Just wondering which of these two minions people find more effective for buffing your spectral cutlass. Working on a new Thief Rogue deck and having a difficult time deciding between the two.
I've found 2 deadly poisons to be plenty of attack for my cutlass. 6 attack and healing a turn is already hard enough for most decks to deal with, and it can easily be 8-10 with dk Valeera.
2x deadly poison is more than enough, you dont want to stack your deck with shitty cards, if you can avoid it, +1 attack will not mean much, but two extra deck slots will.
Appreciate the feedback. Took both out and created this deck. Attempting to solve the draw issue with the use of Auctioneer so it's somewhat thief rogue and somewhat miracle. Still tweaking the deck and could swap in Sprint or Shiv, or replace Tess with Valeera. I think one AE is more than enough - AE is great in some ways but also dilutes your deck big time. I think the card was \overrated as many ignored this component of the card.
Also find pick pocket to be an overrated card, generally cards that draw cards draw 1 card per 1.5 mana spent. Pick Pocket, is a 1 for 2 cost, which is too high imo. I played Thief rogue a fair bit in Wild and found it works better without Pick Pocket.
I’ve mentionned this in another thread, but the reason AE doesn’t work is the lack of card draw. You need to go with Sprint as your main draw card, not Auctionner. The latter is less consistent once AE is introduced.
AE would be an OP card if the draw issues could be solved. As it is you quickly run out of steam.
Cutlasses don’t cut it either. They need too much support to work and cost too much at 4 mana.
For what it’s worth, my best attempts at the archetype were in a tempo package that didn’t need AE or Tess to win.
If you're running Cavern Shinyfinder, especially if you're running two of them, do you really need two copies of Spectral Cutlass? It's important to find Cutlass early, but how important is it to be able to re-equip it if it gets destroyed? In general it's only control decks that run weapon destruction and versus control decks you're probably better off generating more threats than having more healing.
Razorpetal Lasher might be useful just to provide a cheap spell for Auctioneer or as a combo activator.
Regarding Pick Pocket, it is indeed not very mana efficient. It can be useful though against slow opponents, when you don't care so much about mana efficiency but do care about value generation. It's comparable to Sprint, but doesn't bring you closer to fatigue and it's a bit more flexible. An alternative is Face Collector: while it requires even more mana per card, it does give you 2/2 bodies, so it's not as bad of a play in the early game. With this particular deck though, you probably do want to draw through your deck quickly because of Espionage and Strider, so generating cards instead of drawing is less attractive.
Dane has an interesting Espionage deck for Wild. It gets extreme value from the Auctioneer, because it contains very few minions, so you can draw spell after spell. However, Conceal helps a lot to keep Auctioneer alive into the next turn; in Standard you'll be more reliant on spells you already have in your hand and can play on the same turn as Auctioneer using Preparation.

Toxicologist as it's a battlecry, does not need to be comboed, and it costs less.
Just keep in mind that the more cards you add to buff up Cutlass, the weaker your deck gets.

I think it's better to play one Academic Espionage and one Augmented Elekk instead of 2 copies of Academic Espionage
