I was in the same predicament as you before. I feel like I could never get out of rank 20-15 and it got pretty frustrating. This was just a few months ago. I've never hit legend but so far my laddering has improved and I'm able to end the season anywhere between Rank 4-6. What helped me the most was consulting various resources (There's no shame in net-decking) as well as watch a lot of Hearthstone streams. Most of the streamers are doing constructed games as opposed to arenas. What I usually do is try and figure out a play during their turn, and then try and see if they would do the same play that I thought of.
I agree it can be annoying for people to rope for no reason. But we just have to accept the fact that he has 75 seconds for his turn and he has the right to utilize it however he wants. Since your only means of communicating with your opponent on Hearthstone is just emotes, some people just use roping to taunt you.
I don't really care much about these ropers though cos I usually have something else in the background running, like YouTube or Imgur w/e. Don't take this game too seriously as Hearthstone is designed to be fun and casual. Opponents like that can be annoying but just brush em off. And don't add them next time, cos it let's them know that their strategy to annoy you is effective.
If you were playing against a druid who managed to pull this off, let's say the god hand of double innervating Astral Communion on turn 1 -- as the opponent how else are you gonna recover? We've already seen some crazy ramp situations like turn 4 Dr. Boom, so realistically this isn't impossible to pull off. There's a possibility people (including myself) might just concede prematurely. Doesn't that make the game less fun?

I agree. Hearthstone already has good and original mechanics without having to knock-off too much from MTG.

Vitality Totem is unhappy cos the only time he gets played is when he gets pooped out by Piloted Shredder. :'(

Thanks to Astral Communion, this card will probably see more play.

Still confused on the idea of giving away free Paladin cards from Neutral minions :)
