I have also found that one benefit of not playing aggro shaman is that everyone assumes that you are aggro shaman and plays the first few cards and mullys for that.
Perhaps I will stick with bloodlust shaman and then if I go to the dark side Ill hit up aggro shaman
It's just depressing like that. I used to love shaman; hit gold with it before I even got any other class to 60; but it's just unplayable right now. Not in the ways that make it fun to play shaman, anyway. And it's a pity. With the addition of Brann Bronzebeard, battlecry shaman could be the flashiest, most creative deck in the game: think double Crazed Alchemisting something next to a Flametongue Totem, which basically buffs it +2/+2, or the obscure card Master of Ceremonies which you could double-proc to an 8/6 for (3) with just a token totem... sadly, right now there's just no way to establish board before you can pull off any of that.
I have always made at least rank 5 every season with midrange decks, especially Shaman. You can replace Al'Akir the Windlord with Ragnaros the Firelord. I generally use a variant similar to this with some changes based on meta, feel free to ask me anything about it if you want.
There is exactly one competitive Shaman deck right now. If you insist on avoiding aggro, play a different class.
+1
I'd say:
If you want to have success: burst Shaman is pretty good (rapes Secret Paladin quite consistently), you'll get to rank 5 in no time and can make it to legend with some grind. If you face turn 6 Reno after turn 6 Reno after turn 6 Reno just take a break.
If you want to have fun:Ancestor's Call Malygos is cool and basically no one will expect it.
I went ahead and rolled Smorc Shaman and it has been ok. The last two matches where painful since, no exaggeration, I got to turn 5 with a leper gnome and ONLY spells being drawn...wtf? But when you get normal draws it can be really powerful and you just hope to finsh them before you run out of steam.... mostly I probably just need to get used to such an aggressive deck.
I think I still prefer midrange, so I will also check out Gromnk and Koala's decks (though I sadly dont have Rag either)
The problem I see with your variant is 2x Earth Shock and Lava Shock. Too much small psuedo "removal" spells without the card draw or spell power to back it up. I really do recommend some kind of swarm card or at least sticky minion like Haunted Creeper to get the true value out of Flametongue Totem. BGH seems a little much with 2x Hex imo but it would help in Renolock match ups. But your version could probably play differently than mine and do fine, this just what I feel could hold it back since Shaman is reliant on value trades and cards.
Al'Akir the Windlord can be replaced with a 2nd Doomhammer or at least something with immediate impact on the board. Basically anything with at least a decent presence or finisher. Replace it with anything that you think will help you fight against the popular decks in the meta.

I always try to ladder with shaman and always just end up depressed.......
It just feels like it gets out gunned by every other class out there, are there any decks I should be using?
So far I have resisted playing aggro sham since I am not a huge fan of smorcing, and I have been running either midrange totem or bloodlust
I unfortunately dont have Al'akir or Nep, but I do have Misty..
I would prefer a more midrangy deck, anyone have one that has been working well for them?
Should I just bite the bullet and go aggro?

Aggro is a top tier deck, it gave me my final push to rank 5 last season.
Currently 15-4 with Bloodlust shaman, bloodlust can steal you a few wins that you would normally lose
Rank 4 Tempo Mage

Basically running the deck below -1 Feral Spirit +1 Tuskaar totemic

This is the deck I used to get to Legend last season, got me from Rank 5 to Legend in only a few days. Hope it can help you as well. :)
