This is a rather strange deck I made that I have had moderate success with, although I would like to hear your guys' opinion on whether it is any good. Thoughts?
The reason why the deck has mana wyrm and mirror image in it, other than to improve early game, was that in an earlier version of this deck which was a lot more top heavy I found rhonin to be milling me whenever I play it, so I added some tempo mage element to empty my hand early and refill it later. Arcane intellect is missing for the same reason, I find there to be enough late game and card draw as is.
I would replace some of the clunky/useless elements.
-Acolyte, -Cabalists, -Abomination, -Twilight
+Scarab, +Conjurer, +Tauren, +Flame lance
You're basically dead against Rag into Gromm/Ysera/Cthun with your current list barring insane Cabalists luck. Hence Conjurer and Flame Lance.
If you're only running one Conjurer is far superior to Cabalists. Acolyte is clunky slow card draw when you already have borderline hand sizes whereas Scarab can draw stalls and minions and is surprisingly useful as a token. Abomination weakens your own Nzoth substantially. Twilight is a fine card but if you're going Nzoth Tauren is better. Gives you better odds at a decent Nzoth.
How have you been doing? I'm missing Nzoth, Cairne and Rhonin or I'd try it.

I appreciate the feedback!
I used to play ethereal conjurer in my reno mage deck but didn't like it because 6/3 will almost always trade with a 3 drop or worse, so basically you are discovering a spell for 2 mana which is not good.
scarab is limited to discovering 3 drops which is not incredible in mage. Yes you can discover secrets but those are only situationally useful when you can't get a discount on the cost.
I don't think acolyte of pain and cabalist's tome are too slow especially since this is a control deck. Tempo mage decks can afford to run 2 of each and that is certainly a much faster deck than this.
polymorph (and forbidden flame if need be) is my answer to big minions, plus it's not really insane to get 1 big removal from cabalist's tome since mage is all about removals.
flame lance is a good inclusion; I don't run it simply because of the 30 card limit.
I dislike infested tauren because 2/3 is simply not good stats on turn 4. Against control decks it will sometimes die for free and against aggro it gets run over way too easily. I think it is a much inferior card compared to twiilight drake and water elemental, even with the benefit of it being a deathrattle minion taken into account.
I don't think abomb damaging my n'zoth board is a big deal; I am not obsessed with getting value with n'zoth because how much value summoning cairne/sylvanas/rhonin is already.
The no Tauren and 1 Abomination I can get behind. Tauren is very blah. Also just noticed no AI, which should immediately replace Acolyte. Your best case scenario with Acolyte is to be a more expensive and slower AI.
I messed around with a similar list last month. Main difference is that I ran 2x Doomsayer and 2x Frost Nova. Playing slower Mage builds it feels like it comes down to:
a) Do you find Doomsayer/Frost Nova in time?
b) Does Doomsayer proc?
If one of the answers to the questions is "no" then it's game over. At least that's my experience.
I've also found that Tournament Medic is a really underrated card. I feel that it's the best neutral healing mechanic at the moment (next to Reno of course). Cult Apothecary is too inconsistent and Refreshment Vendor is too low impact. Tournament Medic almost always heals you for at least 4 and forces your opponent to throw a bunch of resources on it virtually healing you for a lot more. And when your opponent doesn't have an answer, he slowly takes over the game. I've found that having him as backup heal is a nice addition.
I also ran Alexstrasza as another way to save me when my Ice Block got popped. Also since he's a dragon which on top of Azure Drake I've found to me enough dragons to justify running Chillmaw

What rank did you reach with the deck?
