Normally, an expensive card with huge stats and no immediate board impact would be unplayable.
BUT ... since the quality of Dragons in this expansion is so bonkers, Alex is very likely to create something fairly impactful, which you can play immediately.
And since this deck will perforce contain Zephrys at the very least, and possibly a powerful Explorer legendary, I'm sure Alex 2.0 will see play.

I'm glad they gave Alex some love, however I'm a little afraid that this card will be OP, since you could get another Alex. I wouldn't be surprised if every control deck goes Highlander.
9 mana 8/8 + 2 Dragons, and possibly with strong battlecries. You can get another Dragonqueen if you are really lucky. It's gonna make for a strong board, and you can get some fantastic outcomes, sure, but not really on the level of what "Reno"-effects usually do. It's kind of like Krul the Unshackled, probably a bit better since it consumes less resources and some of the dragons will provide you with much more than just stats. It could also be compared to Onyxia. While you WILL get better stats out of it, I still wonder if the end result is really so much better. Like, is it better than other lategame board fillers like King Phaoris or Chef Nomi and how many of those would you even want to use?
It's not "weak" or "bad" by any means, and probably good enough for most Standard highlander decks, and maybe I'm understimating it, but I kinda feel like it's not gonna show up in Wild decks and might also not be included in some Standard lists. Paying 9 mana just for stats and a diceroll... I don't know. I'm not really excited. But maybe I'm completely wrong. After all, the number of Dragons (especially in Standard) is fairly limited and most of them would be pretty impactful.
Wondering if my beloved Zephyr Thief deck will like this. Pretty risky if not enough class cards to boost my Tess. But yeah. What a pile of stats. Even if you lowroll Fairy and Brightwing, that's 14/12 in stats for 9 add a random legendary to your hand. Still a decent play if not behind.
I heard someone make the argument that this set would push out highlander decks because all the new cards are so insane that you basically have to run two of them. It seems like the devs anticipated those concerns and that why we have this. This is a good dragon.
I honestly find these highlander cards boring. It removes the skill involved in deck building because they're so incredibly powerful, that you just slot them into a highlander deck without any thought.
If you want to build a highlander deck, you're going to need this card. A 9 mana 8/8 that gives you 2 dragons that you can immediately throw down onto the board is just too much tempo and it gets even crazier if it gives you another Dragonqueen.
If they would tone down the power level of these highlander cards instead of making them all auto-includes, it would make the archetype more interesting since you would have to actually think whether or not to include them.
Random dragon means you can't just pick what you want...but also means you get class dragons too which may just be enough to push the card higher than ever.
This particular expansion introduce a lot of dragon that people would love to have

I dont think it's SPECIFICALLY the power level of the highlander cards, as much as it is the general swiss-army-knife usage of them. If we had a highlander card that was specific for aggro, and one that specifically helped mechs, and so on and so fourth, they wouldn't all be auto includes. Sadly though, with how it is now, they're all just generally good cards with good generic uses.

If the Highlander cards weren't sufficiently powerful, they wouldn't justify the downside of filling your deck with one-offs, though.

It will depend on the final Dragon list...
As simple as that.
Most of the Dragons are amazing and you can always discover a copy of a Dragon so hopefully you land on this! Love it well done Blizzard!

You read the card? What part they cost 0 you don't understand?
8/8, 3/2 and 4/8 taunt for 9 manas is fantastic.
In a vacuum I don't think this would be enough to justify a highlander deck, but with the hero class cards and Zephrys, this will be a good addition.
Ehh... I guess?

The variance on this card...

If you were going to run a dragon highlander build, you'd run this too. Not strong enough to warrant highlander on its own though, imo.
Awesome art, though. Worth getting in gold.

Balanced by the fact that there's a shit ton of filler cards with the dragon tag in this expansion.
Release the Kraken!
filler card are not bad if you play them for free.
