Sergeant definitely needed a nerf, but this is arguably the wrong one.
The right nerf was on the bonus given.
With 1/1 +2 it will stay staple in any aggressive deck.
Are you stupid? This just means that Aggro will replace with another card. People thought that leper gnome would still be played but it's dead and now this card will be as well. I can honestly see divine Aggro pally being the Aggro deck of choice or zoo returning now that shaman, hunter, and warriors are now at their weakest.
I might be stupid but you look confused at best...
Well it is obvious with this nerf as well as the others, is they are simply listening to the mobs. Every card they nerfed was one that was complained about a lot in recent months. Instead of utilizing a professional balance team, they just said...you want it!? You got it!? That being said this card is still playable, cause it was its effect that people included it for (like juggler).
Necessary change. The sustain of the 2 attack on the card if you're not playing as rogue, mage or druid is actually rather threatening. I don't even think the condition of needing a minion on board plus it being able to attack isn't a factor as decks that choose to run the card are running very low curve sticky deathrattle minions that it almost always guarantees a target.
The only change I fully and wholeheartedly agree with. I think the change brings it in line with it's big brother Dark Iron, and it still keeps it as an effective buff card. I don't think this will stop the card from being played, but it will also help turn down the power level of aggro.
I don’t think this change will turn down the power level of aggro at all to be honest. Just like with Leper Gnome, if the card is not good enough now because of the nerf, then aggressive decks will just replace the card with another cheap minion. People may just use lance carrier instead since that card gives a permanent +2 attack and it is still cheap enough.
lol why would i play this now? i didn't just play it for the +2, it was also a decent play Turn 1 to be able to trade up. i'm not gonna bother throwing it in any aggro list that needs a fast start, what's the point of playing him? i'll stick with Squire and use Lance Carrier again.

actually you did, this card was meant for zoo lock to cash tokens in, it was not meant for any scrub face deck to have a 2 of in
The Hearthstone community is always fun. First they say, "Blizzard's such a dumbass, they nerf things to oblivion!" and now it's "What? People are STILL going to play this card, needs a bigger nerf!"
I think making it a 1/1 is fair enough. The problem with pre-nerf Abusive Sergeant was that not only did he allow your other minions to hit harder, the Sergeant himself was a 2-attack minion that needed to be dealt with. A 1/1 is considerably weaker.
I never understood why they did only nerf Leper Gnome an not Abusive Sergeant because the effects are pretty similiar. The only downside of Abusive Sergeant is that you need a minion on the board, what is almost always the case in aggressive decks.
I play a lot of zoo (as you can see I got a golden warlock) and I am actually happy with this change just because it deserves it it's a broken card now you need to be a token deck to put this in.. I think no deck that played it will take it away.. but anyway I got 8 copies of it :D (240 dust since I keep 2 copies)
The problem was the value of the "+2 attack", not the stats. Missed shot. But maybe enough for see it go away.
Not really, the nerf is really good, i have seen many times aggro decks playing this on T1, if you can't remove it it's still 4 damage guaranteed for 1 mana, which is huge for face decks.
Well, I always tried to see Abusive Sergeant as a "turn 2+" play and only focused on effect. Definitely will keep using him since I've got two golden copies of it (not sure if I should d/e them)
Because divine shield paladin is running rampant and is tier 1 right?
Even though it is a nerf to them, it's not that big of a nerf. Bigger nerf would've been 1/2 with +1 attack for the turn since he wouldn't even get the divine shield buff anymore.
The dream still exists if you buff an argent squire.
just like in the case of leper gnome, should have nerfed the 'ability' instead of the body. just another blizz fuckup.

Very good change. I was hoping for pretty much exactly this.

i think nobody really care about his stats (except zoo) so nothing much happen ,still good

If you got the coin, the Mercenaries get going. Vote for The Mercenary for CCC #3.

Ninja nerf to Divine Shield Paladin! THANK YOU BLIZZARD!

I don't love it or hate it. I ALWAYS used it for the +2 buff not the 2/1 body. I'm fine with the change.
That 1 attack is actually a pretty big deal, it is no longer a threat, can't trade vs shit and is out as a turn 1 play. Will he be out of the meta?
