Nefarian, as he seemed like the next best option available to me (over Chromaggus, who has no synergy with any of my cards, and Alexstrasza, who likewise doesn't really work with any strategy I'm going for. There's merit to Onyxia, I suppose, if I wanted to run Bloodlust.) My friends seem to think, however, that it would be better to craft Malygos rather than use Nefarian. Please take into account that this is a pure control deck I'm going for, so I don't plan to be running any kind of Ancestor's Call + Malygos OTK combo. I also want to use my damaging spells to control the board, rather than for face damage. But Malygos could help with both; an eight-damage Lightning Bolt could kill something like a Dr. Boom, or give me that extra push of face damage I need to win the game. What do you guys think?
I won't bother considering Deathwing or Nozdormu, for obvious reasons. So do you guys think that I absolutely need either Chillmaw or Malygos if I want to run a Dragon Shaman deck? That they're a necessity? Or would it be better to craft the less expensive cards I don't have first (the biggest one is Twilight Guardian, but I'm missing a few key Shaman blues too)?
I love Malygos but he doesn't fit for what you are trying to do with this particular deck. I personally don't have Chillmaw but he isn't mandatory in most decks. Oddly enough I happen to really like Deathwing in really slow dragon decks but I can't tell you to craft him over other legendaries that you might be missing. Twilight Guardians are mandatory however. Craft those first and use Ysera and another big finisher and you should have a solid deck.
Chillmaw is pretty good, but none of the rest seem to compliment your deck at all. You are correct that Malygos really has no place in this deck, and I agree that Nefarian is the most important. As for the other cards you need, well if you still need to craft some of the basic cards like Twilight Guardian or the Blackwing guys, just skip Chillmaw for now and get that done.
