Mhmm ok, so the first thing which comes through my mind is Evolved Kobold. This minion saw a lot of play in the past, because it enabled a lot of burst combos in freeze mage. Since Emperor Thaurissan is wild only and there aren't any other mana reducing cards in standard, I think that combo decks will hardly include it.
Since it has some nice stats and it's an elemental, I think in theory this can be included in a tempo deck with a fair amount of (cheap) burn. I doubt that the devs will implement something similar to Ice Lance in the nearest future, but the stats aren't bad to make the cut.
Dunno why, but the following combo comes through my mind:
Am I the only one who dislikes this card? Basically any minion with low stat (due to their ability being added) won’t see much play, just a mere 3 mana body on the board, I can’t be positive about this card and spell damage archetype, but at least the ideas about this archetype is pretty cool. Hope there would a cool spells!
Tell that to Dragonhatcher. There are plenty more examples but this one is definitely the most extreme.
For a common it's ok. A bit of a soft taunt. With the good old Kobold, you could decide to take a chance and let it live (and be hit for only 2 by the minion itself). But with this guy, you almost have to get rid of it rid away. The chance of having some good spells coming next turn are still there, but if you decide to let it live for some reason, you're getting hit for 4 by the minion. And sure enough, the Elemental tag is great too.
While this card is powercreep on Evolved Kobold, I think in this case it's good powercreep because that card isn't played. If you have an effect that is clearly over-costed then I think it's ok to increase the power or decrease the cost to see if it starts making it into peoples decks.
If Evolved Kobold didnt see any busted combo, this wont be any difference in a comboing perspective.
but evolved kobold did see really busted combos in freeze mage with Ice Lance and cheap face damage spells, the thing is that lance is in wild now, and even then 2 spell damage is tremendously strong.

Evolved Kobold has successfully been used to climb to Rank 1 Legend in Wild. I use a similar list for my Freeze Mage and it's hella fun. Even though it's a rare case, this card can be replaced to compete with more aggressive decks. Hell of a powercreep
Tempo mages are all about Aluneth turns... In that context, 4 mana might be a bit on the expensive side, but the 4/6 extra face damage it will give you, or the board clear it will facilitate with Shooting Star/Shooting Star/Cinderstorm is often all you need to win the game (unless of course, you are facing a Druid).
Played the hell out of Evolved Kobold in freeze mage, a straight updgrade should find some use in standard, even without Emperor Thaurissan and Ice Lance around. Maybe more as a board clear card. Maybe they will add some mage burn as well, it has been a while since the last good one.
Only thing holding this card back is the fact that right now in heavily elemental decks you don't necessarily want to run too many spells - so will depend on the meta to an extent. Other than that, this looks like a very strong card.
God this is a good card. Compare Frigid Snowbold; While this is aggressively statted and thus less prone to surviving a turn, it's got twice the attack and only 1 less health for double the spell damage, and the Elemental tag. This seems crazy good just as a general utility card for Mage, and especially good for Elemental mage.
Obviously a powerful card, I just feel it's a bit generic. Still though, I'm sure we'll be seeing it in a deck or two.

Dunno why, but the following combo comes through my mind:
- 2x Sorcerer's Apprentice
- 1x Cosmic Anomaly
- 2x Frostbolt
- 2x Cinderstorm
Which can potentially turn into 24 damage burst. I know this sounds very clunky, but it's just a thought.

it actually has seen some play when ice lance was around
It saw play in Freeze Mage. This might too, only if Ice Block wasn't rotated out
RIP Evolved Kobold

Even Elemental Mage will be a thing now. Wish i had the collection to try it out.
I think this is very strong because of the Elemental Tag. That means it can be discovered by other classes too if they run the 5 drop elemental card.
This also means that Rogue or Priest can get a copy as well if they play any of those steal/copy cards
I also think burn mage can simply end games with this and might replace the secret package.

good spell damage minion, much better upgrade of evolved kobold and this also has the elemental tag. lol
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
this isnt powercreep on kobold because that was made in conderation of icelance existing

Evolved Kobold did see some play. The fact that this card is so much better than that card makes me think that it will see play at some point.
