I always thought that it is impossible to play against someone who is already in your friend list until TODAY:
It is so weird, at first when I saw the opponent's nick name and I double check on my friendlist he is online, just in a weird greyed out icon mode where you would normally click to issue challenge or spectatle. So I thought may be someone with the same nickname with different ID at the end so I continued playing until the end.
After the match I checked the ID through HDT and it is the same ID. After his run, we chat and he then realized too that we were already friend.
Has it happened before to anyone? I searched but it seems like no one encountered this before.
It can happen to anyone as long as you have the same win/lose ratio during your arena run.
I have recently done the same with my friend when we were both at 10:2. We started the search for opponent at the same time and got matched together.
He got better rewards for 10 wins than I got for 12...
I thought for sure Blizz would do some kind of prevention against that so you cannot abuse or cheat the system. Imagine both of you at 10:0, you could do that and give each other a win to get to 11:1, and then give one player a guarantee 12:1 for example.
My friend who I matched went ahead and finish 12:1 and got Jaina the dragonhawk from his arena pack, a little jeolous (cause I already got Jaina). I play slow so I haven't finished mine yet, hope to be able to match him.

You rly cant abuse the system like that in a long term, not only will you not be able to get such high amount of wins consistently, the lower your win count, the harder will it be to match with each other and even a single loss will make it harder (more so in higher wins).
It just takes so much extra effort for so little reward, doubt blizzard even cares. And there is no real way to cheat the system to get good results, you would need dedicated "sniper" guild that would actually give you wins and who is gonna dedicate time and potentially money to do that? just buy a few packs instead and its cheaper time/money wise anyway. So yeah :)

I randomly got matched up against someone on my friend list at rank 17 in Wild. We didn't plan anything; it was a complete fluke.
