FINALLY i returned to hearthstone and after a month desided to update this "Demonhandlock" which i created a year ago, lul.
Short foreword
Haven't played hs for a year, because of school, but finally, have much time for this game and already hit legend 3 times with 3 accounts in November. Maybe will try myself in cybersport (:
So, english is not my main, don't blame me for grammar or something like that, please <3
As a usual i did last year, this time it's going to be a very detailed guide: card discussion, mulligans, matchups, winrates.
Also if you read this, probably i'm already streaming (first time) and hitting legend with this deck on other accounts to show you how to play this most effectively, so check it out! https://www.twitch.tv/pvahs
Another short foreword about the deck.
Played ~350 games using this deck, currently having a very high winrate. Last time hitted legend with 79% winrate, some screenshots below this spoiler. Deck seems one of the strongest for ladder and maybe i'll try to reach top200 with it in the end of month. Renolock is not really easy but i'll try to explain you some key things and soon will post some videos (after creating YT channel)) )
+1 win against renopriest(idk, but track-o-bot lagged and didn't write that) Hitted that 12/17, but haven't played ladder much. On the first day of msog hitted 5 rank with aggrocanser/renolock, then haven't played ladder for 2 weeks. so from rank 5-> legend took me ~4 days, i didn't count, cause didn't think that i'm gonna write here something again.
THE GUIDE
Card discussion
I will only give you quick explain for cards, which not all renolocks use.
Dirty Rat
You don't see this card in my deck, but i tried it a lot. The key thing here is your meta. If you face aggro shamans A LOT (you know, shamanstone still exists, but now there are too many aggro shamans with Flamewreathed Faceless and Aya Blackpaw, and it's to risky to play this card against them on turn 2->5, because you have not any good answer for that (usually you haven't). Dirty Rat is extremely good against control decks, because you can ruin so many good combos: Kazakus, Brann Bronzebeard, Leeroy Jenkins, Gadgetzan Auctioneer and others, BUT i don't use it, due to aggro shamans/dragon warriors meta. If you meet mostly control decks, i highly recommend you to use it and card substitutions for the deck will write down, so you need to scroll the main guide.
Blastcrystal Potion
Blastcrystal Potion is extremely good against big minions in early game like Flamewreather Faceless, Mountain Giant, Twilight Drake and a very good cheap removal in lategame. It destroys one of your mana crystal but that doesn't matter much.
Abyssal Enforcer
Perfect new card for renolock which can even synergy with your Sylvanas Windrunner in different ways. It allows you to board clear against "spam minions decks" like Jade decks, aggro and tempo decks.
Lord Jaraxxus
To be onest, this is my favorite card in a game since i tried handlock decks 2 years ago. Right know, the most part of renolock decks use Ragnaros the Firelord instead Lord Jaraxxus, but i think for ladder it's still more valuable, also it's one of your win condition against all control decks. Even against aggro after you played Reno Jackson sometimes you have to play Lord Jaraxxus to stay alive. In mirror match i think Jaraxxus > Rag, but i'll talk much more, how to play mirror, because it's the most interesting matchup.
Sylvanas Windrunner
Recently i found this card a bit weak in current meta, because sometimes it's seems very slow, and maybe i'll replace it with something. But still, one of the strongest legendary in a game and combo with Shadowflame can rekt your opponent. Also this card has a good synergy with Abyssal Enforcer, Blastcrystal Potion, you know.
Leeroy Jenkins
Leeroy Jenkins + Power Overwhelming + Faceless Manipulator = 20 damage
Leeroy Jenkins + Power Overwhelming + Faceless Manipulator + another po or Soulfire from Dark Peddler = 24/28 damage
Standard combos -> one of your win condition
I was not trying to be rude or showboat if that's what you think, I was just surprised by the fact that he has been struggling vs priests even tho it's usually one of the easier matchups for handlock. If I offended anyone I'm sorry.
do you get a cookie for rank 5?
You get an epic golden card = 400 dust.
Would Siphon soul or another Hellfire fit anywhere into the deck just to deal with aggro a bit more consistently?
Siphon soul is too slow in this meta imo, and you can add second Hellfire in place of second owl.
Siphon Soul is still good in this meta its an immediate out to Dr.6, Dr.7, Malygos and Ysera and 3 of those cards with the exception of Dr.7 can win the game solo.
Can someone tell me how to beat mage? Iv'e played 12 games and all 6 of my losses are from mage.
IS malganis worth crafting?
just crafted him. def one of the good ones. good in many kinds of warlock decks.
craft wilfred fizzleBANG
Great deck but I lost a game to a rng sacrificial pact. Which Insta killed me after I used lord jaraxxus. Which makes it 6-1 so far :)
I swapped - Sludge Belcher for +1 Loatheb. I found that Belcher was redundant on account of having x2 sunfury + x2 argus. Typically when I'm playing against face decks, I usually have the board set up to drop one of the two. Loatheb increases winrate against combo druids and most mages, as well as providing a 5/5 body even against non-spell heavy classes.
From rank 10 to rank 7 so far with this deck and the one change I made.
Replacement for mal'ganis?
Hey, I've been matched against control warriors very often, and most of the time it's gotten to the point where he has a ton of armour and there are maybe 10 cards left in his deck and only 5 left in mine. I am very close to being at full health due to the fact that he usually never gets any minions to hit me. Do I keep using my hero power, at the risk that I reach fatigue much earlier than he does? Or do I refrain from using it so that I draw into fatigue?
At first I was skeptical of this deck, as I am not typically a fan of demon based handlock style decks.
However, this deck is amazing. I can't say I'll continue to play it, as I prefer the traditional Handlock, but I went 6-0 with this deck last night.
I really like that this deck utilizes BGH, and I actually chose to swap in Kezan Mystic in lieu of the doomguard. The reason I did this was because this deck seems like it's becoming increasingly more popular, so I think that people expect to see the doomguard now. Kezan Mystic is amazing in the current meta with Secret paladins running amok.
I find that more often than not, the void callers put Jaraxxus into play, so he is mainly used as a massive taunt. I typically use that taunt to set up for lethal.
Lastly, as much as I love Dr. Boom (Hearthstone's very own Michael Jordan), I substituted Ragnaros in it's place to essentially gain an "execute".
Kezan Mystic is pretty bad in the meta, because it does nothing against secret pally. Its a decent tech card against hunter and amazing against freeze mage, but thats it. And it doesn't replace Doomguard in any way.
Ragnaros is horrible in the current meta as well and doesn't replace Dr. Boom at all. Its not even a reliable finisher.
Ever try squeezing Sylvanas in there in slower metas? Gods do I love using Shadowflame on Sylvanas late game to clear the board + steal some important fat minion.
I can see why this deck is so consistent - it is strong and agile to the point of being almost boring / annoyingly good as a concept, if that makes any sense. I frequently like to play similar but even greedier locks — which means worse win rates but more entertaining to me personally. ;)
My guess is you would swap out belcher for sylvanas. Take this with a grain of salt though since I have made critical mistakes in over half my loses.
Upon seeing this deck, I finally decided to craft the few cards I needed for it. I really like it so far. My games have gone 16-6(73%) -around ranks 8 to13- so far and I've played far from perfect as I'm still learning the deck and ladder in general. It's fun enough to where I may actually try to get a high rank for once instead of playing mainly arena. Great deck and guide thanks!
what about -Ironbeak Owl and + Acidi Swamp Ooze
