On the other side, Imagine getting Tirion, True Silver, Aldor or Consecration.. that would be awesome.
Azure Drake is a 5 mana 4/4 card draw that also has spell damage. Which is flat out better because you're drawing your own cards, it has spell damage, and costs less. Plus the 6 mana slot is incredibly clogged with way better cards already. This card is unplayable in ranked if you're serious about being good at hearthstone.
If you're serious about being good at hearthstone, you know better than claiming " this card or that card is unplayable in ranked" before actually seing it in action or before having a loot at the other cards in the expansion.
I remember when naxx wasn't even out, what people said about sludge belcher. It was really hilarious.
This card gives you a chance at crazy cross class interaction. You can't overlook that fact. Once you loose two or three games against a priest who pulled you a consecration or a warlock with an aldor peacekeeper, you might consider taking your chance too.
The odds of pulling something actually largely impactful (more impactful that Emperor or Syl) with this card are too low to work out better than the other cards mentioned... or you could run azure drake and try to draw out your own answers that are already in your deck if that's our goal. If you're running this card for the 5/64 chance of getting something amazing go play Unstable Portalwith mage, it only costs 2 mana, this costs 6.
It's a good thing that you mention unstable portal, because that's what this card does : give you the chance to get something amazing, even if you don't play mage. Plus unstable portal doesn't cost "only" 2.
Azure drake is good. But it doesn't draw you a weapon if you're a priest. And your comparison has it's limits, because a creature with 4 toughness for 5 and a creature with 5 toughness for 6 aren't the same. Since you're "good at hearthstone" I don't have to explain to you that the difference between 4 and 5 toughness is more than just one point.
Anyways. I believe this card has potential. We'll see soon enough how much action the crusader gets in ranked. I, for one, intend to put it to use.
While you bring up a good point about azure drake not being able to draw priest weapons, you have to realize that if you take out lights justice because it's terrible, there's less than a 10 percent chance of even drawing a weapon with this card. The biggest problem I have with this card by far is the mana cost. Yes, t's a solid card, yes it looks fun, yes it may win you some games, but on the other hand there are way more consistent 6 drops that I can't think of a single deck this would substitute for them.
I don't really understand why this is "being mean to paladins." Isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? How does this affect paladins in any way?
How is there not a poi... wait what?! Are you guys joking me? And here I thought Hearthstone community is good... how can you be complaining and saying Paladin won't have a point to be played because of one neutral which gives a Paladin spell? It's not even... ahh, won't even bother explaining, it's pointless... this is something which shouldn't even have to be explained!
6 mana spot is hard to fit something in. This card is well above average IMO, but that may not be good enough.
Lets look at Pally class cards - How many suck, which are great, etc?
Suck: Eye for an Eye, Repentance, Quartermaster (if not Pally), Cobalt Guardian
Amazing: Tyrion, Lay on Hands
Everything else can be decent-great depending on the situation in the game. I was originally thinking that this was WAY worse than azure drake - but I don't think so now. I can see lots of utility in getting a Pally Card off this guy. Still going to be super hard to make a spot for him, but not a card I will completely dismiss.
Too much RNG. you could get Tirion ofc, but could also get Light's Justice...
They said the same thing about unstable portal. Actually alot of dumb things are said about cards before they are released so many reviews of Dr. Boom saying it was an ok card but nothing spectacular then they released it.....
Truth is nobodys done the odds of getting a great card.
-snip-
Not even mentioned Fordragon ay xd
I forgot Bolvar!!! Thank you. I will add him to the list.
Yeah. Sylvanas. Thaurissan. They're good. Do you know why they're good? Because they do something unique. No other card can do what they do. This is why grand crusader is also interesting.
But they don't do the same thing. Thaurissan borrows you tempo or speeds up your combo. Sylvanas gets you the board. The crusader gives you card advantage and the surprise factor.
You're making one mistake when trying to evaluate that card. You're thinking " why would I put this new card instead of this powerfull card in my handlock/ramp druid/control war/priest deck" picturing the decks already in use in the meta. The meta's gonna change. Some archetype will endure, but you don't just "change one card in a deck for a better one" when an expansion hits. You change several card who have better synergie between them, sometimes creating a whole new deck archetype.
If you want to compare it to piloted sky golem : I'll put the emphasis on the difference between 4 and 5 toughness. Skygolem is too easy to dispose off. In the end, it's only as good as a the 4 drop you get from it. Wich is random. If you run a mech deck, of course, you'll prefer skygolem to grand crusader. Except mech decks are usually too fast to even need six drops in the first place.
Shieldmaiden : that's a good comparison. I think the two cards are pretty equal. Except shieldmaiden will always appear better because it's a class card; played in warrior deck, who use armors. But If you give the choice to a druid between playing a grand crusader or a shieldmaiden... ?
Now, if you compare grand crusader to the new legendary "Nexus Champion Saraad". Everyone's like : nexus champion is a good card! It's legendary, look how shiny.
Except you have to pay 7 to make some ca with it. He's only 4/5 compared to the crusader. He'll be killed first thing, and what he gives you is way more random than getting a paladin card.
Grand crusader doesn't have the ability to snowball if not dealt with in the next turn. But hey. If your opponent doesn't deal immediately with a 5/5 either, he's still in a bit of a pinch.
I understand how expansions work, I've been here through every single other one. Yes new archetypes crop up. Obviously. I just can't think of any kind of synergy this card would have with really anything... its card draw.. a random one.. with really bad options.. If you like this card play Burglein rogue, it's better value and even more random.
Sidenote, I think Shieldmaidenis a terrible comparison to Grand Crusader. Armor gain and card draw aren't even really related mechanics, yes they cost the same with the same stat body but the effects aren't very comparable. I think this card still compares best with Azure Drakeexcept drawing your own cards (in most decks) is better than drawing random cards because every card you cycle through in your own deck you get closer to your win condition, removal, combo, whatever you're looking for.
This is so weird, why are they adding neutrals that give Paladin stuff? First Silver Hand Regent, now this?
It just plays into the conspiracy theory that they'e going to get rid of Paladin. Illuminati confirmed.
Because this is based on the Argent Tournament run by the Argent Crusade which was a neutral faction full of paladins and priests, so, by Blizzard's logic, that must mean that EVERYONE'S A PALADIN NOW!
I once hoped that Hearthstone would be more like MTG with each class having their own unique, cohesive themes and synergies without much overlap or reliance on neutral/shared minions... Sadly, they went the other direction and now most of the stuff one class can do, other classes can do and there's no real rhyme or reason to what your hero summons. So yeah, I guess cards like this are just the logical conclusion to that mindset. Maybe someday we will get a Dalaran-themed expansion with cards that lets everyone have fireball and flamestrike, because fuck logic and coherent organization/divisions and true class uniqueness.
Nice and those odds are pretty decent in my opinion itl be interesting to test if its worth over a Azure drake since its harder to kill. Alot more things do 4 damage than 5. Tho there are some tough competition for the 6 drop slot.
Interestingly enough, if this card were exactly the same as it is now but said "Battlecry: Add a random Warrior card to your hand." there are a lot of decks that I would run it in.
That's just me though. I love cards like Unleash the Hounds and Force of Nature, and since before the Naxxramas expansion I have been fine-tuning a Warrior deck that combines Warsong Commander with cards like I Am Murloc, Onyxia, and Illidan Stormrage to get a lot of those kinds of effects in one deck. I would run this card if it gave Warrior cards just so I could have the chance of pulling off Warsong Commander combos in other decks.

I still think that we will get such cards from all 9 classes. So maybe you can try to play around with that.
Anyway I think, "Random Warrior card" would be one of the worse ones (for non warriors).. There are too many cards which evolve around armor and weapons which are completly useless for most classes. Actually I think that mage would be the most used one.

Who can take your trash out? Stomp it down for you? Shake the plastic bag and do the twisty thingy, too?
VALUE WEAPONS. both of which druid and priests could really dig, blingtron is too risky.

Why does Blizzard HATE Paladin so much??
What did Hearthstone Paladins ever do to Blizzard??

I was hoping Uther would have something he can call his own. And he, and only he, can use it.

This will be used in arena for sure. People who pull Tirion are going to be so happy.

Priest now has an inconsistent, unreliable way of getting Aldor Peacekeeper and Edric the Pure to combo with Cabal Shadow Priest.
Errr, cute, I guess?
Bad players whine.
Good players adapt.

k theyve only reavealed cards that give paladin stuff, but that doesn't mean they don't have cards that give other class stuff.

THIS IS SO STUPID!!!! WHY PALADIN?!?!?!?!?
Why couldn't it be mage, or hunter, or rogue, etc???

Warsong Commander + Muster for Battle? Check. Warsong Commander plus Ball of Spiders? Check. Warsong Commander + Dark Wispers? Check. I would love love love any card that let me put Warsong Commander in other classes. Therefore if this card or a card like it gave Warrior cards, I would run it as the 6-mana spot in a lot of other decks just because I love pulling off those combos.

Still confused on the idea of giving away free Paladin cards from Neutral minions :)
Potato.
So, did somebody tried this card ?
A bonkers card in Arena. I had it in my Druid draft, and managed to get Coghammers and Tirion.
Give a man a Murloc, and he'll eat for a day.
Give him a Murloc Knight, and people will hate him.
