Hey, I want to show you my favorite deck of this expansion so far. It might be one of the Decks in the current meta but I am having the most fun with this out of all I have played so far. Maybe once the combo decks are nerved this deck will be more vialable. As you can see below there is a lot to say when it comes to this deck as this is one of most unique decks I have ever played. If you are looking for a new way to play this stupid game then please give it a try and also please give me some feedback as I have already put a lot of effort into this deck.
First of all the Quest: Seek Guidance is a bad concept for a quest as you basicly have to draw perfectly until turn 10 in order to win. For any other deck with this luck this would mean an instant win. But who cares about winning when you can have fun instead (currently 8-25).
To have a high chance of drawing the perfect card every turn you would probably want 5 or 6 cards that cost 2 mana, 5 cards that cost 3 mana, a bunch of 4 mana cards (of which many are for healing or for removal in the late game since you never draw perfectly and you might need a swing turn to stabilize), 3 cards each for 5 and 6 mana, and 2 for each 7 and and 8 mana.
About some coices why I added some cards and why not:
In the perfect scenario once you reached 9 mana you can play your Xyrella, the Sanctified as well as Thrive in the Shadows to draw your Purified Shard in the same turn. Alternatively the Shard can also be drawn with G'huun the Blood God if you are lucky or with Primordial Protector.
Generally speaking you do not want to inlude cards that generate other cards e.g. Entrapped Sorceress or Renew as hand space will be a problem whe you want to play exactly 1 card per turn but add more and more to it. Card draw is okay as you draw your wanted cards more likely but too much card draw can cause you to overdraw which can be devestating. That is why there is only a little card draw in the beginning to get a higher chance to play on curve.
With this slow deck disrubting your opponents game plan is really usefull. Cult Neophyte for instant payoff or Far Watch Post and Ogremancer that forces the opponent to spend ressources to remove them. I wish to include more of those but I do not know which ones. Al'ar and Headmaster Kel'Thuzad would be nice but unfortunatly i do not have them. I am open for sugestions.
I think this should be obvious but this deck really does not need any 0 or 1 mana cost cards as well as anything above 8 mana. I have tried out Sphere of Sapience which seemed most promising but I dislike to see me drawing it instead of a card I actually need.
Flightmaster Dungar and Archdruid Naralex are actual bros. Both are really nice to have on turn 3 as Dungar provides your hero basicly immunity for the next 3 turns as well as a potentioal combo with Xyrella. Alternatively if the opponent plays a slower deck where you expect no damgage tocome in soon the option for a 2/2 Adventurer ist also fine. Naralex on the other hand might not always give you usefull cards but oh boy he can give you the Hearthstone experience. No 2 drop? Dont worry he will give you Laughing Sister(costs 2 mana now ). No 4 drop? He got you covered with Emerald Drake. Besides those 2 the other options are not too bad either although the do not help you complete your quest.
Mulligan:
Besides the Quest always keep only a single 2 mana cost cards and sometimes even put the 3 cost cards away if you second. I'd put Thrive in the Shadows back if I already have a 2 drop since it has most use if used right after playing Xyrella, the Sanctified to draw the Purified Shard. Unless the opponent is playing aggro like Hunter I'd consider to mulligan Death's Head Cultist.
Highest priority to keep is Archdruid Naralex followed by Flightmaster Dungar for your 3 mana card and Loot Hoarder followed by Far Watch Post for your 2 cost card.
I feel like I should also mention that your Purified Shard is revealed to your opponent once you draw it resulting in an instant concede without being able to play your hard earned reward :)
Update: [currently 8-25, how do you guys win with this? o_O]
I read your comments and I have to agree to your suggestions. Mutanus the Devourer over Elekk Mount because you often lack a minion to play it on happened to me as well. Now that that is gone Robes of Protection might become an considerable option to test out.
Additionally I must also agree on that casting Void Shard on your oponents face and Devout Dungeneer in a deck with mostly shadow spells do not not feel so good. I will try out Shard of the Naaru instead. I believe the argument that it could be good in the current meta with it silence + tradable effect.
Personally I like Lady Prestor in this deck. In my opinion she fits perfectly into this deck. She does not change the cost of cards but adds rng with a chance of highrolling. In other words fun :D But unfortunatly she is too slow and games come to an end to quicky.
I've tried several priest quest decks, but none as balanced and performant as this one.
Well done!
I've crafted Mindrender Illucia to test it out and realized it was a big mistake.
There's no scenario in which this is a good card for the deck:
1. If you play it on turn 3 (since you need a 3-drop), you get no value and the opponent could punish you by stealing your 4 or 5 drop.
2. If you play it on any turn 4-8, you get minimum value and lose tempo for your other cards that need to be played in order.
3. If you play it turn 9 or 10, you should be finding your Purified Shard instead and not give a chance for an opponent to get it.
4. You won't get a chance to steal any other quest reward minion, as every other class will complete the quest and play their big minion in the same turn.
I'm replacing her with either Robes of Protection or Death's Head Cultist depending on if I run into more spell-oriented opponents or minion-oriented opponents.
I tried out Mindrender Illucia too, although I once stole my opnents Arcanist Dawngrasp I still lost my game. That made me think that even that highroll is not worth playing that card.
Besides that you are more active in the comments than me who made this deck. So..thanks for answering in my stead, I guess.
Interesting. I would never use her on turn 3, but I've won the game 2/3 times that i've used her. It's def not a card you want to mulligan for, i simply use it as a failsafe.
The one key time I succeeded with Mindrender Illucia is playing her turn 6 on a mage that managed to unlock their quest minion, preventing them from playing, and me dropping Mutanus the Devourer when my deck came back to me on turn 7...
That mage STILL killed me with Ignite :(
This Deck is an 100% instaloose vs Paladin, wich is the strongest Deck right now
I don't have G'huun the Blood God What would you replace it with?
Or is it essential for this deck to work?
On rare (and super lucky occasions) it can help you by drawing the Purified Shard and allowing you to play it the same turn, provided you have at least 11 health left.
So I'd say you're fine without it and can easily replace it with any other nice 8-cost. I've put some in order of quality how I see for this deck:
1. Mo'arg Forgefiend
2. Natalie Seline
3. Plagued Protodrake
4. Primordial Protector
Only time it's ever come in handy for me is when i haven't played a 7 cost yet and I happen to draw a 7 that i can play on the same turn using my hp. Other than that, the suggestions Keetopsina made are legit. Mo'arg Forgefiend is a super safe pick.
Update: Lady Prestor has been terrible for me out of the last 3 matches. It's always been the 6 card i draw and i do fine until i start drawing dragons that have no synergy with my deck. Gonna be taking that out for sure. Gonna see how Claw Machine works out.
also.. sorry I'm commenting so much. lol It's the first Priest deck from this site I've actually had fun with. lol
Your comments and enthusiasm to make this deck work are great! :)
We're all aware that this deck is far from being super strong, but it's worth it for the rare occasions when we play the Purified Shard against an opponent with full health and a big board. :)
Claw Machine sounds like an interesting option as it will remove a threat from the board and potentially draw you one of the cards (7, 8 or even 5) to progress the quest.
The deck is fun but I have the biggest problem with the 7-cost card.
There is almost never a target for the Elekk Mount. I'll try replacing it with Mutanus the Devourer.
so do i
hmm.. i didnt think about that! I havent had any issues with not being able to play Elekk Mount but I do think Mutanus the Devourer may be a better fit just for the chance it could get rid of other quest minions. So on top of having Mindrender Illucia that would make 2 chances of royally messing up the other quest players. mwuahaha!
I'm 8-5 with this deck so far.. but it's still fun. Much better than rogue and warlocks not using any skill whatsoever and just draining their deck to win.
Hi there. thanx for good deck. any replace for The Nameless One ?
i play without it - added Natalie Seline (8 mana)
Royal Librarian is a nice option as it has almost the same effect as The Nameless One with the addition of being tradeable.
Double post. Sorry.
Get steamrolled vs aggro, what else is new?
I think this is the best priest deck I have tried, not because of the win rate, it's really fun to play. It makes me remember the first time I have played Hearthstone, I chose Priest and I love it up to now, the joy when trying something new is wonderful. By the way, I won a winning streak with this deck, only lost when I met Mage with two 8-cost cards in my hand in turn 1 :) Thanks for your deck, I hope to see some updated version, something really surprising and cool, of course, fun to play :) :) :) I found Shard of the Naaru and some tradeable cards really useful in this deck
