Hello! I still can't believe I am playing a hunter deck but I have gotten a pretty decent WR (65%) with this deck after 100+ matches so far. I think there is room for optimization and wanted some feedback from other hunter players!!
The deck is a mix of secret in the early game, big in the late game.
I've been thinking about removing Houndmaster Shaw and maybe the Violet Wurms but I am pretty satisfied with the rest so far. Maybe you can see something I don't.
I tend to have the worst matchup vs. heavy aggro like Even Shaman and Even/Odd Paladin. My tracker actually says that vs. Hunter I am sub 50% WR, but even or above 50% vs all other classes so far.
I would really appreciate your feedback and a like if you think the deck is any good :) I posted a description if you go to the deck itself, too. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out.
Played a similar deck with Dire Frenzy and stitched trackers to get more recruits off, goes incredibly well with animal companion or any other beast you want to yoink out for good beats or defense.
Not big on secret keeper but I understand why you’d want it around, the value is nice but ultimately I wasn’t a fan of relying on any secret synergy cards when my real win push was my beasts
Its a fun deck though, you can get away with a lot of jank plug-ins and still pull off a good win rate

Hey thanks for the reply. I think I like having Secretkeeper to help in the early game, but can understanding just letting turn 1 be a pass if it means you can get big minions recruited. Thing is, I only have Kathrena as the recruit trigger. Dire Frenzy could be really strong on Animal Companion, though, as you said. A tough choice. I could imagine getting rid of Flanking Strike for Dire Frenzy but then if you don't have a beast on board you are stuck.
So maybe...possible change:
2X Flanking Strike --> 2X Dire Frenzy
2X Secretkeeper --> 2X Seeping Oozeling or 2X Play Dead (so long as Kathy survives). ??
One thing that I've seen before (haven't personally tried it since I'm missing a few key cards) but if you took out the Violet Wurms and Savannah Highmanes, you could include the Seeping Oozelings for another recruiting card and add Charged Devilsaurs and Witchwood Grizzly to be recruited instead. I think the deck I saw also included a Silver Vanguard for consistency in case Kathrena Winterwisp was drawn. You'd probably want to take out the Tracking so you don't get rid of cards you are trying to recruit in an effort to find the recruiting cards.
I am curious though about the Rat Trap and how important that is to the deck, especially since you said that the deck does worse against aggro. Does it make a big difference against control decks that it's worth including, or is it just a nice surprise factor? Also regarding aggro decks, I like Candleshot against them since it can make the difference against 3 health minions after Explosive Trap. It might be worth looking into.

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. Yes, I am definitely familiar with the Recruit Hunter deck with those cards you mentioned, but I think I prefer this style over the pure recruit. I think the charged devilsaur is a little overrated and I get a lot of value off of Highmane and the Wurm, but if someone was so inclined you could definitely rework that portion of the deck to be more recruit-based than mine, where Kathrena is the only source of recruiting the big beasts.
On the Rat Trap- No, it is definitely not essential. I think the difference can be game winning in some cases as you typically get to push an extra 6 damage to face. The surprise factor is also real, but anyone with a deck tracker can deduce that it is Rat Trap after attacking face, a minion, and playing a minion with no effect. But, as I mention in the guide, this means they are limited to 2 cards per turn, which can help slow them down if they really don't want to trigger it without an immediate answer. You could just as easily swap it out for a second Freezing Trap or another secret of your choice.
Yeah it does suck when those 3 health minions trigger the trap (like after Sunkeeper Tarim or vs. a mirror Spellstone), and candleshot could help clear one without taking extra damage. But you'd have to decide what to give up. I think giving up a secret is not a good idea- 6 seems to be the right number. You could take out the Secretkeeper for it, to truly mask yourself as Spell hunter. I think that might be the best option- the question is what do you get more use out of, and I tend to like having the 1-drop, but can understand the use of maybe 1X Candleshot and 1X Witchwood Grizzly to help slow the enemy more/prepare them for the Explosive Trap or Rexxar. I will try it out sometime!
Edit: I just got beat by my own deck yesterday! This deck is strong even when you know what it contains!

I've been thinking about using the following cards in some way but unsure how to or if they are better than what I have right now: Play Dead, Seeping Oozeling, Charged Devilsaur, Spellbreaker, Gluttonous Ooze, Witchwood Grizzly.
